Gladiator (2000) | Reaction & Review

Comments

Such a good movie with Mel Gibson (when he wasn't too cuckoo yet lol I still love his acting) and Heath Ledger :( RIP.

Lyn Hurst

Great reaction! Have you guys seen the phantom of the opera movie (2004)? It would be fun to see Spartan react to King Leonidas in a completely different role as the phantom. Is actually Gerard Butler's voice in all his songs as well. Would be an interesting addition to your reaction library.

Yes, incest was fairly common among royals and nobles throughout history. Game Of Thrones was inspired by historical events like the Wars Of The Roses in 1455.

The Film Effect

No way are people in this world who thinks 300 is close to gladiator. Is like comparing the Witcher with Game of Thrones

Victor Radoi

I think 300 and Gladiator are two very different movies. Even tho they both entail themes of war and glory, 300 is a full on action movie whereas Gladiator is more of a character drama. Both really good in their own way. Great reaction ❀️

Jan

we enjoyed it a lot, as for hype idk we felt pretty hyped, but it was story focused over spectacle which lends itself less to a hyped response on average id say. and yeah can see how many would prefer Gladiator but 300 is still our winner ❀️ both great films regardless

People totally sleep on Spartacus, never understood why! It's so GOOD

Robin Lee Melendez

Surprised you weren't more hyped about this one. General concensus is it's one of the best films ever made. It one the Oscar for bed picture the year it came out, and Russel Crowe won for best actor from gladiator. And I think it's fair to say the vast majority of people would not just say that it's better than 300, but way better than 300.

On the arena of shows more than movies...Given you love those types of stories I hope you get t check out the show Vikings one day...It's definitely right up your alley is an amazing story and I think you all would have amazing reactions for it

Lucas

the god damn shirt all movie, i cant haha https://imgur.com/a/sj0tqOo

Scrudge

We have impeccable timing with these things.... without even knowing πŸ˜…

CpaSpartan Pudgey

I love when spartan hates a character in a show or movie. Fucking hilarious.

FullMetal B

One thing you guys would enjoy is Olympus Has Fallen, starring your boy Leonidas (Gerard Butler)

Kevin DiSalvo

I think it would be so cool to see y’all react to the Patriot

Katie Thomas

Holy crap!... I just found out there's going to be a Gladiator 2 movie in late 2024!!! They're continuing this story with the nephew (grown up) and several other characters are returning. Can't wait!

DominaZeta

FYI: the Roman Empire lasted for about 2000 years and at its' height ruled over a massive chunk of the known world including most of Europe, North Africa, Anatolia and the Middle East. Subjects from any of these "provinces" outside of Rome proper could (and did) join the Roman army, so, yes a "Spaniard" could be in the Roman army. The events of this movie are loosely based on some historical facts with a LOT of fictionalized elements for drama, of course. :)

DominaZeta

I would say stellar work lads, I hate both characters with a burning passion. Literally millions of people jumped up in unison cheering and celebrating a child's death on TV. ::)

neutchain

hopefully many more!

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Fun fact: Jack Gleeson took inspiration from Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of Commodus for his portrayal of Joffrey Baratheon!

Emily P

First reaction in a fair while that was up my alley.

Hans Engelen

spartacus blood and sand might be the most underrated tv series of all time. everybody who makes it through the first two episodes loves it. Just a recommendation for the future as it is a mixture of Gladiator, Game of thrones and 300

Ismael

we do several times but it may have been in the uncut. i think in the discussion we do as well because we loved it

CpaSpartan Pudgey

I'm surprised you guys didn't comment on the music because this and Last Samurai were composed by Hans Zimmer.

Alex

oh shit! we didn't realise. that's cool

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Omg I was waiting for this!

maty

Have you guys watched Troy? if not its a very cool movie too

Chrisiyyi

You guys have to react to Mel Gibsons Bravehart !

Ur Dad

Richard Harris the actor that plays Marcus Aurelius is the original Dumbledore from the first two Harry Potter movies.

Ersin GΓΌnay

Gladiator is most def better than 300; one of the great films of my lifetime. But I understand if 300 has added nostalgia for you. Either way, this was a must watch for someone with the moniker β€œSpartan”.

BigTim86

The hate for quintus was really funny, personally I get why he did what he did, he's simply a soldier who follows orders no matter what, he was doing what his emperor told him to

Josh Ashford

Advice no. 1. Don't ever eat or drink near a TV/Computer when you're watching them. It can come out of absolutely nowhere and since they hired this editor it has gotten significantly more dangerous. They often say/do stuff that hits so hard its impossible to handle it in a civilized way but now with this editor ( great work btw 10/10 ) I flat out refuse to drink when they're on I just pause it, its much safer that way. :)

This is a great movie Russel Crowe ( and everyone in general ) was really good in it. Great cast, well written, beautifully acted. 10/10 Great reaction guys, enjoyed it a lot a usual. The editor is killing it, complimenting your style really well. You guys should consider watching Master and Commander. Another Russel Crowe movie, by his admission in an interview last year, one of his favorite. It went under the radar sadly due coming out ibn 2003, same year as The Return of the King ( LotR ) so it was obviously overshadowed by that giant of a movie. He plays a Royal Navy ship captain during the Napoleonic Wars. Gorgeous camerawork, outstanding story, music and great acting. I reckon you guys would enjoy it, its a beautiful movie with great attention to detail its a must-watch if you enjoy this genre. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311113/

The Last Kingdom too.

Jaroslav Dočekal

Not Spartan finding out incest was a real thing among ancient nobility πŸ˜‚

This is one of my favorite movies. Excellent story telling, character development, acting. Despite how creepy Joaquin Phoenix's character was (Comodus), he did a great job. His sister wasn't in to him, but after he killed their father she let him get away with more for her son's sake. I thought Russell Crowe was really good in this movie. I just love that the Gladiator was the savior of the people through his honor, and I was impressed by his heroic nature and calm but courageous mannerisms especially when he did not give Comudus the satisfaction of killing him when he asked him to the first time.

Lyn Hurst

Let's Go. A charismatic general. A father. A husband. A man seeking vengeance.

Joe

After seeing you guys react to this, I can't help wishing y'all could watch the Spartacus series, I know for a fact spartan will fall in love and hate just like he did in game of thrones all over again. That show was ahead of its time.
