True Detective 1x6 Reaction

Rust is so cold with that women during the interrogation because she's willingly killing her children instead of using contraception. As a man who lost his daughter to a tragic accident that turned his world upside-down he can let that abide. Also he's not wrong unaliving herself would be easier than what she would face in prison.

Paul Walker

Also choosing Rust instead of some random person would make damn sure Marty didn't forgive her.

Yeah, Maggie did a shit thing, but I think it's very understandable. I often see her catching a lot of blame but I mean... Rust knew they were married. They all suck in this situation(obviously Marty is the worst) but at least she's doing something destructive in order to change her life and the life of her kids for the better, where as the other two are just destructive for ennui.

The tail light hadn’t been fixed since Marty was thrown into it. A lot of time had passed!

If his daughter is under the age of consent then it’s technically SA. Its definitely implied that whatever they were up to was consensual but obviously going by the laws they took advance of an underage girl who couldn’t give consent. But yeah I agree with you Spartan there’s different laws and ways of life everywhere all over the world. Here in the uk age of consent is 16 but you arent classed as an adult until you turn 18. I lost my V card at 17 with my partner who was 19 and it was legal and not frowned upon but if we were in America that would have been illegal.

Maggie was wrong for using Rust, but I don’t think you all fully understand why she did it. It wasn’t just to get back at Marty. Remember, “time is a flat circle.” She didn’t want to keep going around in circles with Marty. He cheats, she finds out, he apologizes, she eventually forgives him. She did what she did so HE would be the one to leave. She knew he’d never be able to see her the same and thus she wouldn’t have to worry about him trying to come back due to his twisted moral compass. It was terrible but it got the job done. And Rust was just collateral damage.

You guys are giving Marty way too much credit...he pukes after beating up the dudes because he can't stop thinking about them boning his daughter. Because he's a womanizer and a misogynist, so the WORST THING that could happen to his daughter is for someone to do to her what he does to other women. They were defiling HIS DAUGHTER'S virtue, after all (in his mind). He absolutely was not throwing up because he "felt bad about beating them up," as you seemed to believe.

Spartan: I think the distinction you were making was between what is legal vs what is moral. The teenagers did something technically illegal and, although it’s implied that it was consensual and they are close in age, the boys were older and (even if she was willing) they shouldn’t have taken advantage. But Marty repeatedly behaves immorally, choosing to break his marriage vows, sleeping with inappropriately young women (enabling their own unhealthy issues), lying to his wife and children, etc. On top of it, he’s a giant hypocrite who judges others harshly but gives himself a pass. (He sexistly calls his daughter a ‘whore’ but doesn’t see himself as one, or his partners… even though he’s likely slept with many women casually over the years.) I agree with you: Marty’s transgressions are way worse from a moral standpoint. Also, his older daughter’s acting out looks like classic ‘daddy issues’… messed up relationship / absentee father and some kids go looking for attention and validation elsewhere via promiscuous behaviour. Not blaming her choices entirely on her dad but that is definitely not a happy home under the surface and the kids feel that, for sure. Honestly, I think some of his anger was self-loathing and guilt, because deep down he knows his behaviour has made a mess of his family. (Not saying his wife is without blame for her own part.)

I love that you’re getting the core brilliance of this show really is the characters of Rust and Marty. Written so well and the acting is next level. The year that this show was out, these two lost out in Emmy award for best male actor to our boy Walter White (Bryan Cranston).

Also, I think it's pretty clear Marty doesn't do the laundry, so him washing his clothes as soon as he gets home is weird. It's ironic considering he's a detective, but doesn't even consider how bizarre that would look...

Remember Rust made a comment about him saying it's weird the things Martin gets squeamish/upset about? Spartan is right. He gets squeamish about beating up the boys, but he's so much worst. Rust also asks Martin if was putting a downpayment on the girl and he meets her years later and sleeps with her. I think it's also important to note that Rust was drunk when she showed up and took advantage of him.
