2024-10-20 13:35:13 +0000 UTCPosting from the uncut as I think they deserve more people knowing about them. Both nurses (Renée Lemaire and Auguste Chiwy) were from Bastogne. They were home for Christmas. Renee on the night the church was destroyed pulled 7 men out of the burning church and was killed when she went in for an 8th. Auguste survived and lived until 2015. They, both, were called the Angels of Bastogne. The town has honored them with a monument. Also, the paratroopers returned Renee's body to her parents wrapped in a parachute.
