we are early but want to be organised ahead of time for what series will replace The Haunting of Hill House so here is our poll for our next short form series!
REMINDER - Our short series poll is for 1 season series (with west world being the exception)
based on community feedback and our own preference, Band of Brothers will be replaced by The Pacific as we are very immersed in that world right now and want to keep it going

2024-09-27 01:35:46 +0000 UTCJulien: I party agree. With a few exceptions, I don't think the show's shortcomings have much to do with departure from the lore. There are people who know the lore as well as anyone who find things to appreciate in the show--even some who outright love it. I've heard lots of criticisms of lore "changes" that aren't really changes at all, coming from people who don't know the lore anywhere near as well as they think they do (not putting you in that category). I think it all comes down to execution, and the weakness is pretty much entirely in the writing. Still, it's not all bad, even in season 1. And most people who aren't invested in hating the show are seeing considerable improvement in season 2. Just waiting on one more miserable mystery box to be resolved--although it seems increasingly likely the answer is going to be the worst one possible, at least we'll be able to move on from the pointlessly dragged-out question. As far as Spartan and Pudgey, I do think they'll be able to watch from an impartial perspective, and it would be an opportunity to learn more about the lore through both the show and community corrections. My inkling that they'll be able to enjoy it (and I'm trying to move on from judging people for enjoying things more than I do) comes partly from the way they embraced The Hobbit movies. Like, they thought it was equally as good as PJ's Lord of the Rings. Personally, I think the book departures in The Hobbit (the dialogue, the action, the comedy, the romance) are at least as bad as the weakest parts of Rings of Power, and often less Tolkienian.

2024-09-25 17:20:26 +0000 UTCI wonder what people who don't know the lore feel about it. As a long time Tolkien fan, the butchery of the story is genuinely painful to witness. I watched half the first season and simply read summaries of the read. A completely travesty of my beloved Middle Earth. But I'm certain that even if I weren't beholden to this world, the JJ Abrams "mystery box" storytelling style would have irritated me to no end. It would seem the entirety of the first season consistent in making you wonder "who is this person? Is this who I think it is? What are these people doing? What does this thing?" I have no idea why they think this is an entertaining way to tell a story

For what ive seen it is pulling decent views on other channels, on theirs well we cant know for sure (tho at least I'll be willing to bet it would do better than peaky blinders lol). Maybe it would have been a good idea to have it replace one of the 2 small shows since its a known brand and its being released weekly which i have heard they prefered that instead of seasons being dropped all at once. But i guess there was no way of knowing if it would be any good, tho i just watched the first one and its looking pretty good, also Colin Farrell absolutely kills every single role he plays so im hopefull the series is gonna turn out great. It would be nice to hear the S&P perspective on the matter.

2024-09-24 06:08:32 +0000 UTCWell, I don't know if their minds have changed now, but they said they had no plans on watching it back when Season 1 came out and seems like a fairly firm stance ** at the time**. Maybe thats changed, no clue. Theres some people I know (that are not ragetubers) that have been watching Season 2 that have said its only slightly improved, or that they liked it more starting out, but have been kinda down on it again as its progressed, so I am not sure what to think. Some of the lore changes in season 1, some of the acting (though some of it was excellent) and some of the writing, was rather frustrating/irritating for me. I think I'll see what people think once the season is done and then maybe give it another chance, because the episode quality was kind of all over the place (imho) in season 1 so I wanna make sure I know what I am getting into because I spend those hours. I looked on IMDB and the highest rated episode for the season so far is a 7.4 which, given the budget and everything else, doesn't inspire much confidence for me, but I also try not to judge things I haven't seen myself.

Still has its fair share of issues, but I’m actually looking forward to each new episode. But aside from what I think, I just think S&P would enjoy it—especially by the time things get rolling in season 2. And the longer they go without watching, the more basic spoilers become unavoidable.

2024-09-24 04:13:05 +0000 UTCI don't speak for them so take what I say with grain of salt, but I'm not sure they have time to do it right now between main show slot, two limited series slots at 1 per week, and keeping their movie schedule going. It'll be awhile before another limited series slot opens up since its 1 per week. They do make room for now airing shows on occasion but it has to be a mix of their own personal interest+assumed demand and views being sufficient to warrant watching something while its airing as opposed to later on. At least if its the first season of something and not a continuation of their prior reactions.
