The kiss was always in the script. Emma's instinct as Rhaenyra to embrace Mysaria was not. That was what was improvised.

2024-08-08 01:38:05 +0000 UTCI’m really glad you guys liked this episode. I was worried that Spartan would be so disappointed as a lot of us were to an extent. I think they’ve done their best but its hard to shake audience expectations at the same time. I think in this day an age as an audience we’ve already experienced Game of Thrones and what they’re capable of doing so its hard not to expect the same from house of the dragon.

2024-08-07 05:38:12 +0000 UTCNot that this is the most important part of the post episode recap but it is worth noting the kiss between Rhaenera and the Mysaria was improvised by Emma D'Arcy it was not written in the script. In fact they weren't sure if would be left in. The showrunners and writers have trusted Emma's instincts and suggests which have led to some of the best Rhaenera moments so the kiss was left. However since it wasn't scripted there was no follow up that furthered that moment. I would assume it will prove to be a one & done moment given the intensity, stakes and the fact Nettles does not seem to be part of this version of the story going forward in season 3.
