Shutter Island [2010] Movie Reaction

😂

Paul De'Armond

when pudgey said the word theory in the discussion my siri turned on twice lol

Denisa Bémová

That's what they do, but not gonna lie, it is getting old for me, especially the extra effort to try to understand what the twist is going to be before it happens. For me it undermines the final reaction. This reaction was alright, but I recall being bummed out seeing Pudgey laughing through the emotional ending of Arrival because she guess the husband thing 5 minutes prior. That's their style, no reason for them to change, but I suspended my membership for now, and I'll come back later. After Peaky Blinders most likely ;)

Chris C

It does get frustrating but they both do it. I have to skip the discussion sometimes lately lol

Gummybear

pudgey would be hilarious to see watching knives out

Joe Mcauley

😲🫣🤐😅

Mila C

Easy champ, it’s not that serious lmao

Lemuel Daher

First time I watched this movie, I was epically stoned.. talk about paranoia 😅

Ismail Chettfour

No, I like them both. They are great! Keep going!

K

Loved watching this film fry your brains 😂 If you want more from the same director, i'd recommend The Departed and Goodfellas. While not even close to as trippy as this one, i think they're the best Scorsese has to offer.

J G

Anyone else getting sick of Pudgey completely missing the points at the end😂. She is convinced she is the smartest in the room but its mainly because she just says everything that could possibly happen. I like her and i think shes hilarious but please god just stop overthinking everything its getting frustrating when Spartans right and you shoot him down with a completely different idea.

Finn

right .. but you going with the theory of what most people go with. that's the natural conclusion i suppose. but i am doubting this conclusion, so i know perfectly well this theory you talk about, but i am saying i believe the opposite 😄 💗

I suggest watching a breakdown of this movie. The visual hints & symbolisms in this movie are insane. Best movie to have a rewatch of.

Kevin Vercauteren

Well, "end his life" isn't necessarily true, but I know what you're saying. I think it's important to understand that he himself feels guilty of his children's deaths, not just his wife's. It's highly likely that the guilt, the shouldering of that burden, shaped him into a violent and terrible man who inevitably lost his sense of reality. From our perspective the entire movie, we don't see enough of this side of him. We're eventually told that the events of this entire movie are the beginnings of a breakthrough or an attempt at one. I also think another crucial piece of information, is that he's been at this facility for 2 years. Meaning that the "gaslighting" you mention, isn't technically gaslighting, because he actually DID bring those things up first, he can't remember it. Everything the doctor mentions about all of Andrew's delusions, are a reference to the past, where Andrew's delusions began. The doctors and all of the staff only went along with said things, because they thought by feeding into those made up elements of who he is, they could role-play their way into snapping him out of it. At the very end, he seemingly played it off that he was regressing back, but in reality he likely just didn't want to live this way anymore. Deeming the lobotomy as his only way out of his heartbreaking clarity.

For me it’s not a doubt he is a patient. It’s more of which of his past is real. They describe him as this truly evil man who is so insane they need so many guards and policemen “just in case”. They never seen anyone like him….. yet. How does that make sense if his actual legit past is simply that he k!lled his wife out of grief bc the children was murdered. He’s not this mastermind he is just someone with a tragic past. Which he has repressed. And yet they act like if this brutal man doesn’t finally realize his true self then there is no other option but to end his life. Like what? Also one more thing that makes ZERO sense to me. If they are trying to break him, by realizing his true self, why do they keep gaslighting him? Have you ever been gaslit into sanity? No. Gaslighting just makes you more insane. They kept gaslighting him about the weather. They are the ones who keep mentioning a storm throughout the movie, yet by the end they try to convince him he was the one who started all this weather talk. And I don’t remember right now, but I know that they keep gaslighting him about so many things. To me it is not so obvious b if the asylum is a good place or not. I think they absolutely do experiment on people there. I believe that part was true. Why are they so set on him getting a lobotomy after he realized what they are truly doing in that place ? I think the brilliance of this movie is it gaslights it audience. You won’t truly know what is the real truth. And in the end people say it’s a twist ending bc he pretends to be insane again, so therefor they take it as he just wanted to d!e because he still couldn’t live with what he had done. I think he chose to d!e because he knew they would never let him leave. He had to be who they said he was or else. I think he was a patient. But maybe not for the reason we are told.

Sabina

If you want trippy, Christopher Nolan - Memento.

JP

Definitely a must to rewatch after knowing the ending, one small part I always like is when they arrived at the island and the officers/guards asked them to give in their guns and chuck (Dr Sheehan) didnt know how to take it out of his holster properly because hes never used one before.

Ibrahim Emin

Even post discussion we've been realising more and more!

CpaSpartan Pudgey
