It's so rare because it requires the parents of the bender to be a fire bender and an earth bender, and due to the 100 year war, there weren't many mixed nation couples, especially with the fire nation. And even with those criteria met, its still a rare and powerful skill.

You definitely understand how much more separated these 3 seasons have been compared to ATLA because of how these first 3 seasons were greenlit one at a time. So I think it would be cool to do a discussion of the plots/villains/characters after viewing the whole series. Also, this episode was an absolute banger. I loved Mako showing trust in Bolin’s abilities after Bolin has been struggling with his confidence lately. Great brotherly moment

2023-09-25 03:03:33 +0000 UTCProbably the highlight of the episode for me was Bolin and Mako's reaction to Korra being kidnapped. Now obviously she's their friend, and onbviously she's the Avatar, so her safety is paramount. but the way they panicked, the way they acted in perfect sync, no confusion, no nothing, just seeing their friend in trouble and immediately going to help. Besides, anything powerful enough to rouse two teenage boys from their beds with that swiftness is a friendship stronger than anything seen in this series yet. Aiwei straight up bombing the Krew to cover his escape was easily one of the most unexpected moments of the series. I mean climatic battles are great and all, but you always know they're coming. Now the moment they just turned a corner and there's just an IED vibin in this guy's basement, now that catches you off guard. I especially liked that quick zoom on Korra's face right as she realized what was about to happen.
