2024-05-26 05:16:36 +0000 UTCStrongly agree, you basically summed up my feelings towards s3. It’s a fun watch, but definitely my least fav overall. Unfortunately some of the writing choices I wasn’t vibing with (how Hopper was written, the Russian plot, etc.)

In part because I really love Max, and in part because I wouldn’t have enjoyed having the two female members of the party be catty with each other. Not all of Max’s advice is good, but I think it tells us a lot about her and how her past has formed her views on relationships. I also think El needs someone to encourage her to find herself and not just try to adapt to what the important people in her life (Hop and Mike) want from her. Speaking of friendships, Steve and Dustin are 10/10, no notes. Also Robin’s ”how many children are you friends with?” comment is pure gold. I like this season but it’s definitely my least favourite so far. One big reason is the Russia subplot which feels so disjointed from the upside down and Hawkins lab. Another big reason is how they’ve written Hop. He scares Mike away from seeing El, sees how upset that makes her, and he’s… thrilled? Doesn’t feel like the Hop I know and love.
