Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix | UNCUT Reaction

Comments

Lily Potter is a muggleborn witch (like Hermione), but muggleborns are called mudbloods as an insult

Val Stewart

Catching up! I hope to get to your final reaction in real time. You've both been so enjoyable so far and come to some spot-on conclusions. I 🤍 Spardgy!

JIM SCHMITZ

when is the next uncut released for Super Soldier tier?

The first time that I read the chapter in the Order of the Phoenix where Dolores Umbridge gives Harry her “special pen” to use in detention I actually became physically ill. I have never had such a strong visceral reaction to reading a book as I did to that. And I have read the book in the Game of Thrones series (ASOIAF series) that contains the Red Wedding. It is made much clearer in the books that Dolores’ pen doesn’t just carve the words into Harry’s skin. It uses his blood as the ink on the paper. That may seem obvious. But the specific explanation of his blood as ink adds to the horror of what Dolores is doing to students. The book explains the Department of Mysteries and the mystery of the Veil in the Archway with a level of detail that a movie just couldn’t get into. But you would understand it much better if you read the book. When I see the way you two enjoy all the new magic and magical items and creatures that each new movie introduces, I think about how much more the books would enhance all that. A basic explanation of the Veil that Sirius disappears through is that it is a physical representation of the veil between life and death. The way that it is set up in the books is that this ancient archway is in the Department of Mysteries specifically so that the department can study the mystery of the passage between life and death. The Department of Mysteries in the book is full of all sorts of interesting objects and artifacts they are studying. It is implied that the mysteries they are studying include time, love and death. The Order of the Phoenix book also goes into the various members of the Order much more too. I don’t think the movies ever mention that Tonks is also a cousin of Sirius. The movie shows Tonks stumble once in the hallway of the headquarters for the Order. But the books go into how clumsy she is, as well as a lot more information about her family and her unique abilities. That is just one example of the different members of the Order that the books delve into. You also get a lot more information about the House of Black, both the physical house and the family history. And Harry’s lessons with Snape get a lot more detail. That includes the type of magic Snape is trying to teach Harry, more about Harry and Snape’s memories, and details about the connection between Harry and the Dark Lord. In short, the story is just so much richer if you add the books to the movies. I am going to continue to suggest that you consider listening to the Audiobooks. I’m sure a large number of your Patreons would love to participate in live chats to discuss the differences between the books and the movies.

Blackeyedlily

Love that you picked up on the casual disrespect of Dumbledore calling Voldemort, 'Tom'.

Mzuka

Yes me too, I am keeping my hopes up that it comes out any time now...

Tx28

Please upload hp6 today. Can't wait.

Hira Memon

Also harry tried to use crucio on bellatrix at the end after killing black. Thought that was so badass

Jordannnnn

Patiently waits for next upload 😭😭😭😭

Jordannnnn

9/10. This Movie was the biggest improvement over the book in entire series.

DrückebergerTV

Lord voldemort might be the villain, but umbridge is the one you hate most

Sofie Hansen

It would be cool to see a hogwarts legacy playthrough by Pudgey after you finish all the movies

sirboss__

As malfoy would call them both “mudbloods”

Chen Edri

Lily wasn’t a muggle both her parents were but she was born a witch just like hermione

Chen Edri

Lily wasn't a Muggle, she was a witch. But part of the pureblood supremacy is a kind of denial or delegitimization of Muggleborn witches and wizards. Voldemort calling Lily a "Muggle" is akin to a racist calling someone of mixed descent the n-word, where they view someone without magical ancestry as an outsider. Even if Hermione were to get married to a wizard and have wizard children, to those people, she would always be a Muggle, and her children would be half-bloods. This blood purity extends to species as well. While Voldemort's movement is more concerned with the purity of wizarding blood in humans, there is a lot of "speciesism" in wizard society, which we see when Umbridge is measuring Professor Flitwick (who is half-goblin), and is instantly trying to push out Hagrid, who is half-giant. Part of the justification for Ministry involvement in Hogwarts in the book was that Dumbledore hired a werewolf (Lupin). So in short, Harry is a half-blood, with two magical grandparents on his father's side, and two Muggle grandparents on his mother's side. The Potters are an old Wizarding family, which is also where Harry got all the gold in his vault in the first movie. Ron's a complete pureblood, though his family are considered "blood traitors" by the Death Eaters and their sympathizers, for being associated with Muggleborns and half-breeds. Lastly, the arch with the veil is somewhat of a mystery, hence the name "Department of Mysteries". You caught on that Hermione and the others couldn't see the souls or hear the voices because they haven't seen death. The veil represents the death. Sirius disappears like a soul because he falls through the veil into "the other side". As always, great reactions! These later movies have to cut out big chunks of the book, streamlining certain stories, and a lot of the details can really fly over people's heads their first time watching, so the fact that you pretty much always pick up on everything in the movies is impressive!

Josh Lopater

Pirates, please!

Bartosz Kas

Will you watch pirate of the caribbean after harry potter or maybe hunger games movies ?

Erdanxela

"Nice one James!" Is probably the best line in all of these movies, makes me tear up in a happy way always.

Pablo

also the reason bellatrix calls harry a half blood. becuase lilly is muggle born.

Megan Burland

I cannot believe no one in the comments has brought up the iconic Dumbledore line to Voldemort.

HDN

Lily and Hermione are muggle born. As explained in the chamber of secret, Mudblood is like a really offensive term used by pure-bloods like Malfoys and other weird wizards like Voldermort (who is half-blood) to indicate they're filthy blood and that they stole magic from wizards. Essentiall Hitler-Aryan stuff

Ammaar Ahmed

Lads Umbridge was just doing that (movie skipped it, but she sent the Dementors after Harry, so that he'd get expelled). She was just a nasty person in power, delusional that they are right and everyone else is wrong, fools or out to get them.

Ammaar Ahmed

Pudgey Spartan was right - she was going to cruciate Harry (unforgiveable)

Ammaar Ahmed

the portal is just one of those things the movies don't explain that the books do - sirius is dead lads. He's dead

Ammaar Ahmed

everytime i re-watch these movies, all i can think about is just how better the books were damn \(i know ppl say alot)

Ammaar Ahmed

You guys are still confused on the school timeline lmao. He goes home to the Dursley's every summer in the UK (June - August), and then school starts in September. So winter holiday (December - January) comes around every single year around the beginning but more towards the middle of the school year. When they break for winter holiday, it's only been a few months into the new school year.

TallTyrionLannister

It isn’t ever addressed in the movies but there are four categories of blood types. 1. Pure blood. Pretty self explanatory, a lot of these families resort to marrying cousins etc because there aren’t many people who are pure blood. Bellatrix for example isn’t only Sirius’ cousin for example, she’s both Draco and Tonks’ aunt too. 2. Half-Blood One parent is a wizard and the other either isn’t or is muggleborn like Hermione. This is what most characters lie under. 3. Muggleborn Neither parent was a witch/wizard. This happens when someone decently far back in the family (minimum a couple generations) was either a witch/wizard who had children with a muggle and the child didn’t have the “magic” gene. It’s almost like recessive/dominate genes. So the child has magic in their blood but it won’t ever activate because they don’t have the gene. This gene then passes down the line and occasionally the gene appears. Hence Hermione being a witch but coming from a muggle family. 4. Squib (this one never gets brought up in the movies but it’s a good one to know). This is basically the opposite of muggleborn. It’s very uncommon but it’s when a non magic child comes from a witch and wizard as parents. Those who are often get cast out of their families and have no choice but to live as muggles, the ones who don’t can live in the magical world but they’ll never be able to do magic themselves.

Ellie Renwick

I hadn't rewatched this one in a while! Never realized how many montages there are lol. To be fair, even in the books, though he receives the killing curse, the whole archway veil thing Sirius falls in confused me too. Really looking forward to the next one!

Lise

The school year starts in September and ends in summer that’s why Christmas always comes really fast, its because its only a few months away when they go to school

Melinda

Lilly was a witch, born from muggle parents. She was just like Hermione.

Ludwvin Martinez

but also we know that the Minister was lenient last time, especially with thr Sirius Black stuff, but in this movie, he has an agenda

Ammaar Ahmed

Igor Didn’t Put Harry’s Name Into The Goblet, The Fake Mad Eye Moody Did

Fabian

YES! I'm so happy you're at book/movie 5! I'm so excited for the next!

Thomas Jefferson Reyes

The Unforgiveable Curses are Cruciatus, Imperius and Avada Kedavra. Crucio (Cruciatus) is the torture curse which is what Umbridge was going to use on Harry. Its also what was used on the spider in the last movie and Neville's parents. Imperio (Imperius) is the mind controll spell. Avada Kedavra is the killing curse which Voldemort used on Cedric.

Valcor

I loved Spartan and Pudgeys hatred of Umbridge lol she's horrible. Also Luna is one my favourite characters she is so pure and quirky. Cannot wait for the next movie Spartan is going to love it and it's when shit gets serious.

Valcor

Yes I love Luna because she's so so weird but also pure.

Valcor

I never saw Reactors be so hopeful when characters die. Like you are always in denial😂. For example happened with Ned, Mechamaru and now Sirius

Rey Jr

Same lol

Simon

Luna, my favorite, she's so weird and adorable

Cs Zoltan

Great reaction guys, don't worry about getting confused with all the lore that is something you can look into after if you are interested. It is kind of funny Spartan has played the game before watching the movies so it's cool seeing him react like "I've seen that!" So hyped to watch the next 3 with you but especially the last one. I am so curious to see your reactions and who your favourites are by the end of the series. Loved the constant clips of "unforgiveable curses" you put in there it was so funny.

Nicole Herd

Can't wait for the next 3! this one and all the next are my favs <3

Ghostcat

I don’t know if either or both of you are readers. If so, after you finish the movies, you should read the books. They are full of details, explanations, and subplots that don’t make it to the movies. I love the movies, but the books are so much richer and complete. Things will make much more sense as you read through the series.

Michael Weiner

The Instagram story makes so much since now, lmao

Sully

Technically this is a spoiler

Invisigoth99

Harry's mom is a witch, Voldemort just has a strong belief that people who are muggleborn (so Lily's parents being muggles) and also muggles themselves. Because he is all about the pure bloods. So in Voldemorts eyes, you're either a pure blood (you and both your parents are magical) or you're a muggle, there's no in-between.

A.D

Looking forward to this! Spartan, Harry "got away" with blowing up his aunt because he lost control of his emotions and it was uncontrolled, accidental magic, whereas the Patronus charm he cast was deliberate.

Oslo

Bro I literally count down everyday until the next Sunday to get the next movie! I rewatch these a couple times in the meantime lol

Alex Ocean

In high school, we had a teacher we nicknamed Umbridge because they were almost exactly alike. She’s worse than Voldemort. He cared about Harry’s education and always attacked after exam season. Actress was perfect though.

K

In the books, Harry was always sassy, Ron was more clever than the movies gave him credit for (kind of Sokka like), and Hermione was unhinged. She was so excited to be breaking rules here. At the end of book 4, she literally trapped a woman, who was able to turn into a beetle, in a jar. She was perfectly willing to break rules when it suited her. Harry always had a sassy mouth, and they had to start showing it because the fifth book wouldn’t let them get away with him being meek. Puberty hit him hard with the teen angst. He was always snarking back at Dudley, even when he was young.

K

love it! ❤️ haha

CpaSpartan Pudgey

you guys should go on the Pottermore website and see what houses, wands, and patronus you guys are and do a reaction!

justdrew

Spartan is correct about all the terminology. It’s Voldemort’s fault for all the confusion. In the last movie he tells Harry “Your parents would be proud, especially your filthy muggle mother.” But she’s not a muggle.

imperial

The duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort is one of my favorite fights anywhere. Right up there with the last agni kai.

Daniel Castro

Lily is like Hermione in the sense that she is a witch that was born into a muggle family, hence the title “muggle-born”, or the derogatory term “mud-blood”. Muggles are people just like you and me haha. Loved the reaction as always!!

Lily

Looks like you are finally getting invested in the series. hopefully by the end it will be beloved

Merissa Childress

just for the record lol, in the books james wasn't a bully. he & snape had a mutual rivalry, and james only disliked him because of snape being against muggleborns. snape was really awful in the books, allan rickman is just really likeable lol. we also have to consider we saw the memory from snapes perspective

shoniswife_

You misunderstood. Lily was a muggle-born witch; she wasn't a muggle

Vanessa Navarro

Lily was like Hermione in that she had two muggle parents but was herself a witch. Your confusion is coming from the fact that Voldemort calls Lily a "filthy muggle" in Goblet of Fire, which he does as a racist exaggeration. She would be more commonly called a mud-blood because of her mixed ancestry--though as Hagrid points out in Chamber of Secrets, the truth is that everyone's mixed blood to some extent at this point. Even Voldemort's father is a muggle (not a spoiler), so his prejudice seems to come in part from his resentment of his own family and maybe even himself.

xandre

The one thing Harry Potter fans everywhere can agree on is our absolute hatred for Umbridge lol.

Ailene Evangelista

LOL at the edit of "unforgivable" popping up at the end like 5 times. I know Pudgey's not letting Spartan forget that one!

Ailene Evangelista

I'm so glad you enjoyed Order of the Phoenix. Aside from the last two movies (Deathly Hallows), this is probably my favorite movie. Despite being the biggest book, I thought this adaptation captured the spirit of the book really well and the tone was just right. Dumbledore's Army, Harry's isolation, the epic fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort, plus seeing more of Harry and Sirius' relationship before its so tragically taken from him and us :( Also the introduction to Luna, my girl who I love so much!

Ailene Evangelista

Muggleborn: Hermione, Lily (come from a family whose immediate family were not witches or wizards) Mudblood is derogatory term for a muggleborn.

Ailene Evangelista

Great Reaction! Here are some interesting tidbits! Mr. Weasley's obsession with muggle technology is a big part of the books. Like most wizards and witches who grew up firmly in the wizarding world--like the whole Weasley family--muggle technology almost seems like its own kind of magic to them! There are several funny scenes in the books where the Weasleys try contacting Harry by telephone while he's at the Dursley's, with disatrous results. Mr Weasley also works in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts department at the ministry, where they work with very fascinating items, such as spark plugs lol. Harry could not have ratted out Lucius Malfoy, as no one believed him about the events in the graveyard at the time. Each movie is one school year (September-June), except for technically the last two films, which cover one year/one book in two parts. So, they go to school for a few months, go home for a few weeks at Christmas, then return to Hogwarts until summer break. Harry's summer breaks are the only parts that we don't really see, as he spends them at the Dursley's and they are (mostly) uneventful. Fun Fact: the Harry Potter series takes place between 1991 (when Harry turned 11) and 1998; He's 15 in this one, 16 in the next, and 17 for the last two. For example, this is Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts, which begins in Late August/Early September of 1995 and ends in June of 1996. Movie 6 goes from 1996-1997. This means Harry was born in 1980 (on July 31st, so his age changes off screen during the summers between movies)! Sirius ran away because he came from a bad family who were very sympathetic to the very same ideals that Voldemort follows, regarding pure-blood status and such. That is why Kreacher has such negative views of Muggle-Borns, etc. Also, Muggles and Muggle-borns are massively different: muggles are normal people--like us haha--and muggle-borns are full wizards and witches who have muggle parents. Muggle-Borns are looked down upon by people like Voldemort and the Malfoys. Harry is a half-blood; his mother was in fact a witch, but she was a muggle-born like Hermione, and so the villains often refer to her as a muggle; it is meant to be derogatory, but is simply untrue. You're right: Hermione, Ron, and Ginny could not see the Thestrals they were riding. Harry, Luna, and Neville (who saw his grandfather die and thus could see them) had to help them climb on. Sirius was hit by an unknown spell that knocked him backward into the veil; the veil acts as a barrier between the worlds of the living and the dead; you cannot move freely between these places, and so once Sirius fell through, he could not return. The movie shows him get hit by Avada Kedavra--the Killing (Unforgivable, lol) curse, probably mostly for dramatic effect lol. James did bully Snape to some degree, but as its been mentioned by others, there is good context for this that the movie does not include. Still, bullying is not cool; however, James was a kid at the time, and kids make mistakes, then mature. And yet, JK Rowling wrote the story in such a way that shows that our actions can have unforseen consequences; for example, James never could have known that his bullying of Snape would lead to Snape then mistreating James's own son as a teacher a few years down the road. But it did. Again, great reaction! The war is coming..

Neville L

No harry is a half blood because his father was full blood with magic parents, but his mother, like hermione, was a mudblood with muggle parents, so harry is in fact half blood.

Gemineye

People actually watched that? Lmfao

Gemineye

these Harry Potter reactions make my day!! thank you guys it's so fun to go on this journey with you

Madison

Corey Nixon

Sirius was hit by the Killing Curse before falling through the veil. Dumbledore told Harry at the end of the 4th movie that there was no way to bring the dead back to life.

Golladan

She’s “muggleborn” not a muggle

JonSnow21

Overall I found that Dumbledore was portrayed as an older man losing his strength since Gambon took over in the third movie.

Golladan

Amazing reaction guys❤️! But I am afraid Sirius is gone , Once avada Kedavra is casted aka the killing curse there’s no chance of coming back to life , Harry is the only person to ever survive it and also Daniel Radcliffe’s screams were so realistic that it made Emma Watson and bellatrix’s actress cry in real life so they decided to mute it which I thought was a good choice and also Dumbledore and Voldermort are the most powerful wizards of all time and dumbledore is number 1 . So excited for Half Blood prince which is honestly even better imo .

JonSnow21

The distinctions dont really matter to Voldemort's followers which is why the label of mudblood is tricky. Voldemort's followers call almost everyone outside their following mudbloods whether they are or not. (Plus lets not forget there are no purebloods anymore anyway. Voldemort is technically a mudblood as well)

Garrett Serbin

We'll get the muggle terminology down eventually. 😂

Dan Marsh

Harry has one "Muggleborn" mother, and Pure blood father. For some reason, the terms aren't consistent -> technically he has two magical parents but because one is descended from muggles, he is sometimes called Half blood, rather than "pure". Hermione is muggleborn, Ron is "pureblood". Sometimes less than nice people consider muggle borns "mudbloods" and sometimes call them "muggles" in the film implying they don't have any magic which isn't true.

Rainbow

Harry's mother Lily is not a muggle, she is not full human. She was a witch but both of her parents were muggles, just like Hermione.

Emmy

If you are wondering why doesn't Voldemort just send killing curses at Dumbledore -> the answer is he does and they teleport around fighting at first and Dumbledore animates the great statues in the Ministry to jump in the way of killing curses as well as fighting similar to the film (but without the laser beam wand connection which only Harry should be able to do given they have brother wands)

Rainbow

AND it was Professor Umbridge who sent the dementors at the beginning, not Voldemort. She does it to frame Harry without telling the Minister.

Rainbow

You guys are reaction to the reunion after seeing all the Harry Potter movies, yes?

Inger Lise

I am a stats and data science instructor, and one of the datasets I use in one of my lessons is a dataset where people have rated hundreds of characters from various fictional universes on various personality traits, and one of the measures is how loveable vs punchable a character is (along a spectrum), and the top most "punchable" characters are Joffrey Baratheon and Dolores Umbridge 😂. And, in case you are wondering, the top most loveable character is uncle Iroh 😊!

M. Miel

So much emotion in this one ! Love the reaction guys. One note about Dumbledore vs Voldemort as I know you guys love our man Dumbledore. In the book the duel is much more in Dumbledores favour, he outsmarts Voldemort, uses some interesting spells and Voldemort is basically forced to disapparate (teleport) away and then possess Harry. Dumbledore even has a little moment where he explains there are worse things than death to Voldy. Whilst I think the film handled it ok, it seemed they were making Dumbledore look a little overwhelmed and weak. Which wasn’t the case in the books. the book really showed why Voldemort fears Dumbledore.

Super Novice

favourite HP movie by far - had a feeling you guys would love this one. Already sad for this journey to be over lol

Jess

Christmas is in summer for Australia, maybe that’s adding to the confusion

Chris N

Maaaan how is Spartan still so confused about how Christmas works every movie? It's once a year, halfway through the school year, just like in the real world. Is it different in Australia or something?

gcdnr2272

British schools roughly go from September to June so that's why Christmas always comes round quick in the movies :)

Sam Criddle

Fun fact His nose is supposed to resemble the nose of a snake & the different colours of his robes are all different shades of green to resemble the Slytherin house :)

John Smith

Imelda Staunton doesn't get enough credit for her portrayal of one of the most despicable characters on film. I get chills even when I see her in something else. Stephen King himself said that Umbridge was the greatest villain since Hannibal Lecter. Also, as a cat lover I am very offended. While this is the longest book, the film is the second shortest. Mrs. Figg, Harry's neighbour, is revealed to be a Squib, which is a non-magical person who is born with at least one magical parent (kind of the opposite of a Muggleborn). Filch is also a Squib. The revelation that Umbridge was the one who sent the dementors that attacked Harry and Dudley is cut from the film. Quidditch is entirely cut from the film. Kreacher the house-elf has a bigger part in the book. Dobby helps Harry discover the Room of Requirement, not Neville (it is also Dobby who gives Harry the Gillyweed in Goblet of Fire instead of Neville). Harry, Ron, and Hermione meet Neville's parents, who were tortured into insanity by Bellatrix, at St. Mungo's Hospital. They also see Gilderoy Lockhart who's memory is still severely damaged. The memory that Harry sees of his dad bullying Snape is longer and more detailed in the book. It's actually about Lily ending her friendship with Snape after he called her a Mudblood. So while James was still an asshole he was actually defending Lily. It's revealed that Professor Trelawney's prophecy about "The Chosen One" could have been about Neville. And Dumbledore explains the real reason Harry has to stay with the Dursleys: When Lily offered her own life to Voldemort in exchange for Harry’s she invoked an ancient and powerful spell in which her blood serves as protection for Harry against Voldemort. As her sister, Petunia, is her closest blood relative, Harry is protected as long as he stays where she stays until the age of 17. Harry's behaviour towards Cho in the film kinda pissed me off. In the book, they actually started a relationship and breaking up was a mutual decision. Cho was not tortured by Umbridge and forced to reveal, AGAINST HER WILL, where Dumbledore's Army was practising. It was Cho's friend Marietta Edgecombe who WILLINGLY leaked information to Umbridge. Btw in the scene where Harry tells Ron and Hermione about the kiss their laughing was improvised. J.K. Rowling said that Harry wouldn't have remembered his parents' death clearly enough because of him being just a baby at the time, but, unlike in the book, in the first film he sees Quirrell die. Because of this, he should've been able to see the Thestrals from his second year, but Thestrals hadn't been mentioned in the books at the time so the filmmakers wouldn't have known about the potential continuity error. Beautiful note: Evanna Lynch had written a letter to J.K. Rowling about her struggles with anorexia before being cast as Luna Lovegood. And if you're into some behind the scenes gossip: Emma Thompson (Trelawney) and Kenneth Branagh (Lockhart) were married but he left her for Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix), though years before. So if you've seen Love Actually then THAT moment hits you even harder.
