Loved to see how in the end Katniss was happy with a family and living in peace. I was devouring these books until til Finnick died, I remember that pissed me off, and then once Prim died, I remember throwing the book across the room. 15 or 20 years later I finally find out how it ends. 😃

Welcome Stephanie! yep that makes sense, still sad to see them end on that note

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Also, a thing from the books about Prim being out on the front lines. She would have been too young to be concidered a soldier in district 13, let alone on the front lines. The only way she could have ended up there is if she was hand selected from Coin. At least those were Katniss's thoughts after her conversation with Snow in the greenhouse.

Stephanie

Hi, new member here! The thing with Gale is if you remember in Part 1 Gale and Beetee talking about offensive war tactics, it was Gale's idea for the bomb followed by another delayed bomb to kill the ones that come into help. In the books Gale gets quite involved with those planning tactics. So when his bomb design is what kills her sister, she'll just never be able to separate them.

Stephanie

I always watch/rewatch these movies and shows thinking I will look like Spartan when watching a sad scene, but I always end up looking like Pudgey instead. 😂 (no matter how many times I've watched it before).

Guilherme G.

so excited to watch this reaction later! i’m begging you guys to please watch the prequel too, it will make my life complete

Katie

Oh yea... there were alot of deaths for sure in this finale. BUT WHY PRIM?! Still hurts every freaking time. Great reaction as always guys.

Toan Toan

pleaseeee react to the ballad of songbirds and snakes!!

Zeddy

Prim's death is Gale's fault. Katniss can't move on from that, and neither could I. From what I remember from the books, it was more devastating to read. Also, the "mutts" are just Capitol beast like creations. Finnick's death always destroys me, poor Annie. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the conversation between Snow and Katniss, it is so well done, and then the culmination with the execution scene... chefs kiss. Imagine the combined PTSD and peace that Katniss and Peeta feel now that they have their own children, not having to worry about the Hunger Games but never being able to forget their own experiences.

Nicole Herd

It very much echoes history. Revolutions against a tyrant are good and just, but oftentimes they are hijacked by someone who wants to establish a similar system and uses the revolutionary fervor to silence dissent. The perfect example for this is the French Revolution, which eventually ended with a new monarchy being established, just under a different family. The general populace paid the price with a lot of blood, and for what?

SuddenImpulse

While it does have some flaws I never really understood why people are so harsh on these two films, having read the books myself. I think they nailed this a lot better than a lot of movies. I do think Finnick's death could have been given a bit more time to breathe but that's a source material issue. As far as Deathly Hallows, I do agree that most things deemed not explained were in fact explained but were missed by the reactors, but Deathly Hallows has its own problems, the most stark is being that it completely missed the point of the death scene. I will say there are certain scenes I wish weren't cut, that could've probably been added in lieu of some scenes that exist taking longer than they needed to, but that's a common problem in film adaptations in general, HP included.

SuddenImpulse

Most underwhelming ending to a franchise imo , there’s a reason why alot of people don’t like the last 2 films , compared to the first 2 that were great, these were completely average or even below average imo , also Spartan you said this whole franchise were “perfect writing” and went on a 10 minute rant in the reaction to deathly hallows about the stuff that were explained in the film if you were paying attention and fun fact Deathly hallows part 2 is far more critically acclaimed, way higher audience score , higher imbd rating which means more loved by audiences and critics alike . Also hated the way they underused finnick in the last 2 films even though he was one of the most interesting and was a fan favourite just to kill him in the most gruesome way.

TheRoguePrince19

Peeta is honestly one of the purest humans ever portrayed in fiction. If a man should have a role model, look no further. Maybe with a few extra drops of Gale mixed in, but for this story, it's perfect. Gale was fire, fury, passion. That's who Katniss already is. It isn't what would mesh with her soul, unite into something even greater. She needed the soothing spring calm of Peeta for that.

Paul

RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman ( He died of an overdose at the end of the film. It was said he only had one more scene left to film before his death. I wonder how much the ending changed because of his death or was it just a goodbye scene )

Joseph Schiller

Amazing...I often said this but in our day and age there is definitely really great and extremely deep message about war and geopolitics by the end of the series and how it affects our world through political elites. Having Coin be willing to do whatever Snow would do or worse in order to gain power and 'free Panem' which is what Coin thought she was doing(in her own mind) is one of the best ideas...mostly because it is very resonant of how sadly a lot of this works in the real world; where you only fight to see yourself become the villain. You mentioned that meeting at the table with the victors is a turning point...There is a world where Katniss says yes because of her grief and allow the cycle of perpetual violence to continue, this ending we got is extremely bittersweet and emphasizes the fact that there is no victory without horrible sacrifice, but it is also extremely hopeful in allowing us to believe that true courage and values that Katniss has can bring hope and prevail in the end...Thank you for these reactions they were a blast!

In the books, they make it clear that the trap and bomb that killed Prim was originally created by Gale. It is also clear that although it isn't directly Gales fault, Katniss states that she could never look past that. She knows it is not fair, but she can never forget that it was Gale's bomb that killed Prim. That's why she says goodbye. It actually becomes the end of their relationship. They never really keep in touch ever again.

Emmy

Gale defends coin a lot more in the book and changes his morals after the bombing of 12. Also the books are more brutal they couldn't show the violence in the movies.

Jakesleepwalker

Two sides of the same coin. Snow and Coin were essentially the same. Love y'alls analysis on that.

Zeroplue

There was a moment when gale was talking to beetey about a delayed explosion to draw more people in, this was overheard by katnis early in the movie. She remembered that and ask him was it him ? Because he came up with the plan that killed her sister. He says “i don’t know” but him and katnis know that deep down it definitely was his fault, thats why she tells him goodbye in the end.

I was gutted watching this one. I am glad you enjoyed the movies, and definitely well done. This was Philip Seymour Hoffman's last role. He died before it was released. Very sad. I saw these movies when they first came out. I remember Gale talking with the engineer guy (cant recall his name) when they were planning yhe bomb to attack the capitol, and I believe Gale designed the delay feature. I am sure he had true remorse about Prim getting killed and almost Katniss, but I do not believe he could have ever known he would kill Prim. Such is the way of weapons of mass destruction, they can't always be so precise to prevent accidents from happening such as kids running out in the path of the bomb after it has been deployed.

Lyn Hurst

A product of his environment. Suzanne Collins is so brilliant that she can highlight how this oppressive world creates peetas and Gale's. Gale's anger and feelings were valid, but his unchecked thinking led him to be no better. A literal war criminal now, for bombing aide workers and children... just a sad reality.

Nana-Afia

Love these reactions guys and love how much these films have touched you

Super Novice

Gale designed the 2-stage bomb that killed Prim. Gale was fire just like Katniss. But he couldn't reel it in. He justified any action just like Coin and Snow. Peta was water. Peter gave Katniss what no one else could. Thats why she loved Peta. He would do the right thing, always no matter the cost. I also agree that Jennifer Lawrence was incredible. She's an amazing actress. Also, I think the prequel is really good and adds a lot of depth to these stories so I am excited to see that with you. If you ever watch these again it will hit a bit differently after you watch the prequel. Lastly, I just want to say that these have been my favorite reactions so far. I really loved watching you guys react to this franchise. I loved seeing your thoughts and emotions for each turn in these films. This is easily my favorite reaction channel.

Farbod

Gale was directly involved in Prim's death as he invented the thing that killed her.

Josh

It was Gale's plan to lure the people to a safe place and bomb it. And then have a delayed bomb when help arrived. He discussed it earlier in the movie. It's why his storyline ended like it did. Obviously he didn't know it was going to be used, much less kill Prim in the process. But the guilt is there, as well as the perceived failure to protect Katniss's family. Katniss planned to take the poison pill herself after killing Coin. Peeta stopped her. In the first movie Katniss discussed with Gale that she would never have children. But in the end...

Golladan

I was drinking water at that point and almost chocked on it.

Golladan

the more I rewatch the more I despise Gale🤣bro was willing to kill thousands of children, was always speaking when he shouldn't, always was jealous and making snarky comments. Even before this film I hated the guy. Yes Gale was a good fighter but that doesn't excuse that he was a shit person. I love the way the franchise ended though, so fitting for them to finally have children when the games were over. Peeta and Katniss are perfect for eachother.

Owen Hargrave

It's 1am in madrid and i have to work in a few hours, so i blame you guys for keeping me awake this late hahahha was wainting for this reacting and i love it. Can't wait for the Stranger Things journey to begin, i'm sure you guys will love it

Loren

Is this game of thrones hahahahahaha

Nathan Cutter

I believe early in the film Gale suggested and gave the idea of the delayed bomb drops. He wasn't sure if it was his suggestion then that lead to them using it later which got prim killed.

Ryan W

God damn, such beautiful writing! I've always loved the movies but never read the books, I want to read them now!

Alex Ocean

It was always peeta, never gale. One of my favourite passages from the epilogue in the last book. "Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real."" I just love it so much because it ties all the antiwar themes together throughout the entire text

MODERATOR NOTE: If youv'e had syncing issues in the past, try to rent the movie from Vudu, as it has lined up perfectly with their reaction for me every film.
