Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

what language were spartan speaking in 2:08:37? Couldn't understand it..according to subtitles it was "he copper one cup the the ray" so wth? Even Pudgey look like she was confused.

Veli-Jussi Hirvonen

Would be nice if you added a ready set go at the start! Voldemort 0 Harry 3 xD

FatLittleButterfly

💛 You're catching things very well so far. I wonder if it continues next time.

JIM SCHMITZ

Fun fact: Wizards age slower than muggles after reaching maturity, allowing them to have children later in life. The oldest wizard in Harry Potter history is Barry Winkle, who celebrated his 755th birthday and is believed to have relied on magic to achieve such a long life

Inger Lise

Just so you know, Percy Weasley, who told Crabbe & Goyle to go to their dorms, isn't a Slytherin. He's a Gryffindor, all of the Weasleys are. He said he's a school prefect, which is just the head boy, so he was patrolling the halls.

shoniswife_

Much love to everyone here in the community, bonding over great stories. And RIP to Robby Coltrane. You made Hogwarts more real for us.

Darth Sckolar

I saw the HP movies as an adult, and that pulled me into the universe. I saw the first two movies several times on TV, which got me to read the first two books, and then the third right before the third movie came out. The books and the movies definitely got darker, and in the end, I don't think JK Rowling was even writing for children anymore, though they certainly were suitable for children to get into.

Michael Weiner

He’s also in Empire Strikes Back, and plays Walter Donavan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Michael Weiner

I agree, the third is a lot darker in tone. When I was a child, 3 scared me. Looking back now as an adult, I'm not quite sure why. However Chamber of Secrets has always been my favourite and instilled a love of snakes in me. Odd.

Dumbledore was recast after this film due to Richard Harris' death. Coincidentally, Sir Michael Gambon who portrayed Dumbledore in films 3-8 just died yesterday. Although based on the second shortest book, this is the longest film. Order of the Phoenix, which is based on the longest book, is the second shortest of the movies. Foreign language translations had to change Tom Marvolo Riddle's name, so that an appropriate anagram could be formed. In Icelandic (my language) his name is "Trevor Délgome" which makes up "Ég er Voldemort". Before Christian Coulson was cast as Tom Riddle, Eddie Redmayne, who later played Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts films, auditioned for the role. Hugh Grant was originally cast as Lockhart but was forced to withdraw at the last minute because of scheduling conflicts. Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) also originally auditioned for Lockhart. Tom Felton improvised Draco's "I didn't know you could read" to Harry disguised as Goyle because he forgot his line. Lucius' and Harry's exchange just before Lucius leaves Dumbledore's office was completely improvised by the actors on the spot. Jason Isaacs said "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" and Daniel Radcliffe immediately replied "Don't worry, I will be". In the book it's revealed that Filch is actually a Squib, which is a non-magical person who is born with at least one magical parent (kind of the opposite of a Muggleborn). Hermione and Ron's awkward non-hug was the result of Emma Watson being embarassed to hug both Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in front of everyone, with her hugging Daniel during filming having to be frozen for a few seconds to get the desired effect due to her breaking the hug too quickly. It's almost universally agreed upon that the films did Ron dirty. One of the most notable ways was how most of his best lines were given to Hermione. One notable example of this is when Hermione is the one to explain what "Mudblood" means instead of Ron. In the book, Ron is also the one who points out how ridiculous the whole idea of wizarding blood supremacy is (instead of Hagrid). A sweet behind the scenes story is that during production, Emma Watson frequently brought her pet hamster Millie on set but, unfortunately, Millie passed away shortly after filming began. The set department created a specially-made hamster coffin for her.

Heida

cannot wait for movie 3, i have a feeling this will be the movie for you guys!

connie

Dumbledore is 150 years old by the way and the average life span of a wizard is different than a muggle. Wizards live up to an average of 140 years old

Emmy

You really have to anyalze these movies based on the age of the characters and audience at the time. The entire franchise even had 4 different directors, done on purpose to match each director's style to the age of the characters and increasing darkness of the movies. The first two were directed by a director known for childrens movies and they are some of the greatest children movies of all time. And to be honest as an adult I still love watching them!

Emmy

"A character like that doesn't dissappear for 5-6 movies" uhm....

Ammaar Ahmed

Dumbledore and Harry are the only one who say Voldermort openly.

Ammaar Ahmed

lads dumbledore is like 130 in this, that mf was almost 80 in the flashback

Ammaar Ahmed

also bcs you were talking you missed Lockhart snatching Ron's wand - i.e the broken wand

Ammaar Ahmed

i've never seen Spartan make so many wrong points or observation - every few minutes. For example, percy says how he's a prefect which is why he's patrolling the corridors and SP thinks he's a Slytherin - one of many clunker lmao

Ammaar Ahmed

House elves are bound by magic to obey their masters until released. That's why Dobby was punishing himself, and why he never fought back. The books go into more detail about it. There's even a story line, which I don't think is covered in the movies where Hermione tries to fight for their rights and they don't even want her help. Dobby is an outlier.

Max Herberg

i just say that because they're only a few minutes longer but they have a few scenes that explain more detailed like

Boaty Zooka

Spartan, the train to Hogwarts departs on September 1st each year and the school year ends around mid-June/end of June. Students have the option to stay at Hogwarts over the Christmas holiday period, which is what you have seen in the first and second movies so far.

Oslo

you should begin watching the peacock versions there are extended all. as well as the fantastic beasts movies.

Boaty Zooka

Voldemort is a half blood

Petar

It's a bit confusing but this is the blood breakup in HP. Half blood = one parent is a witch, and the other parent Is either a witch with Muggle (fully human) parents, or is a muggle themself. Pure blood = all the people in the family are wizards/witches. Mudblood (bad word lol) or Muggle-born = someone with non-magic parents, this is also Harry's mother, which is why Harry is considered a half-blood, Hermione is muggle born, and Ron is pureblood. Voldemort is also a Half Blood. Also Percy Weasley, Ron's brother is NOT in Slytherin. all the Weasleys are in Gryffindor.

Km

The thing about the Harry Potter series is the movies grow up along with the audience. Yes the first few are more for children, because the characters are also children. But the audience and characters mature as the movies progress.

Valcor

Mudblood is a half breed witch/wizard. Muggle is a normal human with no powers. I noticed you were mixing them up.

Valcor

These movies were always released around Christmas so it is kind of a Christmas movie. That's why they have Christmas alot in the movie and have Christmas themes sometimes.

Valcor

Dumbledore is well over 100 years old!

Serena

The films just get better and better imo, can't wait to see prisoner of askaban.

Anthony Brown

Yea gilderoy imo is the funniest hp character

TheRoguePrince19

A lot of them were released at xmas time

Rainbow

New director next film. VERY stylised. Very artsy. Darker tone. And it only keeps going.

Rainbow

Gilderoy Lockhart is by far my favorite Harry Potter character lol

Christopher

I love how every franchise someone gets the title of "sneaky snake ___" lol

Alex Ocean

fun fact: Lucius Malfoy (Draco's dad) voices Commander Zhao in Avatar the Last Airbender!

A.D

I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the series! I think that starting the next movie, you guys will start to really fall in love with it. Can't wait!

Chris Mullen

"There's no Hogwart's without you Hagrid" line will always get to me. Hits differently nowadays whenever I hear it being said out loud🥺

Ashley H.N

"oh dear we are in trouble..." rains of castamere plays

Rainbow

Sneaky Snake Pycelle isn't the snake, but he does play the spider Aragog!

Rainbow

Ugh, so happy you guys are watching HP. Y’all are so cute! Keep it up🫶

Kate

Yea guys I want to make it clear that the tone doesn’t switch at the halfway point like y’all think , It gets super dark next film . Just letting y’all know soo you don’t expect it to get dark so late in the franchise yea no next film it becomes alot more mature, I mean it’s alot darker than lotr imo .

JonSnow21

Yep most people have either Azkaban or Deathly hallows part 2 as their favourite.

JonSnow21

The actor who plays Dumbledore died between filming the 2nd and 3rd movies so its a change of actor. Took me a movie or 2 to get used to him but I think I prefered the new one more in the end.

Dan Tydeman

I can never get away from my phobia of spiders. There’s always a GIANT SPIDER. I still get chills when Tom Riddle reveals himself to be a young Voldemort. The actor did a great job playing the Dark Lord. I always wonder what would have happened if Diary-Tom’s plan worked - if he regained his body and escaped the diary? We know the “real” Voldemort is still out there somewhere in a weakened state, after leaving Professor Quirrell’s body at the end of Part 1. Would there be two Voldemorts then, a young one and an older one? Would they team up or be rivals? Guess it doesn’t matter now, but it’s interesting to think about.

imperial

Fun fact, the actor that plays Lucius Malfoy (Draco's father) is the same actor that voiced Admiral Zhao from ATLA!

Aliyah

❤️

CpaSpartan Pudgey

just the netflix version. i believe after this movie there is no extended variations so you should be sweet

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Can't wait for the next movies!!!

Alex Ocean

I think most would agree the first 2 are the "worst" ones. The 3rd one is where it really gets better IMO.

Kevin Bandy

Just for what its worth I thought I might mention it but Spartan when you were a bit confused after Gilderoy Lockhart's spell backfired on himself, it was because he pretended to faint which I think you saw but you and Pudgy turned to each other to talk and missed him get back up and take Rons wand from him, So he used Ron's broken wand to perform the spell which reflected back on himself just like the slug spell reflected back at Ron. I have noticed a few of these moments happen in some reactions were you guys turn to talk then are slightly unsure soon after about something that happened haha :) I imagine you pickup on these things when you go back through hand edit the footage though :P anways good to rewatch this one with you guys

Sebz

Haven’t watched this reaction yet and I’m hyped but I really can’t wait for prisoner of Azkaban, it’s the next film in the franchise and is considered by many critics and audiences as one of the best fantasy films of all time.

JonSnow21

It's hard to see people expect movies like this subvert expectations, when they are the movies that pioneered the expectations.

Alex sh

You will notice that each movie's tone and plot mature with Harry's age, so you really feel that the first two are for the 11 and 12 age groups. Harry will turn 13 on the third movie and you will definitely see and feel the shift into darker themes.

Thomas Jefferson Reyes

Seeing this up made my day. I needed it. Thank you.

Farbod

As magical as the first two movies feel, they're actually my least favorite to rewatch. Well, Chamber of Secrets, anyway. But I can't wait for the rest of this series. So many great moments ahead.

John Neiberger

The movies get progressively darker and the tone more mature as Harry is growing up. These movies were made at a time were CGI was rapidly improving, so in the later movies the CGI and the special effects are what you would expect of a modern action movie. I think its quite difficult to rate these movies without having seen the entire series. There is a lot of foreshadowing and plots that you don't fully understand, but that will become incredibly obvious and more meaningful once you have a deeper understanding of the lore and the context. There are for example some significant character and plot twists that won't be revealed to you before you get closer to the end, which will completely change your perspective on both the characters and the previous movies. Nonetheless, you are in for a treat.

Emma

im so hyped to continue this journey in the world of HP! LETS GOOOOOO. love the reactions, also binging the breaking bad reactions at the moment as well. hoping one day for a TWD reactions even though the later seasons are mid.

Steven Enderley

Not sure what version you guys are watching but I'm pretty sure I'm not watching extended versions (it's not labeled as such anywhere) along with you but I'm getting extra scenes in these movies that you guys are not seeing.

Kevin Bandy

There’s something very storybook about the first two movies, they have a very childlike feel, in a good way, even with the darker elements. That will definitely shift in the next movie, onwards. They will feel more gritty and the consequences start to feel more realistic, if that makes sense. Love the first two movies because of how nostalgic they are and how much they remind me of being a kid. Also, there’s important seeds planted in this movie in particular that you’ll see come back in future movies. JK (the author) was pretty masterful at the foreshadowing! I’m excited to see how you guys feel about the Prisoner of Azkaban though. Shiz starts to get real in movie 3!

Ailene Evangelista

Saying dumbledore looks like he’s in his 60s is so funny 🤣 I’m sure he would love the compliment

Kodi

I'd advise whoever the moderator is to let Spartan and Pudgey know that there will be a actor recast next movie with the Dumbledore. I've watched a lot of ppl react for first time to Harry Potter and get so distracted by the recast that it takes away from it for them in 3rd movie, only to be told after the movie that the actor passed away and needed recasted. Can't wait for the next one...gonna be great!

Nate Terry

I love watching these type of movies from Oct-Dec. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years.

Robert L

These very much are Christmas movies, I watch them all every year in December. Obviously they're not themed around Christmas, but a decent chunk of a lot of them are set during Christmas time.

Nick Luce

That Spider monster is voiced by the actor that plays Pycelle in Game of thrones.

Robert L

Gilderoy Lockhart took Ron's wand from his hand. You guys looked away at that split second.

Jason Serrano

You guys are both wrong, I was the one that said Snape was probably friends with his parents

Conner

My father took me to see this 20 times when I was a kid.

Robert L

***********MOD MESSAGE - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING!! *********** *****NO SPOILERS FOR ANY FUTURE MOVIES OR BOOKS BEYOND MOVIE #2, CHAMBER OF SECRETS!!!*****

Omg yesssss I’ve been waiting so eagerly. I’m telling y’all the third one is gonna really flip the switch for y’all. The director really makes it a masterpiece
