Full Length Reaction Guide
We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync. Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen. Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0. Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:
Use a dual monitor PC setup to watch both screens simultaneously
Use the split screen functions on your computer/phone to watch them side by side
Chromecast / Screenshare one screen to your TV while watching the other screen on a phone or laptop
HDMI your laptop / tablet to the TV and use the TV as a 2nd monitor (not mirror display)
Use your Smart TV or Gaming console to play the YouTube reaction and your Phone/Laptop to play the show (or other way around)
Use Google chromes picture in picture mode to overlay your own copy of the show over our reaction in a smaller window size (Link to the extension here: ( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en )
We hope you enjoy the video!
Love,
Spartan & Pudgey 💕
this movie is basically like a magic trick. a magician does the trick when nobodys looking, the trick is basically to distract the viewer. just like we the audience is distracted by hugh jackmans performance and obsession, while we totally forgot about the actual prestige with christian bale.

US education system as well. They did not teach about him when I was in school. I believe some of it was due to stolen ideas/technology by Edison as well as Tesla sold some of his inventions, work... to Westinghouse who put its name on them and did not credit Tesla.

One of those rare movies in my opinion that gets better more times you watch it. While you will know the ending and wont be shocked by it anymore on rewatch, you get to appreciate all the scenes prior happening to it more instead.
Some scenes that come to mind, the “he killed it, where is his brother?” scene with the little boy (loved your guys reaction to that scene btw especially spartan laughing, “why that boy upset the bird is right there” 😂, ) and when he shows the boy the 2 headed coin, it represents the 2 brothers. Each head is half a full coin, each brother has half a full life shared in one. Also the “i love you” scenes with sarah/alfred, and especially the goodbye scene with fallon/alfred.
The message at the end “you dont want to know, you want to be fooled” is narrated to us. We were told by cutter alfred used a double in beginning and most of us watching like angier thought it was too obvious and didnt want to believe it and we were on angier’s side that there is more to it. Which links to the scene with alfred and the little boy with the coin. “Dont tell anyone the secret, the moment you give it up, you will be nothing to them, secret impresses no one, the trick you use it for is everything”. ) We didnt like to hear that the secret was a double, too obvious and doesnt impress us. Trick we see, not knowing the secret is what impresses us. Hence the message at the end” you want to be fooled”

Love this movie. When you watch it again, you pick up on things you missed first time watching it knowing the ending.
In the beginning of the movie when angier (wolverine) is reading bordens diary and the part where it transitions to the water tank trick. His journal reads “we were two young men at the start of a great career, two young men “devoted” to an illusion, two young men who didnt intend to hurt anyone.” When you first watch it and when angier is reading it, we think he is talking about himself and his rival but really he is talking about himself and his twin brother. “Both devoted to an illusion” and the illusion being a twin their whole life hiding it to perform their trick.
Also when Olivia tells angier he uses a double and angier says no. She says “He has things around, make up other things all the time time even when he doesn’t know i am coming. Angier refuses to believe and yells “ ALL the time!! He lives his act!”. Angier is right he does live his act. And at the beginning and end of movie, cutter narrates “you are looking for secret, but you wont find it, you dont really want to know, you want to be fooled”. That is angier. He is refusing to believe its a double, he would rather be fooled, not know and keep looking for the secret .
Also, That goodbye scene between the twin brothers at the jail scene is so powerful once you know the ending. “ you live your life in full now.. you live for both of us” , as they are taking him away to hang and gives him the rubber ball, that rubber ball that they passed to each other each time they performed their greatest trick. The last time they could pass the ball to each other. 😢
One of my favorite movies. Glad i got to rewatch it again with you guys 😃

This was my first time watching along with you guys and as soon as Fallon was first on screen I thought "that looks an awful lot like christian bale with make-up, he has to have a twin". Then while watching the rest, the tricks Borden pulled (like when he "teleported" into his soon-to-be wifes apartment) and the way Fallon was always ambiguously never really shown only made me more convinced that a twin was the only explanation, and that they were switching places. Bloody ruined the movie for myself. Did the same shit with shutter island. Still enjoyed the reaction though S&P! Much love

Heavy Spoilers has a really great breakdown of this movie on YouTube. This has been one of my favorite movies since I saw it in theaters and I cannot emphasize enough just how entirely rewatchable it is, even after the 10th time

When I was in school, they focused a lot on Thomas Edison and did not mention Tesla much (1970s/80s) in the US.

I still believe in the theory that the Cloning machine is a fake and not really working, but that Angier is actually killing numerous doubles of himself instead of clones (the audience wants to be fooled)

I highly encourage you guys to read about the real historical figures: Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. I feel like it is important to know who they are so you can appreciate the movie more.

The fact that they don't seem to know who Nikola Tesla is, throw the Australian education system right in the bin! But jokes aside, I'd never seen this movie before this, and wow I've been missing out. The way the whole plot mirrors the stages of a magic trick makes you think you are in on it the whole time, when really you're being tricked. Great movie.

They were pretty clearly twins, that's the whole premise. The trick was always the simplest answer, but Angier didn't want to believe it. Also Tesla never made more than one cloning machine, the assistant said they never claimed to make one before.

So tesla is a real guy who amongst a lot of things he discovered / invented wireless conduction of electricity. BUT this would be a problem to Edison since they were making a lot of money by selling copper for wires. Teslas invention would have made wires obsolete but because there was a whole market for copper mining and wire production they sabotage tesla's whole operation. Hence why we use cables and shit to bring electricity to our homes to this day.
It's like if someone today discovered the cure for cancer but the pharmaceutical industry shut it down because of how big the market for chemotherapy is.

Great reaction! Loved rewatching this with you. Regarding which knot was tied, Borden said that he "asked himself" many times which knot he tied on Angier's wife He's talking about arguing with his brother. He also says he does not know which knot was tied, because that brother was not the one who tied the knot.

You can see the cat that was cloned run outside after it was in the machine. Hence two cats.

I just thought of something... when they used the cat in the machine, the assistant was upset his cat was being used which makes us think that's the first time they've used the cat. But there were two cats outside. So... was he upset because his cat was being used again? Or was more than one clone made each time?

I liked the movie, I just didn't like the cloning.
I can understand the movie, but the only thing that's still unanswered for me is whether Borden and Fallon are twins or clones. I mean, wasn't Tesla building "the exact same machine" for Angier? So there was already a cloning machine which Borden might have used. And, of course, the way each of them used their clone(s) was vastly different.
🤔 but now that I think about it, if Borden/Fallon didn't know which knot he tied, then there must have been already 2 of them back then, and I don't think Tesla's (1st) cloning machine was finished back then, so Borden/Fallon must be twins then.

Thought I would give some examples of which scenes you could tell which version of Borden was there:
The scene where Sarah tells Borden hat she is pregnant his immediate reaction is to say "We should tell Fallon". This Borden is the one that loves Olivia.
The scene where Borden talks with Olivia asking her to believe that he loves her. This Borden loves Olivia.
The scene where Borden and Sarah fight and we see Fallon taking their child outside. This is the Borden that loves Olivia.
The Borden that was drunk at dinner and was locked in the casket was the one that loves Olivia.
The Borden that died, was indeed, the one that loved Olivia.
The Borden that originally gets shot during the Bullet Catch Trick is the Borden that loves Sarah because the Borden that later gets his "freshly cut" fingers treated by Sarah has zero patience for her . This also means that the Borden that loved Sarah was not the one that tied the knot that killed Angier's wife because he responded "I don't know" when Angier asked him during the Bullet Catch trick.
If you pay close attention, the Borden that loves Olivia always sounds a bit angrier and a bit more aggressive. Its very subtle, but you can clearly tell and is why Christian Bale is one of the best actors alive.

If you'd like more magic, check out The Illusionist (2006). For more Christian Bale, check out The Fighter (2010) :)

I agree! The Illusionist is a really good movie. Very different, but also in many ways a similar vibe.

Excellent reaction!! Spartan is right that Angier went to America because he was tricked. The only thing Tesla made for Borden was a gimmicky little decoration for his act. Tesla came up with the machine for Angier on his own. It wasn't planned.
Borden lived his life with his twin brother as one person. His trick was sacrifice and that's why Borden got Chung Ling Soo's method so quickly. There are a lot of details you will see on a second watch. You will easily spot which version of Borden was which. Even down to one Borden telling the other Borden to leave Angier alone, then at the end Borden says "I should have listened to you". Nolan is the Magician and this is one of the greatest films ever made.
Nikola Tesla was a real person that did a lot of amazing things. I cry for the Australian Education System. 🤣
Also, the reason Cutter tells Angier the truth about drowning is because Cutter is disgusted with Angier at that point and wants Angier to know exactly what kind of monster he is.
Lastly, yes, Sarah worked it out at the end. She knew Borden had a twin and that only one of them loved her.
