MOD MESSAGE -IMPORTANT REGARDING SYNCING ISSUES ***

if you are watching the US version for example, it might not sync up perfectly as Binge AUS is a slightly different frame rate (The UK and EU versions usually sync up). There IS a way to fix this. Please follow these steps.

Option A: EASY WAY (recommended)

downloaded the "Youtube Custom Speed" extension. A version of this should be available on both Chrome and Firefox browsers. Once you download it, just go to extension settings and add a custom speed option, so you can get 0.959 which is the match

(Once you install the extension there should be an icon on your toolbar next to any other extensions you have for it. Click the icon. It will bring up a menu with the default speeds and a box where you can enter in your own custom speed. Type 0.959 in the box and confirm. Then you need to refresh the page the video is on. Then you go to the bottom bar of the youtube video, and the new 0.959 speed should be listed along with all the others. Then you just need to click that and you are set!)

Google Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/youtube-custom-speed/kmfcinojnfabkpndlgomnfjllgeppegb

Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-custom-speed/

Option B: MANUAL WAY

CLICK THIS LINK if you want a better formatted guide with images included:

 https://www.labnol.org/youtube-custom-speed-201125

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------

 1. Open the video fully so that it opens up on Youtube itself instead of playing it through patreon. Press F12 to open up a special window, alternatively the manual way to do this

2. Go to the top right corner of your browser (in this case Firefox or Chrome) and click on the 3 lines or 3 dots respectively.

3. Select More Tools from the drop down menu.

4. Select Developer Tools/Web Developer Tools

5. This will open up a new screen within your webpage. Find the tab that says "console". Click where you see the little arrow with blank area.

6. Type in the following (I don't advise copy+paste as sometimes it doesn't like that) exactly as shown here: $("video").playbackRate=0.96 or whatever timing you think will work.

7. Press enter. Close that aforementioned window. Watch the video alongside your copy as normal and see if its syncing up correctly. If not, adjust the numbers again. Doing this allows you to set a custom speed for this video thats more specific than the ones given to you by default on the built in youtube video settings.

(0.959 speed is advised with this method)

Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

We hope you enjoy the video!

Comments

yes you have to have your own copy

Nathan Jasper

There is no sound for the episode. Is it supposed to be like that?

MajinVegeto89

I think people take issue with her doing that because she is pregnant and therefore isn't just putting herself at risk but also her unborn baby.

Connor W

I have a major issue with you guys calling Vasily's wife stupid for touching him and staying with him and wanting to be with her husband. She obviously knows the risks, she's been told so many time. But she obviously doesn't care. her husband is dying and she wanted to be with him because she didn't want him to die alone.

Thomas Jefferson Reyes

I know you guys don't react to additional videos anymore. But this would definitely be an interesting watch after you have finished the series. It's about an actual Chernobyl doctor fact checking certain events in the series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1GEPsSVpZY

Jasper

I get your sentiment at seeing Diatlov be the absolute snake that he is and say "People who are patriotic do some wild shit", but that's only one side of the coin. People who are patriotic are also dying right now to make sure this oppression never comes back again. Patriotism is something neutral in and of itself, it can make people do the most horrific and most heroic things. (Not a spoiler) The final episode will dive really deep into this, but the answer to almost every time you ask "Why?" is that this is the reality of Communism and rule under Russia. The state has to look good no matter what, so the evacuations were delayed for days, or even weeks in some cases, Prypyat and Chornobyl were shut off (Chernobyl is the Russian name of the town), not even the minister of coal gets told why he's getting the miners to Chornobyl, nobody in the Communist Party cares about taking care of them once the job is done, and everyone gets followed. The guy with the red spot on his head is Mikhail Gorbachiov, the last leader of the Soviet Union, so he was one of the most influential people in the world at the time, and look what he's done with it. He was hailed as a hero by many for being one of the less bad Communists in the Soviet Union, which sounds like a complete joke. This guy won a Nobel Peace Prize, this snake who had so much power to make things go a lot less worse and didn't to protect the image of the Russian occupying state. Him, Anatoliy Diatlov, Borys Shcherbyna, Valieriy Liegasov, they're all real people. Uliana Khomyuk is a combination of several real people. This shit is very real. And I can't laugh at the scene with the head of the KGB (who's a fictionalized character, but the KGB and his job are not), the secret service of the Soviet Union. I get that it's been humorized to make the show a little less depressing, but really think about him denying knowing who Khomyuk is until the end of the conversation. That is such a perfect summary of Soviet society that today's Russia is barely distinguishable from anymore, just with a freer market economy. I wanna be clear that I'm NOT blaming you or mad at you for the things you say. Nobody who hears of this stuff for the very first time could rationally believe that it happened until you know that it did. When people today say they want Communism because of some somewhat legitimate flaws with Capitalism, they don't know what they're saying, and they're digging everyone's graves. It's scary

Daria

I need to catch up. I used to work in a nuclear plant and we talked about Chernobyl in great lengths during my training. So I never had the taste to watch this show. But I think enough time has passed lol

Tapiocca

oh no we didn't! that's pretty cool though

CpaSpartan Pudgey

"The man has balls!", yeah, and you're going to see them very soon xd

Nalier

The team that did the visual effects (the radiation burns etc) won an Emmy award for their work for this series. It's the same team that did the visual effects for the Night King in GoT and Vecna in ST!

Eve

The guy you didn't recognise "Toptunov" and the second guy "Akimov" were the two that were sent down into the water to "put water through the core" in episode 1 by Dyatlov!

Melanie Vine

Did you guys spot one of the Coal men, the one that said "Now you look like the minister of coal" is Lord Commander Jeor Mormont?

Melanie Vine

After the series concludes i highly recommend watching: Chernobyl show vs Reality - footage Comparison on youtube. Not for a reaction just for yourself. Because a lot was captured on film of this disaster and the show has scènes that is almost a 1:1 Recreation of these real footage.

Slow Shadow

Yeah I'm dreading it lol I don't know why I keep putting myself through watching it

Mike

New favorite Pudgey quote: “There’s all these schlongs flopping about”

James Woodford

damn i can imagine that would be quite eerie

CpaSpartan Pudgey

god damn that is some heavy stuff. very sad indeed

CpaSpartan Pudgey

The prison the physicist is in is a real KGB prison. I've stood in that very room before. It's in the basement of the former KGB headquarters in Vilnius, Lithuania. Just outside that hallway is another building where the Soviets would execute people. It was pretty awful to be there and see where that all took place.

John Neiberger

This is so shocking because it is real people who went through a real horror situation. There is some controversy on whether the men such as Vasily, were actually emitting radiation after their clothes were removed and their skin was cleaned. In other words, radiation is not contagious. The no touching was really for the men who had the high doses of radiation since it tanked their immune systems and they could get an infection easily. However, they could still be emitting radiation due to the amount they received and that it was internally affecting their entire bodies. Anything that was coming out of them blood, vomit, saliva, you name it would be contaminated. Lyudmilla (Vasily's wife) also said she changed him when he soiled himself and that is definitely not just his body ridding itself of whatever he took in to eat but also his intestines were decomposing as they do with such high amounts of radiation. People have also been known to cough up parts of their lungs and other organs. I know gruesome, but realistic. Horrible way to die because it can linger for a few weeks like that. The coffins they buried them in were made of zinc and they were wrapped in plastic in case they leaked through the coffin into the soil - I know very disgusting. So sad. That is why I have questioned the precautions with the zinc coffins and cement. If they were no longer capable of transmitting radiation, since it is not contagious to others from their skin, but the fact they had it throughout their bodies, their cells, the fluids, etc. is most likely why the zinc coffins.

Lyn Hurst

Such a brutal episode. Thanks for the reaction 💙

Kai Westbrook

Real ghouls one of the hardest episodes of tv to watch.

Alex

Thank you for the upload!

Joe

Man, Stranger Things and Chernobyl back to back. It is a good day :-)
