Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets | Reaction & Review

Comments

Just joined your Patreon for early access Harry Potter edited reactions. Can't wait for HP3. I only wish that the rate of Patreon releases were faster so that I could already watch all your HP movie reactions :)

Simon

agreed that this is the weakest. It’s a testament to the quality of the films though that the weakest one is still a decent film. The HP films are actually very consistent and I don’t think any movie is a bad movie. It undoubtedly gets better with the actors growing etc. but I think the consistency that none of the films despite still being childish (the first couple only) are not bad, is a great achievement.

Owen Hargrave

There are definitely issues with the HP films. Inconsistencies etc. I gave up after the 2nd movie picked up years later and now I love them even with their flaws. Definitely starts to get better after the 2nd (I believe personality 🙏)

rachel pelfrey

I personally love the first couple movies I think the world building and antics are so fun and unique and amazingly done considering when the movies came out. They’re just little kids in the first two movies so it’s fitting the movies still have that childlike wonder and mystery as well as childlike villains. As the viewer we got to grow with the characters and the story as the stakes heightened.

I started reading Harry Potter in my mid-30s... Zero nostalgia factor for me. Nevertheless, I consider it to be one of the greatest acts of sustained imagination in the history of modern literature. Movies inevitably strip out a good deal of the texture and complexity of layered stories. The HP movies don't equal the books by any means, but they get progressively better as they go along.

M. Gideon Hoyle

Man I can't wait for you guys to get to the later movies. I was in 2nd grade when the first harry potter movie came out so I pretty much grew up with these actors as they went through their careers and they will never not make me cry.

Lion Hrodgari

This is the weakest film, 6/10. It doesnt have the greatness and awe that draws you into this world like the first one and the plot only really kicks in when Harry starts hearing voices. I know its a childrens movie, but there are also a lot of instances where a scene happends and its perfectly understandable what just happened... only then for a character 1 second later to explain or express what just happened. And there is voldemorts monologue explaining his plan, instead of just killing them. The 3rd Movie is where the story really becomes amazing.

The Actor For Dumbledore In Movies 3-8 Passed Away Yesterday, R.I.P

Fabian

Dumbledore was recast after this film due to Richard Harris' death. Coincidentally, Sir Michael Gambon who portrayed Dumbledore in films 3-8 just died yesterday. Although based on the second shortest book, this is the longest film. Order of the Phoenix, which is based on the longest book, is the second shortest of the movies. Foreign language translations had to change Tom Marvolo Riddle's name, so that an appropriate anagram could be formed. In Icelandic (my language) his name is "Trevor Délgome" which makes up "Ég er Voldemort". Before Christian Coulson was cast as Tom Riddle, Eddie Redmayne, who later played Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts films, auditioned for the role. Hugh Grant was originally cast as Lockhart but was forced to withdraw at the last minute because of scheduling conflicts. Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) also originally auditioned for Lockhart. Tom Felton improvised Draco's "I didn't know you could read" to Harry disguised as Goyle because he forgot his line. Lucius' and Harry's exchange just before Lucius leaves Dumbledore's office was completely improvised by the actors on the spot. Jason Isaacs said "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" and Daniel Radcliffe immediately replied "Don't worry, I will be". In the book it's revealed that Filch is actually a Squib, which is a non-magical person who is born with at least one magical parent (kind of the opposite of a Muggleborn). Hermione and Ron's awkward non-hug was the result of Emma Watson being embarassed to hug both Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in front of everyone, with her hugging Daniel during filming having to be frozen for a few seconds to get the desired effect due to her breaking the hug too quickly. It's almost universally agreed upon that the films did Ron dirty. One of the most notable ways was how most of his best lines were given to Hermione. One notable example of this is when Hermione is the one to explain what "Mudblood" means instead of Ron. In the book, Ron is also the one who points out how ridiculous the whole idea of wizarding blood supremacy is (instead of Hagrid). A sweet behind the scenes story is that during production, Emma Watson frequently brought her pet hamster Millie on set but, unfortunately, Millie passed away shortly after filming began. The set department created a specially-made hamster coffin for her.

And RIP Michael Gambon

Knowing how much you both appreciate great storytelling and character building, and world building, I really do think you guys will FALL IN LOVE with these movies!!! I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to see reactors do these movies, they really are epic! Pudgey, you’re as emotional as I am. Good luck.

Stephanie Hundley

Rip M. Gambon! He made my first and second encounter with dumbledore so magical as kid. He was this mythical character who always new what to say and had an aura around him. I think we are a small group- but I really don’t find dobby that charming or interesting. He’s quite annoying and weird. But luckily the books are around. Story wise the next movie isn’t as good as the others coming after, but for a cinema standpoint it’s a really enjoyable movie. It was my favourite as a child/young teenager.

D D

Rip, Micheal Gambon, the next dumbledore for the rest of the movies just passed away

Murshete

You guys are over the "handheld" period at this point. I feel like the first two movies are more geared towards children. They changed the director after this one and the story gets more adult and darker, you will see a significant change in the tone. The writing is outstanding throughout the movies and the performances are just as good. It's really a unique experience to watch a couple of kids going through so much stuff ( magical and traumatic ) and coming out as young adults by the end of the movies. Banter is on point as usual, editor with that news overlay was great, really made me chuckle. : )

neutchain

I agree, noticed the same

neutchain

@Spartan & Pudgey from having seen a number of HP and other movie reactions on yt, having "for the first time" in the title does bits, views wise

Murshete

Dumbledore is in his 100's if I remember correctly.

Daniel Castro

Can't wait until the next reaction from you guys! I really feel the next movie is where things start to pick up and get a little more adult in a way. Great reaction keep up the good work.

Kyle green

Pudgy would definitely be a member of S.P.E.W!

Matt Tipple

Just a note about Dumbledore, don't forget that he got suspended as Headmaster of Hogwarts (scene in Hagrid's Hut). This is why Harry couldn't go to him instead of going into the chamber himself once he figured out where it was.

Matt Tipple

And btw I read the books when I was a kid but didnt fully understand the depth. I read them again later in my 20s and watched the movies. It was 'magical'

Hira Memon

omggg I cant wait for them to see the rest of the movies. I am super excited!

Hira Memon

Aside from the movie, I love that yall are supporting Carlie and Ange. 🖤

Vanessa Campbell

they literally ran a poll that asked if we wanted HP reactions next, and it was like an 80/20 percent split, so im not sure how it's not "worth" it

Paul

House elves are pretty powerful as Dobby has shown, their just usually bound magically to serve a wizard or family :( That’s why Dobby couldn’t do anything to Lucius

Super Novice

Even when the films get better, it honestly won’t be worth being locked into a movie series that will take 2 months to finish, as opposed to reacting to 8 different movies. I hope we can move off the franchise and fantasy path a bit

Zeek

I can only recommend reading the books since the movies were not able to tell the full story and explain everything as much as needed. At least later on. Still good movies.

MO

From the third movie onward they switched the Film director!! So You will be definitely be able to tell the switch up within the movie, which is definitely for the better! So it’s def valid that these first two movie are on the weaker side of the series.

Koby Murnane

perfect for my day off ^^

SleeplessCSGO

Will reactor commentors ever learn that setting up expectations (THE NEXT MOVIE IS GWWWEATT!!! IT'S THE BESTEST!!!!) is the surest way to disappointment? 🤦‍♂️

Julien

Just wait till you guys have kids (if you do of course) and get to see them watch these for the first time 🥹 magical!

Natalie-Anne

The next movie is one of the best imo!!! Only gets better from here 🤍🤍

Natalie-Anne

Next movie is top, but to be fair I love them all and the books

Super Novice

Last one is the best

Sean Carroll

Almost everyone has a different opinion on what the two weakest are.

Tzeiggi

First 2 movies are great don't get me wrong but they are the weakest of the series. From here on out they're amazing.

Demo

Can't wait for you to meet the new Dumbledore actor, he makes an incredible difference. Although rip Dumbledore from 1 and 2 movies

Leonidas Raftopoulos

Next movie is insanely good. Probably the best HP movie.

Pablo

Pretty sure the consensus is that this is the weakest movie/book. I actually like this book better than the first because... I had watched the first movie before reading the books and the first movie was so faithful to the first book that reading it just felt like rewatching the movie. So this 2nd book is really what got me into the story. It's where I got proper hooked by the world. Just my subjective experience. I still find this movie the weakest.

Julien

Hope to get Prisoner of Azkaban uncut soon 🤞
