I paid 6 quid for this ?

Why is there no sound

Yeah not sure how everyone misses the lovers thing. The homophobic comments, Gus absolutely losing it when Max dies, funding his education... if Max were female, it'd be really really really obvious.

Shannon Bey

Hahahahah yessss!!!

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Gus Fring is easily one of the greatest TV characters of all time. The more the audience learns about him, the more intriguing he becomes. Great reaction as usual, guys!

Robin Lee Melendez

we know we just like calling him that haha

CpaSpartan Pudgey

thanks for explaining that!

CpaSpartan Pudgey

thanks for clearing that up

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Gus warned Hank, that’s not a theory and it’s also not a spoiler, they’ve basically already told you this a couple times in the show without directly saying it. Walt even explained to the audience why it would make sense for Gus to warn Hank, in the scene where he says “in one swift blow you bloodied both sides” or something to that effect. Gus did it to ensure that one or both of the twins would die, bc as you see in this episode he clearly has a vendetta against Hector’s family (that’s Tio btw). Gus and Max were lovers. just bc they picked a catchy name like “the chicken brothers” in Spanish for their Mexican themed restaurant, doesn’t mean they’re actually brothers. They make that clear in the scene by the pool, you guys just missed it. Not just Hector but even Don Eladio hints at it, all of them were looking down on the couple bc they knew they were more than just business partners.

Jonny Rey

Hopefully they do not. They should absolutely watch a different show before BCS. A palette cleanser.

Shawn Brink

Good post I think this is the correct theory. They writers ultimately keep it a mystery, but Gus being a general under the Chilean dictator Pinochet is the best theory as to who he was in the past, in my opinion.

Charlie Kelly

2 things: You read the first scene between Gus & Hector wrong. Gus was one who made the phone call to warn Hank. He was keeping it kind of cryptic with Hector and didn't say it outright, but Hector knew exactly what he meant when he said it.... he was basically telling Hector your nephews would still be alive if it wasn't for me giving them permission to kill Hank then sabotaging them by placing a warning call. Blood for blood for you killing Max. #2 They show the whole ordeal that leads to Hector being unable to walk or talk in the prequel show "Better Call Saul" you'll have to watch that to find out what happens. I suggest you all watch it even if you don't react to it. It's an incredible show in it's own right but the first 2 seasons or so start out slow compared to Breaking Bad.

Charlie Kelly

Also I love the transition from Walt talking about how he never gives up control in his life to him working in Gus' lab under surveillance with zero control

Munir

I was cracking up that she was talking about the food lol

Tae Kellz

You guys have to watch Better Call Saul after you finish breaking bad. Its a prequel to BB and really get to know more about some of the characters. Its very slow paced though even compared to BB

AlrightThere

Btw it's Chee-lay not Chilli

Ersin Günay

TIO IS NOT A NAME. Lol. People have said this in other reactions as well back when Hector was first introduced in season 1 lol

Tae Kellz

Now while I understand your frustration you have to remember that since HOTD/GoT days their channel has grown a lot both in terms of people commenting as well as the amount of shows and series they are covering, with a lot more discussion happening on Patreon, YouTube and Discord. So it's more difficult to keep up with all the audience interaction. Not to mention they have to be extra careful reading comments to avoid getting spoiled. Especially on platforms like Patreon where moderators can't even remove spoiling comments as far as I know. Honestly, if you want more interaction you should join Discord and write there. It's a great program, and much better suited to any type of discussion than Patreon for example. It's free and easy to use so I don't really understand the fairness argument.

*Whispers “They were roommates”

honestly i think its better

"I just don't know who POSSIBLY could have placed that call Hector, whoever it was got your nephew killed, its so swaaaaad. Then somehow Bolsa got killed. Oh no, what a tragedy!" :D

The full-length episode 7 was posted 4 days ago (according to the Patreon notation, it might differ by timezone). They have not posted an edited 7 yet.

Richard Flores

Why do S&P keep pursuing a debate about the 'mystery caller' when it has already been established that Gus orchestrated it? His lying to Hector about it is just caution, Hector can read between the lines.

Hari Randhawa

Gus is clearly already in the drug game before the meeting. So by definition, he has already broken bad.

Hari Randhawa

where's episode 7?

HeauxHalter

Gus and Max weren't brothers or good friends, they were lovers. Hence Hector making fun of their homosexuality when he's pissing in the pool. As others have said, Gus has been referred to as "Generalissimo" and an important person in Chile during Pinochet's regime. He was likely a gifted Chilean intelligence officer who climbed through the ranks under Pinochet. This is in line with his careful decision-making and tactics like wanting to keep his war with the cartel "cold for now." Gus somehow continues to get more intimidating and intriguing throughout the series.

Jared

If I'm Gus, I would've just told Hank, Gale and I were lovers.. Guaranteed that backs a guy like Hank off a little bit 😁

PastaDon

Who was Gus? In the season 3 episode “One Minute” we see the twins fighting over a toy while Hector is on the phone talking to someone (Bolsa maybe) giving his low opinion of a third party, “Big man, big generalissimo, big fry cook is more like it…The chicken man.” In his interview with Hank and the DEA, Gus mentions the Pinochet regime’s human rights abuses as well as poor record keeping. Perhaps he was closer to that regime than he wants to let on.

Greg Nelson

You guys shouldn't take Gus so literally, Hector knew exactly what he meant. "Juan Bolsa may have some insight" = "He knew it was me" "In the confusion, he was shot" = "I got to him first" It was no coincidence that Mike pulled up. Hank chose Walt because he wanted someone no one would pay attention to. He had no clue he picked the worst possible candidate. Gus hates Hector the most because he's the one who pulled the trigger on Max. Gus cared about him a lot, they must've been roommates or something.

Munir

Great episode. Gus does have a reason to taunt Hector. His business partner, Max was killed by Hector. Also Gus had paid for Max to go to university. In addition because of Max and in his honor, Gus put up a scholarship for the 3 dozen students (which Gale was one) to get chemistry degrees. It would seem they are making more than chicken since he did not send his proteges to culinary school. Getting deep now with all the characters. I noticed Walt looked scared out of his mind in the scene in Los Pollos where he went in to tell Gus he didn't put the tracker on his car. Walt is showing he is truly afraid of Gus. I am guessing the box cutter episode made him more aware of the lengths Gus will go. I believe Gus broke bad after his partner/friend was killed.

Lyn Hurst

Lmaoo most probably

HDN

If you want more backstory for these characters then you'll love Better Call Saul. It's easily on the same level of writing as Breaking Bad

Pogger White

It was Gus that placed the call to Hank, or at least one of Gus's men. He wanted a shootout and noise, but he couldn't tell Hector that because Hector could report it to the cartel so he has to play innocent but him saying "this is what comes of blood for blood, Hector" is all but confirming it was him. Also Saul's bodyguard Huell is played by Lovell Crawford, an absolutely hilarious comedian

Pogger White

You want more backstory? Better call saul!

Pablo

Definitely a point worth mentioning. I've seen the show a million times, but for someone watching for the first time, it's pretty much impossible to pick up on as the interrogation scene is so engrossing :)

Mike Miner

Gus originally accepted Walt's request to work with Jesse because Walt told him "he's my partner & I trust him". He knew what it felt like to lose a trusted partner. What's really weird in this episode is Gus doesn't address Walt by his name at Los Pollos when he shows him the bug even though Hank, the rest of Walt's family and some of the dea are already aware that he knows who Walt is. Also Hank is being extremely inconsiderate to Walt by planting the bug & getting him involved with a high level drug dealer. It could come back to hurt Walt or his family. Hank is a "bad cop" and he does break bad

Justin

Loved this episode. The backstory scene in particular. Anyway, I took Gus telling Hector (Tio) about Hank getting the phone call was a clear indication that Gus was behind the phone call.

James Woodford

At the beginning of the episode, in the interrogation scene, Gus said that he had established a scholarship in honor of his friend who died young, Max. It was Max who was killed by Hector in the final scene, which incidentally takes place in 1989. And the reason he was killed was for disrespecting the Cartel and making drugs without permission.

Jackhammer

maybe ur comments just suck lmao

Hekz

Hey guys, I’ve been a patreon subscriber since the end of HOTD, you guys were my first ever subscription (and are the only reaction channel I watch) and I have to say I’m kind of disappointed tbh, not because Pudgey doesn’t agree with me, nor because she is vocal about her opinion. It’s not that at all. First of all, it's that many of us have been commenting on this particular issue, like in S4E4 when the vast majority of comments was about this (including me, I wrote a big ass argumentative comment lmao) and they just didn’t respond to anyone or address the issue. And I definitely don’t expect them to reply to every person, but there used to be more interaction. Now, I’m sure they read some or most of the comments since they heart many of them, but these comments go as if it's not even there. In the past they used to either respond to one of them, or if the majority is talking about the same thing they could address it in the intro. And I held back at first, said maybe these were recorded before the debates started, but turns out they just decided to ignore. I'd like to give an example to make myself clear so no one says I just want her to adopt all my opinions. Spartan and I were on 2 extremes in our view of Cersei (and still are, according to his instagram story yesterday lmao), I worship her and he hated the absolute shit out of her, but I never had any problem with his very assertive opinions, I actually enjoyed them, because he gave us more than enough respect in discussing this in intros/outros. I mean who doesn’t remember all the debates about how their thought process when they evaluate characters like Tywin, Cersei, Catelynn, Daenerys, etc. These were the best parts of the discussion, even to people who disagreed with S&P. Also, which is what makes it worse, S&P hearted (liked) one comment that said "Pudgey is used to heat, she’ll be fine", like whaaatt? When did debate become like some heated attack that Spartan or Pudgey has to "overcome" (I'm 10000% sure Sudden didn't mean anything bad, it just came out wrong. love u Sudden xoxo). I wrote a big comment on that post and it was literally to have a discussion, not with me, but at least to show some connection to the audience by including this topic in the intro, which you used to always do. This is not about showing strength and resilience and holding your ground against the "attack", it’s about interacting in any way or form with your own audience. Again, this is not about Pudgey, nor it is about any one of us in particular (including me), and it’s not one person who's commenting about it, it’s the majority from what it seems, or at least a big chunk, and there’s an actual debate on every episode, so why not engage I don't get it. And I'm completely sure that the ones who commented do not hate Pudgey nor are they giving her "heat". They literally pay money to watch them, which means they love her and love watching her. I don't even remember seeing a rude comment from anyone, just people disagreeing with her and interested in their thought process. And completely ignoring it or making it seem like "haters gonna hate" is kind of disappointing. Someone also wrote something like "ignore toxic comments" I mean wtf, whatever happened to discussion??? So yeah, I genuinely did not expect interaction to become this minimal. It's almost like purchasing a CD and watching it alone at home. They may be thinking that the interactions are happening in the discord channel, but this is not fair to people who do not use discord, i mean in the end people are subscribed to patreon/youtube, not to discord. Just an opinion, hope I don’t offend anyone.
