The Martian [2015] | Movie Reaction

The Sean Bean edit during the credits killed me 😂😂

I think what hooks you about this movie is that it’s set in our current time period with accurate & realistic science. No futuristic technology, aliens or far-flung galaxies… The focus is on a very relatable main character and the people trying to save him. Basically, it’s a survival movie set in space. Tense drama, but also hopeful: an unusual combo that’s really effective.

hahaha thats a trippy way to look at it xD

Murph catches Dr Mann in outer space while Boromir works behind the scenes. Interstellar 2 was insane!

Excellent movie. Only thing that bothered me... but it was pretty easy to get past... is that the atmosphere of Mars is 98% less dense than ours... meaning that the wind storm in the beginning wouldn't have had enough mass to knock anything over. Fast moving particles and dust might still cause damage to things... but nothing would go flying and the MAV would not be tipping. It's interesting because later in the movie they take advantage of the fact that there is barely an atmosphere.

In regards to showing the night sky from Mars, it's almost identical to the night sky from earth, so really wouldn't have done much for you. Also Mars has 2 moons but they are tiny, orbit much closer and faster than earth's moon and look like potatoes, so pretty hard to see from the ground.

This is an outstanding movie, based on a phenomenal book by Andy Weir. I've read the novel first and was very anxious to see how they will adapt it but I think they've done a great job with it. There are cut stuff mostly his inner thoughts and monologue but I was very happy with it. Also, really good casting shoutout to the actor who played Vincent Kapoor (Chiwetel Ejiofor), absolutely great bringing a lot of humor without actual jokes just by the way he was delivering his lines. Jessica Chastain ( Murph from Interstellar ) always delivers very on point and powerful performances, this is not any different. This is a tough role for the lead actor but I think Matt Damon did a great job with it, he pretty much carried the first half of the movie and it was really fun and interesting. As for why Martinez went back up again? The guy is a pilot. Fighter pilots when they retire become airliner pilots. That love for flying never fades so I'm sure he jumped on the opportunity to go back up again. He also proved that he is really good at it. This is one of my favourite movie from Ridley Scott. Guys I'm telling you the sci-fi genre is amazing. It allows for excellent character drama in really wild environments and situations and it has literally unlimited flavors. It would seem that scifi is the way to get Spartan emotional and there are no car chases in space so its a safe place for Pudgey. :) There are some really good scifi shows and movies that I feel are right up your alley ( The Expanse, Battlestar Galactica ) with a super-rich world to immerse yourself into, complex and very layered characters and story/character arcs that would blow your minds. @Pudgey: that jab about the sfici/space stuff was funny, it's such a fiance move lol... "not gonna let that shit slide, not on my watch boi" It was really fun to watch, quality entertainment as usual, thanks guys! :)

“Gollum’s actor”… wtf Spartan 😂 I thought you were house Stark!

Logikino (Luke)

There is no such thing as hard sci fi. It does not exist. It is a contradictory statement.

Oh to add another “space movie” have you already seen Armageddon?

So this is one of the hardest of hard sci-fi stories. Andy Wier was very meticulous on the details, keeping in mind the number of science geeks who were going to be reading it. There was one thing they say he got wrong, which he admitted to intentionally getting wrong as a creative decision. A 200mph gust on Mars is comparable to something like a 10mph gentle breeze on Earth, because the atmosphere is so thin. All the crazy stuff, and that was pretty much it. Andy Wier is a legend.

interstellar is AMAZING!!! you have to be patient the plot twists and pay off is insane.

CpaSpartan Pudgey

I literally made the meme face when I heard spartan say "thats golums actor" before the meme even came up on screen

Jacob Castle

i hope you guys liked good old Ned Stark making an appearance where he doesnt get beheaded! Poor Borimir (not Gollum aha) and Ned both get killed so glad to see it wasnt him dying on Mars! the council of Elrond was cool addition aswell, he was in that meeting too. glad this film made the #1 on the poll. fun fact it was nominated as a comedy in all the film awards for that year. Matt Damon was amazing to be fair

Ashton Boyle

Never seen this so I’m watching it for the first time through your reaction….hopefully important stuff isn’t edited out so I’m not lost! 😆 I tried interstellar a few months ago, we couldn’t get past 20-30 min for some reason, it was going nowhere! 😅
