We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

I don't reckon Spartan and Pudgey really care about the easter eggs, they'll spot some here and there. They're 100% always focused on the story for every show they watch lol

big harsher

I've seen reactors completely ignore what they are watching because they are chasing after easter eggs, because someone told them about the easter eggs. Suddenly the show is all about the damn easter eggs. It made for a less enjoyable experience for me, watching the reaction, and I believe they would have had a better experience watching the show had they not known this info in advance. There was so much that they missed, as they searched for easter eggs.

I LOVE Mike Flanagan’s work and I have never considered myself a fan of “horror”. His stories are so incredible, and so well written. Hill House is categorized as horror, but it’s really a tragically beautiful story of a family, a fantastic mystery, and the “horror” is more of a framing device for the story Mike is telling. It definitely has a couple of scary moments, but it’s always in service to the story and never gratuitous. I HIGHLY recommend Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, as well. Bly is a beautiful, gothic love story, and Midnight Mass (my personal fave) is a stunning story that personally healed some of the religious trauma I’d been carrying around for years (that’s not an exaggeration). I’m really excited that you seemed to enjoy this episode because it’s easily the slowest of the show. This and episode 2 are essential to the world building, but episode 3 is where we really start cooking with gas. Love that I’m getting to enjoy this series again through your eyes!! Keep up the great, thoughtful reactions!!

Kimberly Moeller

Welcome back Kate 😃 we look forward to unravelling this mystery

CpaSpartan Pudgey

I’d like to second that you guys should watch the other Mike Flanagan limited series after this one. All are only one season and none of the plots are related to each other. The only similarity is that Mike likes to use a lot of the same cast members each series, which is no bother to me because they are all such great actors. Release order is: - The Haunting of Hill House - The Haunting of Bly Manor - Midnight Mass - The Fall of the House of Usher Personally, Hill House and Midnight Mass are my two absolute favorites. Amazing TV. Midnight mass specifically hits home with those of us with (toxic) religious upbringings.

Jenna

i understand what you mean, i am huge against spoilers and never want ANYTHING to ever even be leaning towards suggestions and spoilers (for myself or others). however, these hidden ghosts are not spoilers to the plot, in ANY way. they are purely little easter eggs that are fun to see if you can spot them in the background. i would never ever be for spoilers, but this is not one.

Jenna

Unfortunately I haven't been into much of what you've watched since Breaking Bad ended, but I signed up for Patreon again just for this. Totally worth it. Rewatching it, things you're trying to piece together on a first watch hit SO differently when you already understand them. And there's so much foreshadowing and meaningful detail in almost every scene. I think by the end, even Spartan might want to rewatch it some day.

Kate

Yea bro trust me , I’ve tried to watch stuff with a reaction for the first time and I can never get into it as much. Also you can just binge the 10 episodes which are unbelievable then watch it with S&P as they only do one episode a week , A show this great you will want to see by yourself the first time.

JonSnow21

I watched on Netflix Mexico and it was fine.

Dónde está la biblioteca

Please, no spoilers. If the creator wanted viewers to know about this, they would note it in the opening credits. Let S&P have their own experience, just as the creator intended.

Dónde está la biblioteca

I came back just for Hill House. Just wait this show gets so good. I hope you guys decide to watch the Haunting of Bly Manor. Totally different story but most of the same actors. It’s very different but so so good as well.

josh york

I don’t like horror movies or horror shows. So I was skeptical when my wife forced me to watch it 🤣, it ends up being one of my all time favorite shows in the genre. Top tier

Louis Melendez

It finally happened 😱, great reaction! 🏡👻

Luke

The moment I got the notification that you'd watch the show, I upgraded my membership again! I have to see it unedited with you guys. You are already so into it that I expect you to be fully blown away soon! It is such an amazing show. Enjoy! <3

Millennial Designs

Probably a good idea

Paul De'Armond

I LOVE this show! I rewatch it every year around Halloween!

Malorie

Maybe you should watch it by yourself the first time. It’s hard to fully immerse yourself with a reaction and this is a fantastic pilot .

JonSnow21

I was actually going to say that

Rich Plumb

there are a lot of “easter egg” hidden ghosts in this show! just for fun haha. you can find youtube videos about it!

Jenna

I've never seen this show, also haven't gravitated much towards the Horror realm before outside of a few classic movies like Event Horizon. But this first episode was quite compelling. Not altogether that scary, more of an atmospheric horror, the vibes were great.

Paul

I didn't see this the first time I watched it, but when Steve and Mrs Dudley are talking about the Hills and the mother walks in, there's a face behind her 😳

big harsher

hey, dont say that word

big harsher

Of course a dany stan doesn’t care much for a masterpiece lol, mid opinion.

JonSnow21

Yes All time , If you know Writing ,Acting, Directing and Cinematography, then yes it arguably is . The story is imo arguably the greatest.

JonSnow21

Maybe the greatest written season ever imo.

JonSnow21

Amazing show!!! I wish we could get 2 episodes a week for this masterpiece of television lol but from your guy’s opinions on horror in the intro , I’d say y’all haven’t seen much great horrors bc I understand some horrors are bad but some are amazing …I always say hill house is arguably more Drama than horror. It’s just a perfect show, I don’t think I can say that about any show except this one and I do relate to Steve bc I would be him in this situation and not really believe it . Luke and Nell are my favourites with Steve taking 3rd place. All amazing characters.

JonSnow21

I've never heard of this show, let alone seen it. My journey will be a first time experience like yours, but I gotta keep it real..... first episode didn't impress me. Hope it gets better.

Paul De'Armond

Excited to start this show with you guys, ive never seen it before but i have seen a couple of Flanagan's movies and they are pretty solid. You guys should really do a special ocation poll for horror movies during october. For people like you who are not big fans of the genre i would recomend these movies because not only are they scary but they all have very good scripts, good acting and good directing. Hereditary Rosemary's Baby The Exorcist Longlegs The Shining The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Halloween Alien The Witch Midsommar Get Out Suspiria The Thing

Pablo

Imo this is one of the greatest series ever made, really excited for future reactions

Traven Sweetsir

Probably the best horror entry point for horror noobs such as S&P, its so fucking good

Pablo

Calls someone out for being spoilery while dropping a spoiler

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

🤣🤣🤣

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Yeah whoops.... but I do know the name from Hush

CpaSpartan Pudgey

OMG THATS WHERE HE IS FROM!!!!!

CpaSpartan Pudgey

🤣💪🏼♥️

CpaSpartan Pudgey

shouldn't be! it's a netflix exclusive and it's all standardised

CpaSpartan Pudgey

wait! is he dead?

Elvira Heredia

indeed the screen size probably not ideal for atmospheric immersion in horror

SuddenImpulse

I watched on Netflix US version and the sync was fine.

Lyn Hurst

I like it when nobody tells me anything about something I'm going to watch.. And S&P have said the same in other reactions. Plenty of things to let them know about in advance, but what's the point?

Dónde está la biblioteca

just finished the episode, and just the end of it almost brings tears to my eyes out of how giddy i am for you all to watch everything. its so good. so glad yall enjoyed it, it only gets better from here. i havent read the otehr comments so idk if anyone answered, but yes the night that nell died was the same night that all the siblings woke up. this show does switch back and forth between time periods so my biggest tip would just be to try and stay aware for that. :) thanks guys!

Jenna

"I'm gonna prove some people wrong that think your boy Spartan can't handle this stuff" Ohhhh, ummm... okay... blink* blink* Trying so hard to keep my mouth shut.. help!! wish they had a bigger screen to watch this on.. Edit: If I could offer a suggestion, if it's possible to darken your background again like you did with Tropic Thunder would help a lot.. Haunting has a lot of dark scenes which will be easier to view for us Patreons, thanks guys..

PastaDon

It's not even remotely close.. it has absolutely nothing to do with the plot or spoilers it's just hidden Easter eggs

Rich Plumb

No it is not!

Rich Plumb

is this another 0.95 speed thing? the syncronization is all friggin off

Augustine Lee

I watched this show when it was released and loved it, even thought I am not much of watching horror shows I might get through this reactions as second watch fr.

KET

My first time watching. I am someone who shies away from the macabre, horror, disturbing scenes, creepy stuff. I am going to watch it with you guys and not skip ahead. I have been cheating with Peakey, but I love that show so much I couldn't wait. This is interesting. My linear mind was having a bit of trouble following what appears to be no time line lol. It is interesting how each person in the family reacted differently as Pudgey said. Also, I found it strange that Nell could contact them, but she was dead. Dad said it was a trick. I was wondering if she called them and then killed herself, but they saw her as if she was still alive. The Mom taking her own life is sad too. Nell was so traumatized by everything that she had to take her life. Luke is also really lost. Steve used the happenings to become some paranormal type investigator. I am interested how the women whose husband died in the car crash fits in, except for I believe it is because of Steve's work that she called on him to come and investigate. Good first episode - lots of questions, lots of people... I am still trying to figure out who all the women are since there are more of them. I forgot to mention that the Dudley's most likely don't live there because the otherworldly beings come out at night. Not sure why they are needed during the day, I guess to keep the house from turning into more of a nightmare - yikes..

Lyn Hurst

hell yeah. sooo excited for this one. easily a top 3 show of all time for me. thank you for reacting!

Jenna

One thing to think about when watching is yes, it’s a horror series, but it’s also more of a character study and a clinic in acting.

Dustin

True

A.D

I love your tv & movie reactions, I always have. The two of you always manage to find something to make me view things I’ve watched a hundred times through a different lens. That said, your intros make me realize I’d kill for a two hour video of you two just having a conversation about anything. Your rapport always cracks me up 🤣

Hefty517

I think HoHH is a masterpiece

Demo

My favorite story based horror serries of all time. the writing and cinematography is top notch!

MJ Eid

My baby Daario Nahraris. As handsome as ever. I don't really care of this series though.

Daenerys Targaryen

Okay

Neville L

All time? Not even close 😂

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

You're gonna love this show, I know it. I went into it very much like you guys, not a big horror fan at all, kinda skeptical it was gonna be my thing, but it had been recommended to me. Then it ended up being one of the best shows I've ever watched! Can't wait to see your journey with it.

Ailene Evangelista

Been so excited for this! "Decent" doesn't do it justice, this is probably the greatest single season tv series (limited series) of all time, except for maybe Arcane. The atmosphere of this show is horror, but the true essence of HoHH is a really beautiful story about family, trauma, and grief. The first half of the season is excellent, and the second half contains multiple masterpiece episodes--I think you'll enjoy it a lot! prepare to cry, this one goes right for the heartstrings! Edit: keep in mind that this story is not told chronologically; each scene is a piece of the larger puzzle of Hill House, and it all comes together so well. Close attention is very rewarded!

Neville L

Excited for this journey.

Kevin David

Love the acting in that movie, but man, it’s so disturbing. 😱

Sadie

make sure you are looking in the background of the house scenes and keep an eye on the statues.

Rich Plumb

Yeah, unless they mentioned it in post discussion, I don’t think they would recognise Daario actor with their face blindness lmao

Seán

Incredible reaction

Seán

Let's go! Also Pudgey, you might have confused the name Mike Flanagan with Vince Gilligan....

Oslo

DAARIO NAHARIS

Dani

Whooooo

ShanB

YESSSSSSS

Ailene Evangelista

LFG! It's time! Been looking forward to this for soooooo long haha

Reaction Junkie

i think "Hereditary" would be a great horror for you to watch. You really should have a horror movie poll for Halloween, at least :-)

Nick Ireland

Fucking let’s gooo!

Elvira Heredia

Yess can’t wait❤️

Abbie

just rewatched it as it was far away in my memory and I remembered it as just good. my lord it’s fucking unreal. one of the greatest seasons i’ve seen. one hell of a journey ahead.

Owen Hargrave

LETS GOOOOO

SuddenImpulse

Lets goooo! Such an incredible STORY! The family drama aspect is definitely what will hook you, but you're correct the thriller elements are there, it really is a fantastic one season show.. (also adult Steve is Daario from Game of Thrones haha). Glad you enjoyed the first episode, it definitely throws a lot out there at once to set a vibe, but you kept up well and it only gets better!
