The Legend of Korra 3x1 Reaction & Review

Comments

The president really is a MORON !

Unique

This is the best villain in the whole franchise IMO. I wish he was the main one for 4 seasons. But this season is great.

Timminson

Why say this? What does this do except alter their perceptions?

Griff

Yeah President Raiko was done dirty, imagine there's finally peace, you get elected as the first president, suddenly you get thrown into water tribe civil war shenanigans from around the world, spirit giants fighting in your city, giant vines turning entire neighborhoods into homeless people, new psychopath airbenders potentially going on rampages. AND SOMEHOW IT REALLY IS ALL THE AVATAR'S FAULT

LESS GO

I’m telling y’all now,y’all gonna lose y’all minds this season lol

Kevin Jenkins

Zaheer is by far Avatar's best villain. The Firelord was a 'great evil' lacking motivation beyond a pathological desire to conquer, but Zaheer has depth depth. Excited to see your reaction to this whole season :)

That scene with Tenzin really hits the feels…tearing up at the thought of the air nation being restored..the kids are so supportive despite not truly knowing the gravity of whats just happened that other airbenders now exist. teared up :’)

In terms of people getting Airbending, it’s kind of a subtle consequence of what they tried to do with Unalaq. He truly did believe in the imbalance in the world Wan caused by severing humans and spirits from each other, each world, physical and spirit are two halves of the same whole and part of leaving the spirit portals open allowed for the world to essentially correct itself, one of the natural imbalances being that there are simply not as many airbenders as there are other benders. The season won’t particularly explain this to you, you just kind of have to pick up on it through this episode. I think where season 2 could’ve been great was if they deepened Unalaq’s desire to have a world reengaged with spirituality. They start it off really well but then plunge him into a sort of madness surrounding his goals and the escalation feels unearned, there’s never any particular urgency esp considering Korra opens the second portal a good bit before the finale.

"so his powerful fighting was probably based off of air bender techniques, so when he got it, it just powered up his already hones fighting style/technique." Excellent point, I hadn't considered that. We have seen that from Korra in S1 that air bender techniques are useful (movement, evasion etc) even when you can't airbend.

So excited to see your reaction to this season, your take so far is everything I wanted to see, you guys get the significance of it all, and yeah, the character interactions really evolve from now on, most satisfying. Re losing the past avatars, it is controversial, and I can see why a lot of people dislike it, but its a great plot device and demonstrates that the show runners are willing to take risks to advance the story. Shows stagnate if you're not willing to shake things up a bit. My take on it, was that the Avatar cycle is exactly that, every 10,000 years they literally start anew. And perhaps that is for the best, the world is evolving and changing dramatically. Even in ATLA we saw that the past avatars advice was becoming less useful, they weren't in touch with technology and social advances, their mindset was thoroughly feudal. Roku f**ked up dealing with Sozin and the Fire Nation's expansion, all of them told Aang to kill the Fire Lord, but he eventually disregarded that and found his own way.

Yeah you guys are right that all the characters and relationships start to feel lived in by this point especially Tenzin and Korra‘s relationship. Don’t get your hopes up too much for Bumi, don’t forget he just got bending at like 40-50 years old lol he’s never gonna be on the level of Tenzin who’s been practicing for his entire life, trained by Aang himself.

Peter Shim

Best season!!!! They’re not ready….

Angelo Burton

Dude was kept in a maximum security white lotus prison cell, as a non bender lol

Brock Percle

My favourite season of the entire Avatar universe is finally here!

Indeed, the fact he seems to have researched air bending history and philosophy so much likely means he also probably analyzed air bending form scrolls at some point, or was able to get a fairly solid conceptualization of the principles that inform their type of bending movements at the least. The strong philosophical mindset/rather spiritual mindset no doubt helps in general as well with this particular bending style.

Please allow S&P the same opportunity you all had to enjoy this experience the same way you all were able to. *You can talk about anything within reason but please:* 1. No character/character arc spoilers 2. No future event/episode hints or spoilers 3. No cheeky hints/semi-vague remarks about spoiler material, future episodes etc. they can be figured out. 4. Enter... Zaheer!!!

Square1ne

Here is some non spoiler context clues in this episode that helped me not be bothered by how good Zaheer is at airbending after first getting it. Clue one: Very philosophical and quotes airbender history. Obviously he has studied it. Clue two: Powerful enough fighter without bending that he required a special isolated prison with a group of guards to feed him through 2 locked gates. Personal conclusion based off this episode: He was obviously a good fighter, studied air benders, so his powerful fighting was probably based off of air bender techniques, so when he got it, it just powered up his already hones fighting style/technique.

Leenis

This is the one I’ve been most looking forward to since TLA lol

This season is amazingggg. I am so excited to see your guys' reactions!

Raiko has devolved from being a lazy and hesitant president to just being a douche in general, which is fine I guess, tho I still wish we could get more background on him. I mean the guy carries an immense amount of governmental weight, but we have like no clue where he came from or anything. I mean we don't necessarily need to know, but it would be nice. Zaheer's introduction is probably one of the best character introductions in any show, period. The references to poetry, the way that he fights, and that line saying that he essentially just left all 4 or 5 of those gaurds to die, after a fight lasting just less than a minute. And the most threatening part about him so far? The fact that he was locked up in a cell like that without even being a bender.
