Series pilot Jesse Pinkman - "Nah, come on, man. Some straight like you, giant stick up his ass all a sudden at age, what, 60, he's just gonna break bad?'

Joseph Collier

yes from innocent chemistry teacher to drug manufacturer...pretty much breaking bad.

Veli-Jussi Hirvonen

exactly what i was thinking very strange reaction by Pudgey...I would've responded same way as that lady but well... chalk it up to clean living and vitamin pills.

Veli-Jussi Hirvonen

I kinda hate how this episode begins with Jesse doing a commercial for that shooting game. This is the best show I've ever seen, but even it has it's moments of low integrity.

Joe

The food platter Gus always brings is a symbol for life- Gus is the giver & taker of life. No one ever eats from it it’s just symbolism. Like at his food chain, he gives life

Justin

On a lighter note, pretty funny Jesse is bringing a party sized veggie platter to a meeting with meth distributors.

Lyn Hurst

"Detective Pudgey." Love it

David Cansler

Breaking bad= turning to the dark , illegal side..... you been good all your life... law abiding and then you say fuck it and turn to the bad side....that's basically what it means....remember in the first episode Jess asked Walter " You're like what 60 and now all of a sudden your gonna break bad ??? :)

Corbyndallas

Some toxic comments creeping in here. I love this show and I enjoy people’s reaction to watching it for the first time. Try not to be so insulting with the comments and don’t talk about future episodes as it is just rude and ignorant.

Rob Brown

I haven't watched this show since it aired and loving rewatching with you guys. Like, I know what's going to happen but I've forgotten all the juicy, scandalous details. All the actors are so good and the story telling is top notch. Keep up the good work!

Malorie

Walt is a wanker. I'm baffled by the defence he gets. Also, full stops.

AdrianF

Pudgey's reaction to the woman getting angry at the therapy session was strange. From her point of view, Jesse is admitting to killing an innocent dog for no reason. Who wouldn't get angry or at least question that? She even gives him the benefit of the doubt by assuming he has good intentions twice over. She clearly doesn't understand the context like the audience does.

Hari Randhawa

Absolutely. You can also add the Jane arc to this. Without Walt's 'intervention', Jesse would have probably overdosed at some point.

Hari Randhawa

Why is genius in quotations? I think it's quite clear that when it comes to chemistry, he is a genius. Being a genius doesn't mean you don't have shortcomings. Especially in the EQ department.

I Don't understand where this notion of "Walt has made Jesse do all these bad things" came from. Jesse was already in the meth business when they met. the reason he had to kill Gale was that Jesse went to kill those two dealers who killed the child(perhaps on Gus's orders) and Walt literally had to save his life by running over the dudes who were about to shoot and kill Jesse. Then Gus was about to kill both him and Walt and Jesse had to kill Gale to save their own lives, his own alongside Walt's. they were in this mess because of the things Jesse did. he would have been dead a long time ago without Walt. Walt didn't have to save him or intervene. he could have let them kill him but he didn't. now none of these people, Walt included are decent humans so I am not arguing Walt is a nice person but I do not want it to get lost that he def is the sole reason Jesse is still breathing and has put his life at risk multiple times to save jesse when he didn't have to.

Leroy

Walt couldn't kill gale he was being held hostage but he was going to do that and he killed crazy8 a nd saved Jessie from the two drug dealers. So you really can't say "Walt doesn't do it".

Alex

The term "Breaking Bad" means...To go wrong; to go downhill (colloquial, of an event or of one's fortunes) To go wrong; to go downhill. [ from 1908] quotations ▼ (colloquial, especially Southern US and Midwestern US, of a person) To go bad; to turn toward immorality or crime.

Jeff Pawlinski

In the very first episode of the series Jesse says to Walt “some straight like you, giant stick up his ass all of a sudden at age what, 60, he’s just gonna break bad?” So the title is explained from the get go. It’s an expression, basically referring to entering a life of crime or finally deciding to stop playing by the rules.

Jonny Rey

Also adjusting for inflation, since this is set in 2008, its probably double that.

Pablo

$7.5m USD = ~$11.3m AUD. Post episode discussion was elite. Pudgey might've gotten into some of that heisenberg crystal.

Jared

It’s called Breaking Bad (not spoilerey at all) because Jesse asks Walter in season 1 about why he’s this steady teacher, staight laced guy and then one day he just breaks bad and wonders why he wants to cook meth. Breaking bad meaning to start breaking the law/doing bad things basically.

Jamiefishing7

Spartan and Pudgey, great on connecting the different people all stemming from Walt in the middle. Skyler was correct in 4x6 about Walt being in over his head. Not so sure he actually wants to get caught though. However, for someone so "genius" he sure has made some critical slips of the tongue. I was surprised Walt didn't go off on Saul when he suggested that he should ask Jesse to talk to Gus. Once again Walt is not the big man. Between Walt and Gus, Gus is so much more composed than Walt. Both are very intelligent but have their weaknesses. I do love that problem dog speech from Jesse. Such good acting by Aaron Paul.

Lyn Hurst

this show is about to explode

Pablo

Good point on the manslaughter vs murder.

Lyn Hurst

Jesse's problem dog speech could be his best acted scene in the whole series. It definitely trumps his hospital mental breakdown in 0307. I thought the acting was inferior to this scene but it mostly had to do with the situation he was in as a character. He was being irrational and emotional in the hospital and not thinking clearly the show confirms this by immediately showing a mood chart next to him and then later he changes his mind. It's weird what societies or groups deem "acceptable" after times passed especially. It feels relatable and grounded. Jesse did cross a line bringing up his daughter though. Plus that was a manslaughter case not a murder case....
