I always thought this episode was needed. After all, Stranger Things among other stuff is a coming-of-age show. This episode not only expands El's story, but is a, sort of, rebellious stage for her. Similar to the red cryptonite storyline from Smallville.

Nalier

We saw the demogorgon jumping on Brenner, but we didn't see Brenner dead. There were other people present as well, soldiers. I assume they started shooting and demogorgon went straight for them, giving Brenner enough time to run.

Nalier

As Taylor Swift says “I’ve seen this episode and still love the show” 😂😂

Maggie Jordan

this episode never made sense originally but after season 4 im pretty sure the writers just decided to act like it never happened.

Justin miner

i hated this episode lmao and while i get that it's vital to ell's story.... i honestly think i would've hated it less if they intertwined plot A (hawkins crew) and plot B (ell's lil trip) together throughout the episodes rather than being a standalone. i think all of us would've suffered less that way 🥹

chvrrvism

I remember how divisive this episode was when it came out. To leave us with such a massive Hawkins cliffhanger & go to a whole Eleven "bottle" episode was a weird choice in terms of pacing, for sure. But narratively it makes sense: character development/backstory for El & affirmation that she does indeed have a home. Huge implications as well re: Brenner. I liked that Kali(#8) has different powers to Eleven.

Robin Lee Melendez

To be honest, Stranger Things brought this upon itself starting off with Will llike that in S1 ;)

Chris B

I like the episode and it is much needed, but having this as ep 6 and then all Hawkins stuff in a row would have been better.

Chris B

Lmao that sucks that everybody hates this episode. I can understand though but daamnnn the hate is ruthless 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anaya Imari

Pudgy making some good guesses...

Demented Avenger

I get why Pudgey is sceptical of deaths but tbh it kinda ruins her reactions. I think the default should be to believe a death and then be suprised when someone isn't dead. When you are in denial about every death it makes you unable to emotionally connect with a death scene. Most of the time someone doesn't die twice so might aswell try to believe it haha. Not trying to hate at all it's just how I feel. Like honestly Pudgey never really reacted to Barbs death so that sucks.

Valcor

I hated this on my original watch because yes it broke the flow of 6 and 8. But honestly rewatching it I can see how important it was for Eleven to discover who she is and that Hawkins is her home. Eleven could have easily ended up like Eight and gone down a darker path without Joyce Hopper and Mike. I think thats what this episode was trying to show so I agree.

Valcor

Agree 100% this episode is all about Eleven deciding who and where she is meant to be. I hated it when I first watched it but now rewatching it honestly i get it. I think this episode should be switched with episode 6 and it would flow much better. Have the scene of her seeing Hopper and Mike be a flash forward and the next episode could explain it.

Valcor

I remember hating this episode on my original watch because it didn't continue on from episode 6. But rewatching the episode I think its really important for Eleven to work out some things about herself and where she belongs. I still think it probably should have been switched with episode 6 and it would have worked much better.

Valcor

I think you were meant to see Eight as pretty much everything that could have gone wrong with Eleven. She is basically Eleven if she didn't have Mike, Joyce and Hopper. People focus too much on a throway character like Eight and miss the message.

Valcor

I think this episode was just a way to show Eleven that Hawkins is her real home. She was having an identity crisis with her Mother, Aunt and Eight so she wasn't sure where she belongs. The characters in this episode and the quality of it are not the best. But it does its job in getting Eleven to return home and getting back on the right path... I think thats why the Mother said "no" when Eleven said she was home, because her real home is Hawkins and she needed to go to Eight to realise that. Eleven could have easily ended up like Eight and gone down a darker path. But she was lucky that she found Mike, Joyce and Hopper etc who guided her a different way. So I think people miss the mark on why this episode is important. It's about Eleven finding out who she is and where her true home is. Everything else is just a plot device to bring her to that realisation. Also I think people would be less harsh on this episode if it wasn't sandwiched between 6 and 8 which are such good episodes. I remember being pissed when I first watched this because it didn't continue straight from episode 6. Which honestly is understandable because in comparison to them it's abit of a let down.

Valcor

For sure this was my least favorite episode, but when we get to the end of season 4 there's a discussion to be had. I'll say no more lol. Loved your reactions as always, roll on Wednesday :D

Melanie Vine

Yeah a definite departure of the normal tone. I agree with most, it was just a strange way to order the episodes to start with 8 and then take most of the season to get to that point and spend a whole episode on it. Still, Eleven definitely needed this part of her arc.

Riolkin

Its not vital they could of just made 11 hear hop apologizing on the radio there was no need for these characters to be introduced

Cal

no one cared about these characters, watching back now for the 2nd time i think it's vital to elles story to understand where her real home lies, but yeah it wasn't an enjoyable episode

Ghostcat

This is honestly the worst episode in the whole series and nothing comes even close. But to drop this show over one episode is highly overreacting. When it comes to season 3 I love it but I’m a huge fan of the group that gets a lot of the screen time. With All that being said I hope you make your own mind on season 2 and 3.

Sonicluis

I enjoyed this episode as a side story but it really didn't need to be the entire episode. I understand why the eight character is there but she was very cliche and her backstory was cliche. It was cool to see how eleven was just thrown into this random party but still stuck to her morals in the end even after being manipulated into someone else's agenda. Eights power is really cool.

AlrightThere

queen pudgey giving baddie with these glasses

Zehra Shad

Firstly, get well soon Pudgey! I think not many of us connected with 8 and the bargain bucket suicide squad. But it was a necessary journey for El. I did love the train scene, “they stole your life Jane.” Followed by El’s scream was quite powerful I thought.

Super Novice

AkiZzu

Oh you mentioned at the start you're not feeling so well, Pudgey? The flu is it? I hope you feel better soon.

Paul

this episode sucks but the next one is INSANE

Katie

i hate this episode but i love u guys so i’m up for watching it with yall lol

Katie

This episode is pretty much the main reason why a lot of people say that season 2 is weaker than season 1.

Lise

So glad we're over this episode lol

Eve

I would do anything for these to be put out faster, my FAVOURITE tv show reaction from u guys, can't wait for the rest.

Ebony

Also for me it‘s my (by far) least favorite episode of the entire show. And every time I rewatch Stranger Things I am surprised that it is only one episode. In my memory from watching season 2 for the first time, the story of this episode was like a couple of episodes. And so I‘m always happy, that it‘s just one episode and Eleven is already on her way back to Hawkins. 😂

AkiZzu

There are alot of good things that happen in season 2, and this episode is not one of them. I think this episode is the reason why people hate season 2. You are correct, it is a right of passage, and it must be tolerated, even if it is just to get to more story. And that is such a shame, because it could have been something amazing.

Richard Flores

Everyone (pretty much) feels this way about this episode. Eight is the worst character and is unlikeable. I do think we were supposed to see it that way so that we could appreciate where "Home" is for El. Don't put too much effort into this episode, lol. Next two episodes are AMAZING and back to the roots.

Kim Elsner

I'm so excited for the next episode it's one of my favorites in the series

Madison

Yep, exactly. It's why I didn't like this season. The tone is completely different, and in such a way that it really detracts from the show. I get what they were going for, but it just feels too off that 11 would just immediately become part of a violent criminal gang with almost no thought about it. It didn't seem consistent with her character.

John Neiberger

i haven’t seen the reaction yet but i specifically remember being so hyped after the ending of episode 6 and then episode 7 came and it was literally an entire episode for eleven.. i think this was probably my least favorite episode in the entire series just because i got bored really quickly.. i like when it goes back and forth between characters and scenes but it’s also worse because i was so anxious to see what happened at hawkins lab but had to wait a whole other freaking episode to see what happens next lol

Katie

Excited for the next episode for such an iconic scene! Also nervous because of what all happens lol

Cortney K

Can't wait for the next two! Is there a schedule posted anywhere ?? :)

Gypsysoul.adventureawaits

luckily, as a lot of other commenters have said above, that is the most commonly considered worst episode of the series (so far). so at least that’s out of the way and it’s all up from here!

AG

Because she didn't care about all that anymore. She wanted to belong to someone, have a real family, not get sucked back into all that drama.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Apparently you've never been to Cherokee 😂

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

That's really silly. One episode and you were done with the whole show? Come on, man

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

This episode grew on me after watching a second time. It adds a lot to Eleven’s character arc. She has so much growth by the end - stronger with her powers, and confident about who she wants to be. She’s making huge life choices on her own for the first time. When Eight tells her that her friends can’t save her, I love the way El says “No, but I can save them”. Gets me hyped for her return home! I do agree that the episode feels out of place. I think people would enjoy it more if it didn’t just focus on El. These scenes could have been mixed in with the previous episode. Stranger Things is an ensemble show, and switching between the different character groups keeps things interesting.

imperial

I initially had the same reaction to this episode as most, but I have softened to it over time. And although I agree that I wish this narrative was woven into the other episodes instead, I feel like I can't judge any one episode too harshly until the series is completed.

Erinn

Ready for the next two episodes

Nate Kouns

Sorry you're feeling unwell Pudgey, feel better soon! Call are right on the money with us not feeling at home in this episode, just like eleven. I think that was deliberate, and makes the conclusion of this season all the more effective. Can't wait!

Zander Woosley

My least favorite episode of the entire series. I almost didn't watch it. But realized it's like a right of passage, so wanted to see you make it through.

Do Not Talk About Fight Club

damn I was excited for a new reaction then I realized it was this episode hehe.

Elvira Heredia

Another thing I found odd is how do you as El, having gone through last seasons events with the upside down, not mention the portal and the upside down to the only other person who has powers like yours.

Michael Stanley

I find this to be a cringey episode - maybe just out of place. It broke the flow from episode 6. Eleven learned how she didn't want to be and who her friends really are. Kali teaching Eleven how to strengthen her gifts was helpful too. The next two episodes are great. Eleven learned from the good in Hopper, Mike and her Hawkins friends that she is not a monster. That is the part that Eight was wrong about, some in the world who don't know Eleven may think she is a monster, but those who know and love her know she is a loving, compassionate person and her gifts can be used to protect those she loves and against the evil taking over Hawkins. Just a side note. The song Runaway that was playing was by a band called Bon Jovi. Jon Bon Jovi's son, Jake Bongiovi (original spelling of their surname) is engaged to Millie Bobbie Brown (Eleven) who is currently 20 years old. They have been together three years.

Lyn Hurst

Lol, Pudgey hates to be wrong. RIP Barb.

AP

Now that is out, i can say that this episode is the reason why a lot of people didn’t like the season. I get it but I also think that it shows us what could be Eleven’s life if she didn’t meet Hop and Mike and all of the people that care for her. I get kali’s point, she didn’t have someone to teach her about love and friendship, but I truly believe that she cared about El, in her way. Now I can only say: can’t wait to the next episode, is one of my favorite! Hope Pudgey gets better soon ❤️

Loren

The tone was off and we didn't need a whole episode for this arc. The crew was weird and over the top. I just don't buy that druggie 40 year olds are hanging out with children going around killing people. It all just seemed so silly. Also breaks up the amazing pacing of the rest of the season up to this point. Imo it's the weakest episode of the entire show if I had to pick one and the main reason why most people say season 2 is the weakest season. Excited to get into the rest of the season and then season 3 and 4!

Gemineye

This was their one mistake, the content of this episode should have been woven in to the previous episode(as they take place at the same time), and then been 2 episodes. This episode has colored many peoples minds of the entire season which I think other wise is a good season.

Michael Stanley

80s punk was such a badass look. Cruising down the road, leather and slicked back hair, jamming to The Runaways... Still, that group was a horrible influence on Eleven. On one hand, It's what she needed to enhance her abilities. On the other, it helped her understand what Hopper was talking about. Bad people that know about her will always eventually want to use her.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

ahh yes quite easily the worst episode of the entire series, i actualy stopped watching stranger things after this season because of this episode and didnt pick it back up until the season 4 hype
