Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire | Reaction & Review

Comments

I would like to share a couple of other thoughts. Notice that when Voldemort and Harry duel, Voldemort throws out an Avada Kedavra and Harry uses Expelliarmus, the Disarming Spell. Remember that the first time Harry sees the Expelliarmus spell being used is in the Dueling lesson from Chamber of Secrets. Professor Snape uses the spell on Lockhart during their demonstration. Just keep that little detail in mind. The other thing I would like to point out is that the movie cuts out the entire House Elf subplot that is in the books. As much as you two seemed to enjoy Dobby, I think you would really enjoy his expanded story in the books. In fact, the entire House Elf storyline in the book series adds some additional depth to the entire story. It isn’t in the third book, but it is part of all the rest, especially books four, five and seven. As I have seen people already mention to you, the audio books are available to listen to on a couple of different websites. And I highly recommend the Stephen Fry version over the Jim Dale version. They really would be a fun listen if you would like an option to reading the books. As big as the Harry Potter fandom is, I bet you could have some great live discussions on the differences between the books and the movies if you chose to listened to them or even read them. They are so engaging that they are credited with getting an entire generation of kids to start reading.

I don’t know if anyone has already commented on this, as I’m not going to read through all of the comments, but I wanted to point out that Voldemort’s resurrection scene is very much a type of Black Mass. Anyone familiar with the Catholic Mass, or similar types of religious ceremonies can probably see the parallels. You have the bone of Voldemort’s father, the blood of his enemy and the flesh of his servant contributing to his resurrection. There are definite similarities to the ceremony of communion. It was very ironic that when these books were coming out that there were some Christian Fundamentalists who accused the series of being satanic and tried to have them banned from libraries. When in reality the books contain a great deal of Christian symbolism and messages about the significance of sacrifice and the importance of love. It’s not Christian in a preachy way but the themes are there. And part of that is due to the fact that the author had studied Classics. Many of the English novels from the past couple of centuries that we consider classics are full of Christian symbolism and themes. Another factor is that Rowling was in the very early stages of developing the Harry Potter series when her mother died. Her mother’s death greatly affected her and the story is definitely influenced by it. Voldemort’s greatest fear is death. And one of the most important messages of the story is that love transcends death.

agreee, too stressed for a Sunday. :(

Sean Carroll

Spartan, how tf you did you watch the twilight movies but never saw lotr? What's wrong with you dude?? :D

Cs Zoltan

Yeah, I wish the releases were faster for us

Simon

NGL it’s a shame that we’re only 1 movie ahead of people on Youtube

Sasha

Also this is the reason why harry burned professor quil in movie one. Its why quil didnt want to hand shake harry in movie one in the pub with hagrid. because of the spell that was undone here

Reginald

Actually Dumbledore said "Snape was indeed a death eater, and PRIOR to Voldemort's downfall turned spy for us, a great personal risk"

Simon

There is a Wizarding School in Australia named Cheshire School. It's supposed to be somewhere around the southeastern coast. They have "houses" like Hogwarts but each house is named after some aspect of Aboriginal Folklore. The houses are: Bunyip Nargun Wagyl Yowie

Jeff

Love it! As a child, I read the books before the movies came along, and in the books, Snape is largely framed as being..confusing. He saves Harry sometimes, but he also does a lot of things that make him seem like he hates Harry and is against him. It doesn’t make much sense until later on

Amanda Theriault

Thats pretty cool that you know all that. Where did you learn all of this info? Just from reading the books?

ADHDubz

LMAO I also choked up my good with that Dumbledore edit

Alex Ocean

There are lots of different magical schools around the world in the Wizarding World, each covering different countries/regions. Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang just the three biggest wizarding schools in Europe. Beaubaxtons is in southern France and covers western Europe. Durmstang is somewhere in north eastern Europe and covers all of eastern Europe. And of course, Hogwarts is in Scotland and serves Britain and Ireland. They’re all co-ed in the books. Beaubaxtons bring male students with them to Hogwarts, and Durmstrang bring female students to compete too. In fact, Durmstang was founded by a woman, and Nicholas Flamel (who invented the Philosopher’s stone) attended Beaubaxtons. I guess the screenwriter just decided Hogwarts needed to stand out more.

snowforia

Yeah it’s a shame on the extended version you have to sync up

Harrison

Uncut reaction baby 😎

Daniel Castro

Not one Yule Ball scene? How disappointing. 🫤

theshadowfax

Spartan I got to give you props with this series you’ve been very astute, and noticing things most people wouldn’t 👏🏻 Also just to clarify something, Snape was a death eater he turned a spy AFTER Voldemort’s downfall🙃

Joana

So hyped for the last 4, all incredible in my opinion.

Wadey

Voldemort’s creepy appearance after being ‘reborn’ (with snakelike nasal slits, greyish skin, etc.) is a physical manifestation of how evil his soul has become. (Plus he is the heir of Slytherin = snakes.) Ralph Fiennes (the actor who played LV) said when he first walked onto set as Voldemort in full robes & makeup, he looked at a child (who was on set) and the kid immediately burst into tears! He said right then he knew his costume was perfect.

DominaZeta

Been waiting for this one my favorite one in the series

Axel Padilla

I just can't learn with these. This time the editor got me. I can't help the entertaining value of the vids is so high always sit down with something to eat or just munch on. That scene when Dumbledore "interrogates" got me so hard I choked on the nachos I was eating and managed to end up salsa in my nostrils. Well done editor, you got me so Im gonna spend the next 30 minutes cleaning my monitor. :) What an entrance to one of the best Villain in the history of modern cinema. He came in like a boss, instantly taking names and shaming people lol

neutchain

For some reason, I never made that connection the first time I watched it. It's so obvious in hindsight though.

Paul

The main characters ages go up by 1 each movie, harry was 11 in philosopher stone so he's 14 here, 15 next movie etc

Josh Ashford

Barty Crouch's lip lick was the thing that made his Dad double take and go all weird when he saw Mad Eye.

Nick Carlson

I like how Voldy no nose is like a snake. Heir of Slytherin indeed.

Nick Carlson

Yes lessgooo

Fans of the books have long made fun of Dumbledore's "DID YA PUT YAH NAME IN DA GOLBET OF FIYAH?" because it is clearly stated "Dumbledoe asked CALMLY". Just one example of how film Dumbledore is different from book Dumbledore AND how Michael Gambon's Dumbledore is different from Richard Harris' Dumbledore. Both great, just different. Remember in the first film when Ollivander says to Harry that the core of his wand was made from a feather of the same phoenix as Voldemort's (more specifically Dumbledore's phoenix aka Fawkes)? The Priori Incantatem, or Reverse Spell, effect occurs when such 'brother wands' connect in a duel. The winner's wand (Harry's) forces the loser's wand (Voldemort's) to produce "echoes" of their most recent spells performed in reverse order. So when Harry sees Cedric, the muggle from the beginning and his parents, that is the reverse order in which they were killed by Voldemort's wand. As always there's a lot in the book that is not in the film. Most of it is not THAT important but one thing I love that is missing is a subplot involving Hermione forming S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare), a group/organisation to liberate Hogwarts' enslaved house-elves. Winky the house-elf who serves the Crouch family is an important character in the book, as is Dobby (he gives Harry the Gillyweed instead of Neville). The tongue thing done by Barty Crouch Jr. was not in the book and was improvised by David Tennant. Brendan Gleeson then added the quirk to a few of his scenes as a hint to his real identity. Victor Krum is under the Imperius Curse (one of the three unforgivable curses) in the maze. The victim basically has no control over their actions and is obedient to whomever casted the spell (in this case Barty Crouch Jr). They are placed in a trance-like state, hence why his eyes are like that. In the book, Harry and Cedric are tied for first place, but with Cedric dead, Harry is declared the winner. He is rewarded with a large sum of money, but struck with immense guilt over Cedric's death he offers it to Cedric's parents, who politely decline. He gives the money to Fred and George instead who use it to open a joke shop. Lastly, Cedric's dad's cries are absolutely heartbreaking. That actor did a phenomenal job portraying a father who just lost his son.

Heida

not true. Sounds like it, but if you watch with subtitles on he says something else

Sasha

Welcome Becca! thanks for clarifying that 👌🏼

CpaSpartan Pudgey

The original post and the response to it are both spoilers in my opinion. The only takeaway from that scene at this point should be “Wow, Harry is more special and more powerful than we thought.”

imperial

Pretty interesting note...If you guys go back to The Chamber of Secrets ending when Dobby was given the sock; Lucius tried to use the killing curse on Harry. Just listen to the first part of what Lucius tried to say and the curse when professor Moody uses it on the bug.

Incog Spectator

Snape was an actual death eater before he switched to the good side & became a spy. He was a bad guy first though.

KC

Hi guys! I love your reactions you are so perceptive and just so good in your guesses! Just wanted to explain something ( no spoilers of course) what happened between Voldemort and Harry when the wands connected was something called priory incantatom it’s basically when the centre of the connection touches one of the wands it kind of revives the last spells this wand has made but only until the connection is broken. I’ve watched the movies when I was younger and read the books only recently and just realised how many details you know only if you read them

Chen Edri

Cedric’s death is one of the ones that hurts most in the series. Just straight up murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And the scene with the fanfare playing as Amos realizes his son is dead and breaks down, very well done.

Ludus Aurea

And the only reason that Harry "bested" Voldemort, or that Voldemort didn't completely dominate, is because Voldemort's own wand was fighting against him, as we saw from his parents and Cedric coming out and helping Harry. If you remember, in the first movie it's explained that Harry's and Voldemort's wands are like "brother" wands

Marcell

That tattoo (called the dark mark) is just Voldemorts symbol. Think of it like the Nazi symbol. And they use it to create the dark mark in the sky, either to like say that Voldemort or his servants were there like at the quidditch world cup, or to call his servants there to him, like in the graveyard

Marcell

Hi. First time commenting in this type of community- so Hello! Anyway, Spartan- you’re spot-on with your comment about the Great Hall’s lightening storm was reacting to the fake Moody. If I remember correctly (it’s been years), it seemed more obvious when reading the book.

Becca

He's wearing a grey sweater during the intro but took the sweater off before they started watching the movie. Not sure whats weird about it.

Tegan

I noticed in the intro Spartan had a grey shirt, but once the reaction started, he was wearing a House Stark shirt. Editing is weird.

Kevin DiSalvo

Voldemort is back!!

AWR93

This one's early! What are the chances of the next HP being early? 🙂

Simon

And I almost hate how smart spartan is, I swear man’s the thinker

Colton

Sad I’ve been waiting for this
