The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 | Reaction & Review

Comments

Katniss had to kill coin because at that point no one else has seen how diabolical she really is. The districts have already turned on snow, and whether she hit him or not he was on deaths door. Coin however would require another war to get out of power. So Katniss took the responsibility of getting rid of her and being the villain, she wasn’t planning on living after though. Which is why she had the nightlock pill which Peeta takes from her. Last thing: Suzanne Collin’s (author) has stated her biggest regret in these books is killing Finnick. That if she could go back she would have him live. So in my world, Finnick lives, and is happily raising his son with Annie.

Casey Kendrick

Also, in the book, Katniss is left in her old training center room. With no human contact. For months while she’s on trial for the murder of Coin. They completely cut that out and just pardon her. She’s also not okay back home in 12, and Peeta’s return happens months later.

I know a lot of people called out that Gale created the bomb that killed Prim, but it’s more than just that. This is skipped in the movies, but Gale doesn’t go to see her when she’s in the hospital, or even once she’s out. He doesn’t go to see her until Snow’s execution. So when she asks him if it was him… he can’t meet her eyes, he’s avoided her because he knows it’s his fault. He might not have dropped the bomb himself, but it was his creation… and I think they both knew that, even though Prim was killed, Gale doesn’t think what Coin did was wrong. It ended the war. He only feels remorse guilt because Prim was killed, and he only cared about keeping Prim safe because he wanted Katniss’s favor. He didn’t care about the innocent children, people or medics who were killed. Thats something Katniss can’t let go of. Even his last comment to her, a casual comment about how his only job was to keep her family safe and he failed at that. There’s very little real remorse/accountability with Gale. Also left out from the books, Katniss’s conversation with Snow in the garden was a little more elaborated. He calls out the fact that Prim was too young to be on the battlefield. She was 13. The age of enlistment in district 13 was 14 years old. So Prim had to have received special permission to be there, which could only be approved by someone of high rank… and to put Prim, a 13 year old girl on the front lines? Snow also informed Katniss that Plutarch had aired the bombing of capital children live on tv, so EVERYONE saw it. Katniss tried to go to Haymitch for help, and he makes a joke about her coming to him for advice on boy trouble. Her mental state is garbage, so she runs off, refuses to speak to him. That’s why, even though he doesn’t know what Katniss is planning when she agrees to another hunger games (something he knows she wouldn’t do), he follows her lead. He knew she was looking for help, that something was wrong, and she was playing an angle. The movie doesn’t really do a good job of communicating that.

I agree, it felt abrupt moving from the bombing to Katniss waking up, but she also got blown up at that moment. The books are from Katniss's perspective, so we don't actually see what happened after the bombings until she wakes up days later. That is why the movie was done in that way.

Shelly D

If Katniss said no to the hunger games she most likely would have been killed. That's why her and Haymitch say yes to avoid suspicion.

Valcor

I like how they ended the war so abruptly actually. I loved that the guards turned on Snow and laid down their weapons after thinking he dropped the bombs. Just goes to show you can have all the power and money in the world, but if you lose the people's support you are done.

Valcor

At the end of the movie Plutarchs actor had died so that's why he left a letter. The scene is more sad when you know that fast.

Valcor

Gail made the bombs that killed Prim and the Civilians. That's why Katniss wanted nothing to do with him.

Valcor

yup

just wanted to mention; district 13's history is pretty effed up. before the 1st rebellion, district 13 supplied military and nuclear weapons to the capitol, which meant district 13 had an extremely large arsenal of power to use. district 13 led the first rebellion, as it was the only district with enough power to stand up to the capitol. d13 started to become unhappy with the difference the power balance between themselves and the capitol, so they started a rebellion and convinced the other districts to join. during the 1st rebellion, it soon became clear that the rebels would be defeated; however they would still cause a LOT of damage to the capitol and its citizens. so, district 13 abandonded the other districts and made an off-the-table deal with the capitol; district 13 promised to leave the rebellion, leave the capitol alone, and in turn the capitol would not force 13 to participate in the games or in the district/capitol system. so, the capitol agreed with the conditions and bombed the surface of 13 to give the illusion it was completely destroyed. the capitol knew that district 13 had underground infastructure, but they hoped that because district 13 was now cut off from the rest of the world that they would die out. so, district 13 abandoned their brothers and sisters (in the middle of a war that d13 themselves started) to save their own skin, and then decided 75 years later to once again lead the districts against the capitol. district 13 has a big history of using the other districts as pawns in its battle with the capitol.

It was Gales bomb design that killed Prim, that’s where Katniss cold shoulder comes from at the end. He says I don’t know, when she asks if it was his design but I think it’s a yes or no question, so that I don’t know cop out gave her the answer. She couldn’t be with someone who had even the slightest part in the death of not only her sister but a bunch of other innocent people and children. She’s a protector at her core and after all she’s been through she needs someone soft while Gale is more like a raging fire. Rip Finnick my favorite side character to ever be. Loved the reaction but what’s new thank you 🔥🔥

Jay

Great reaction guys. I’m so glad you loved & appreciated the movies. The Hunger Games is my all time favourite series. Can’t wait for prequel The Ballard of Songbirds & Snakes

Jamie

I hope this gives you a little more context. Gale is the one who created the 2 bomb plan. To draw more people in for maximum casualties. It’s what Katniss & Gale argue about at the beginning of Mockingjay Part 2 because she knows it will likely kill innocents while he thinks of them as helping the enemy. So it’s his war design that ultimately kills Prim. I don’t think Katniss so much blames Gale directly for Prim’s death but how could she ever look at him the same knowing he did in some way play a part in the death of her sister? She did warn him it’s a plan that would harm the wrong people and it did. The medial units. Katniss only agrees to a symbolic Hunger Games to gain Coin’s trust because Katniss needs to be the one who Coin let’s kill Snow. Katniss has to be in the same place as both of them so she can enact her true mission: to kill Coin instead. Then it’s poetic justice that the people kill Snow. Because of the death of Prim. Because she believes Peeta is lost to her mentality. Because she can’t be around Gale anymore & her mother can’t handle the loss of her sister Katniss after killing Coin knows she’ll be taken prisoner for technically assassinating a President. So she intends to take a night lock suicide pill. Peeta takes it from her. She’s then pardoned & released to live out her life in District 12.

Jamie

In the books, it is better explained that Katniss didn't vote yes for the symbolic Hunger Games because she wanted them. She voted yes to gain Coin's trust so the assassination could occur. Katniss never wanted a symbolic Hunger Games.

The actor who played Plutarch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) was absent from the end of Mockingjay because, tragically, he died from a heroin overdose. The letter Haymitch read was a way of including him until the end. IMO, Hoffman was one of the best of his generation.

M. Gideon Hoyle

Keep in mind when you watch the Prequel that when you read the book you are reading Snows thoughts so he comes across way worse than he does in the movie since it doesn't have his inner diologue.

Abrielle Wright

The prequel was great. I've seen many people say it's one of the best in the series.

Abrielle Wright

Gale was the one who made the plans for the bomb that killed Prim. First one explotion, then wait for people to run in to help, and then a second bomb.

Tinths

Fun fact if you guys didn't know that lady in the leopard costume that helped them right after finnick died is actually snows cousin. She's in the hungers games ballad of songbirds and snakes movie. Just found that out myself.

ParsivalXP

The hunger games ballad of songbirds and snakes is probably my second favorite one out of all of them. The acting was absolutely incredible. You really feel the human cruelty and whoever played snow in the movie needs acouole Oscar's for that performance.

ParsivalXP

Not one person mentioned the new hunger games movie about Snow when he was younger and how it all began. I hope you guys do that one next

ParsivalXP

This was one of J-Law's first big roles (carrying the whole series) and she knocked it out of the park. For my money, her turn as Katniss (especially if you know what J-Law is like IRL, goofy and funny) was the one she should have won awards for because it's so believable that she's this kind of unlikeable person who happens to really inspire people when she speaks from the heart.

Also these movies kind of get lumped in with the copycat series once this series did so well, but it was truly popular and superior for a reason.

fr0st

Yeah, basically Gale = hate and violence and Peeta = kindness and peace. Symbolically, it makes sense that Katniss never wanted violence, she just had to embrace it to keep her family fed and safe in movie 1. By the end, she's had enough and chooses peace with Peeta. Also, the fact that she initially said she would never bring kids into the world with Hunger Games, and now she has kids shows she feels much more hopeful and secure about the world now.

In the book the thing with Gale is explained a little better. He's the one who has the idea to create the false bombs that go off twice and kill specifically the medical responders who come to attend to the injured. Prim is of course a nurse, and as a medical responder she ran in to give medical assistance to Capitol citizens , not even her own side. Then the bombs went off and killed her. In a way, Gale's lust for blood is what killed Prim, Even though he did not directly drop the bomb on her.

Gandheezy

Star Wars must be the next movie series

ispan

At the end with Coin, it was Katniss’ plan to shoot Coin and to take the night-lock pill herself. Even though Coin was batshit, her and her people were still in control so Katniss knew she would be imprisoned which she didn’t want to be. That’s the reason in the letter Haymitch read at the end they said they wanted her to lay low until she could receive a pardon, cause she did still technically kill the president lol

Daniel Jackson

Amazing reactions as always! Next I would LOVE if you guys reacted to Inception. One of my favorite movies of all time. Maybe even react to some other Christopher Nolan films!

Gerald Lapenta

Super happy u enjoyed this series!! 😇❤️ Loved ur reaction to these

Jan

Katniss chooses Peeta because he brings her peace. Throughout the movie there are multiple interactions in which Gale’s true character as a ‘hateful’ person comes through. He says that killing isn’t personal. Katniss disagrees and says that it’s always personal. He says he’d kill Peeta - right in front of her. The bombs he helped working on disgusted Katniss. And ultimately one of these very bombs killed her sister, which was obviously the last straw for her. (Of course all of this is explained way better in the 📚)

Jan

In the books Katniss reason for letting Gale go and choosing Peeta is explained as this: "That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that."

Amber Schaap

If you want more J Law movies, she has some great ones to check out either for the channel or on your own. Silver Linings Playbook, ofc, if you want something more serious. That won her the academy award for best actress in 2013. But No Hard Feelings is also soooo funny and very new! Hunger Games is (imo) still her best project though.

Storm

In the books I remember Katniss choosing Peta was her choosing love and forgiveness instead of the war in Gale. After everything that happened and losing her sister she needed someone who is kind and gentle not someone looking for a fight. Also, Gale was the one that brought up the strategy of luring people in with the thought of safety and attacking them when they are most vulnerable.. which is what happened to the children and Prim in the end. So that’s why Katniss asked if it was his plan and he didn’t know. Loved your reaction to this series!!

Jennypoo0

Are you watching the uncut reaction or the edited reaction? Me: Yes
