You mentioned that the cliffhanger had nothing to do with Walt, and I'll have to respectfully disagree! Haha Walt is directly tied to this plane crash. He willingly allowed Jane to die; if she had lived, the crash would not have occurred. As Pudgey mentioned, his sweater being the same color as the bear is clear symbolism of his role in the crash. Gus def saw the pic of Walt; he recognized him for sure. Now he knows that Walt is related to a DEA agent!

Neville L

Bro. Gus saw the picture he's aware of his surroundings

Justin

And when Walt said he needs 737,000 dollars in episode 1 in the junkyard a plane was flying over

Justin

don't forget 5

Justin

“ is this one of your agebts

Sean Carroll

Ahh ABQ = Albaquerque ...now I see....I thought they were making a Star Trek reference since th actor that plays Jane's father is famous for playing "Q" in STTNG lol

Corbyndallas

The planes are related to Walt. Everything that happened during the season ultimately led to all those people dying. Walt didn't kill them, but if Jane's dad hadn't been so distraught, it probably wouldn't have happened. Also, If you read the titles of the episodes starting with the bear, it comes together as 'Flight 737 Down Over ABQ"

Cole

For why Jane's dad was calm and he didn't go after Jesse, it was because all his worst fears over the last ten years had been realized and there was nothing more he could do. When Jane was alive, he could grab Jesse and demand he get out, he could make ultimatums for her and keep trying tough love, because he knew it might be the only thing that would keep her alive. When she died, all the anger and the struggle and the fights and the worry... it was all over, and he was left with nothing but numb loss and absolute impotence. He could kill Jesse, kill every heroin dealer in the world, and bask in the ashes, and his daughter would still be dead.

Shannon Bey

Spartan had an absolute nightmare this episode. Fair enough, not connecting with Jane's dad's reaction to her death, but it really wasn't as weird as he made it seem. The real nightmare though was thinking that Gus didn't see Walt's photo. They couldn't have made it more obvious.

A L

Those planes would've never crashed had Walter not let Jane die.

Kris Brown

So the finale shows the butterfly effect of Walt's actions, and how it extends to even people out of the drug game. As an Air Traffic Controller, Jane's dad uses the Phonetic alphabet to relay info so A it Alpha, B is Bravo, C is Charlie, etc. And in that alphabet J is supposed to be "Juliet" but he slips up and says "Jane" so he freezes up in a moment of grief which caused the terrible accident. It was underwhelming but I promise the season finales only get better from here. If you look at the 4 episode titles with black and white intros, it spells out "Seven Thirty Seven" "Down" "Over" "ABQ" (The abbreviation for Albuquerque) so put together it essentially tells you how the season ends "737 down over Albuquerque" because Wayfarer 515 was a Boeing 737 but all the titles also have a double meaning that applies to the individual episode as well, very cool piece of trivia

Pogger White

I felt the same way at first because seeing those body bags since the start of the season brings up wild theories but in hindsight I was thinking too grandiose for the main characters without realizing the reality of 2 jets worth of innocent people killed being horrible as it should be and walter was the initial domino in that effect.

Handohansolo

The entire plane and how it relates to Jane's father is all about Walt's choices(regarding Jane) and how it doesn't just effect him(or his family) but many others as well. All we see as the audience is Walt & the characters around him but we rarely see those who Walt's choices affects people. I mean, by becoming a kingpin selling meth he's literally contributing to the destruction of his customer's lives(not to mention those who get hooked who previously weren't.) Season 3 & 4 just keep getting better. Hang on

TimTakDoh

I mean, without clarifying any further on the consequences of what you said, I am very very thankful. Holy crap lol. First time I've ever been thankful for How I Met Your Mother I think

lemmy

Thank how I met your mother for Bob Odenkirk being busy

Guadalupe Rosas

You can see, in this episode the consecuences of Walter’s actions through out the season. It was because of his decisions that Jane, and many other Innocent people died and it all came crashing down right to his face. An eye, judging him. It was masterfully done by both the writters and the cast.

DrLAING

Gus definitely saw the picture of Walt. Gus already knows pretty much everything there is to know about Walt.

Marcell

Please notice the air traffic controller was Jane's father making a critical error trying to return to work too soon after the loss of his only daughter. This finale wasn't underwhelming - it was trying to show the butterfly effect of small interactions. Walt would not have come back to Jesse's place if he hadn't talked to Jane's father at the bar. Walt wouldn't have shaken Jesse and turned Jane on her side. Walt could have saved Jane still after these choices but he chose not to. If Walt had chosen to save Jane, the people on those 2 planes would still be alive. The decisions of Walt and Jesse throughout this show will have larger consequences than you might immediately see

Kelsey

the air traffic controller that unintentionally caused the plane collision was Jane's father

Kelsey

super stoked for the next Harry Potter as well!

jherrerakamin

anyone know when the next harry potter might be posted?

ADHDubz

The acting by Aaron Paul in this episode was unbelievable and earned him his first Emmy and Bryan Cranston also won this year as well.

JonSnow21

They are all great, but for me Walt is still the most interesting caracter.

Milorad

Jane was worse than Tuco. Walter killed Jane. Now the 3 best characters are all part of the story: Saul, Gus and Mike. Flashforward reveal Was very underwelming, yet Sykler Scene was amazing. Anna Gunn doesnt get enough praise. And now... Season 3... where the Game really begins.

DrückebergerTV

REDICULOUS to think that the actor who plays Jesse doesn't get any royalties from netflix .... what kind of fukd up deal did his agent make..

Anthony Brown

Love how Pudgey quickly dismissed Skyler when she brought up the 2nd cell phone again 😂 (I know, we’re ALL tired of hearing about that stupid 2nd cell phone). But then Skyler goes on to completely demolish Walt with proof of lie after lie after lie. Each revelation more shocking than the last. It’s one of Skyler’s strongest moments. By the end of the conversation, you don’t even want to defend Walt because you just can’t.

imperial

Jane's dad accidentally said "Jane" instead of "Juliet" then said "disregard", thus nullifying the direction he just gave. That was why the planes crashed into each other. Just sad when you think about it

Rey Jr

Your goddamn right

Rey Jr

I think less symbolism and more just the absolute carnage that Walter has caused. If he doesn't let Jane die then the dad doesn't cause that accident. So really Walter has killed hundreds of people.

Jamiefishing7

Why everyone write Skylar instead of Skyler? 😅

Cs Zoltan

This episode ties in together the titles of the other 3 episodes which also had the cold open of the teddy bear, which, when adjoined, reads : "Seven Thirty-Seven" - "Down" - "Over" - ABQ, with ABQ being the abbreviation for Albuquerque, and '737' the flight model number of the Boeing that went down.

Jackhammer

Fantastic acting from Skylar this episode.

URxBREATHTAKING

"Walter had nothing to do with it" lol he absolutely did

Christopher

lol Spartan, Gus 100% saw that it was Walt. The plane crash isn't really foreshadowing anything, it's just demonstrating cause and effect; how decisions/actions can effect other things. Walt caused the plane crash in a way. He didn't save Jane/let her die, which led to her father being in the mental state he was in, which impacted his job as an air traffic controller, which caused the crash.

Kevin Bandy

This just shows the domino effects of everyone's actions. Because of how distraught he was over his daughter's death/trying to burry it underneath, Jane's father messed up in a crucial job and caused planes to crash, leading to many innocent people dying. It's crazy to think he and Walt also ran into each other at bar and their conversation inspired Walt to save Jesse from his bad situation... In some ways that contributed to his own daughter's death. This show is such a deep character study.

Mark

Also, every episode with the flash forwards hint towards what happens in the final scene with the episode title names. If you put episodes 1, 4, 10, and 13 together they spell out 737 Down Over ABQ. Vince Gilligan is definitely creative I'll give him that! Great reaction though guys and get ready for the official lift off of this show in season 3!

Vito Pagliuca

BRING ON SEASON 3!!!!! so excited for y’all!

micah

The planes crashing was just a signifier of cause and effect between both Walt and Jesse's actions throughout this story so far. Walt making that hard decision to not save Jane's life in order to save Jesse's still impacted so many people's lives including Jane's father. Him deciding to go back to work so soon under a very high-pressure job as an air trafficker, and obviously mentally grieving, caused the death of so many. But it just goes to show how one action, in this case Walts, can leave such a devastating trail of destruction. You may have also missed that the pink bear in Walt's pool is another symbol of Jesse "Pinkman" and he's quite literally drowning after everything he's been through. Walt is also wearing a pink sweatshirt as well in this episode which can also be signified as being in a somewhat similar position to Jesse by losing his family. I think you guys were pretty spot on that the planes crashing is a great indication of everything coming to a head in the main characters lives.

Vito Pagliuca

Just noting that the pink teddy bear is also present in Jane’s mural. Seems particularly relevant to your comment.

Kate

Just a few things I noticed watching this a second time that I have picked up. I think Pudgey had the right idea with Walts pink sweater. At the end with Walt standing there in his pink top and with the pink toy in the pool. I always saw it as a symbol of Walts direct connection to all the trauma he has caused people that night he decided not to flip Jane onto her side to let her live To Jesse and to Janes dad along with his indirect responsiblilty for the death of all the people in that plane due to the emotional state he put on Janes dad. Especially with all the flash forward scenes being black and white but still keeping the pink color on the toy in all of them. The scene where walt walks into that drug house is also one of my favourites with walter being one of the biggest drug manufactures in the country at this point and walking into a location that demonstrates the worst situations he brings upon people. There is also the scene in this episode I noticed after this rewatch with Walt taking care of his new born daughter while talking to Jesse about the daught of someone else he just killed. Which I think shows how much of a psychopath heisenburg now is as he is now perfectly fine with killing someone elses daughter and seeming perfectly calm and guilt free while careing for his own the following day

Sebz

Bear in mind that while not directly responsible, Walt's body count has just dramatically increased. By letting Jane die (not only that, but actually rolling her onto her back when he tried to wake Jesse when she took care to make sure they laid on their side to avoid exactly that happening), butterfly effect of causing her father the grief that caused that accident to happen and kill the occupants of two entire airplanes. I think the impact of that and the narrative point is the effect Walt's decisions and actions are having on others, he's completely decimated Jane's dad's life. Then that pink teddy is a child's toy, that fell from the plane half burnt. I find that haunting. I do think Spartan's criticism is fair and many have said the same, but at same time particularly on rewatches, the tragedy of that chain of events hits hard.

lemmy

I'm sorry y'all neither Heisenberg nor Saul are the real GOATs. They are a pretty big deal but there's only one GOAT and his name is Mike.

HDN

I think this is at least the 4th time I've watched this series and I never get tired of the acting. You can see why this is considered one of the best TV series in history. It would be hard to beat. That scene when Walt goes to rescue Jesse from the drug den just kills me every damn time.

John Neiberger

i can’t help but cry in all the jesse scenes this episode. it’s so fucking sad man… i love him i feel so bad for him

kallista

ohh that is super cool!! thanks for telling us

CpaSpartan Pudgey

So, I think someone already spoiled this a couple of episodes ago.. but incase it was deleted or you didn't see it for whatever reason.. If you look at the titles for episodes 1, 4, 10 and 13.. the episodes that have a flash forward.. they spell out 737 down over Albuquerque.. "A 737 is a commercial jetliner" and "ABQ" is short for Albuquerque.. sorry, not trying to insult but not everbody knows that.. Basically Vince Gilligan has been telling us all season long what the flash forwards mean.. we just didn't know where to look.. well, actually I didn't know where to look.. even though it was in right in front of our faces the whole time... I always thought that was pretty funny, Vince Gilligan trolling the viewers like that..😄 Thanks you guys.. looking foward to the next..

PastaDon

I do have to agree with Spartan that I found that plane crash climax to be a little bit underwhelming given where my mind was wandering throughout the whole season. Still cool though. But this season ending has nothing on the other ones

Sean van Hengel

I dont know if anyone has posted this yet but if you go back through the season and assemble the titles of the episodes that include the flash forwards it tells what happens in the finale. EP1 747 EP4 Down EP10 Over EP13 ABQ

Jason Sadowski

Jesse's devastation broke me! Absolutely heartbreaking.

Ailene Evangelista

Gus said: "Is this one of your agents?" He obviously saw the photo. Heisenberg really caused the planes to crash considering his actions. Remember that each season is better than the last one, objectively speaking.

Jaroslav Dočekal

the aussie accents are great, but you have now been introduced to the OG "Waltuh"

Jared

I'm so glad you guys are enjoying this fantastic show!! I would like to suggest another great show if I can..... Dexter!! :))

Corbyndallas

100%

SuddenImpulse

The Golem was SPOT. ON. I was dying! 😭😭😭

Mike Ramirez

you could say it was Walter fault for the plane crash because he made the decision to let Jain die.( or at least partially to blame) Also, I knew it was a plane crash at the start because one of the vans from the start of the episode had NTSB on the top (National Transportation Safety Board)

Joseph Schiller

The underlying theme of this whole season, which is really brought to life in this episode and explains why they used the flash forward technique, is cause and effect. The chain of causation between Walt and Jesse’s actions, the ripple of the butterfly’s wings, and the devastating consequences that happen a couple of links removed. And of course this really encapsulates the moral guilt of the meth cook. Sure, you’re just cooking the drug, but down that line there’s an addict and the people who suffer around them like their families and potentially victims, etc. Just a little touch of brilliance.
