Shōgun Episode 10 Reaction

uhh not quite. I would read an official summary or read the book yourself as its complicated and people get a lot of info wrong in discussing it. I agree though that the callback lines are great.

I'm glad I've had a chance to read such informative comments from people who have read the book and know the true history. Fuji apparently didn't become a Nun, but married John and they had children from what I've ascertained. Fuji's line, "Let your hands be the last to touch her" calling back to Mariko saying those same words to the men who were trying to take Fuji's baby. Streams of tears! 😭

He didn't plan for years, but he did have multiple plans and schemes. Him and these events are loosely based on a real person and events.

I struggled with the show early on it got better for me overtime, but the ending didn't really satisfy me. It is not a bad ending, just feels weird. One thing that I don't like that much with this story is that Toronaga seemingly planned all that for years, sounds too good to be true

John Blackthorne never returned to England. The scenes of him as an old men were a dream that he let go of when he dropped Mariko’s cross in the lake. Initially I had a similar reaction to the finale as Spartan. I wasn’t sure what to think of it and felt it left a void. I was confused why there was no battle. But over time Ive come to the conclusion that it was the right ending. Curious if you will too. Also, for a thought. During the brothel scene the courtesan makes a point to teach the apprentice about emptiness. When she says “presence is most felt in someone’s absence”. I think a lot of the emptiness of the final episode is due to Mariko’s absence being felt from her death and why they made a point to mention it in the brothel scene
