Breaking Bad 2x6 Uncut Reaction 'Peekaboo'

Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

There is an edit at some point that puts it a few seconds late. It seems to be around the time Jesse goes to check on the kid in the bedroom while Spooge is trying to break open the ATM. It's the only spot I had to adjust for,

Joseph Collier

The the episode is lagging on your end. It's not matching up with the real episode in real time

Justin

Jesse turns into to Walt

Justin

Jesse's humanity doesn't always grow

Justin

I'll never understand guys like Spartan who claim that Breaking Bad is "slow" In the first 13 episodes you've watched, you could write a 100-page book report on the story arc, character development, empathetic thoughts, and intuitive feelings about each episode. My Goodness, does everything need to be microwaved for consumption in 30 seconds?

Jeff Pawlinski

IMHO this episode has always been a pivotal one. For the 1st time we see some downstream real world effects of Walter's "breaking bad". And just how detached Walt is from them, while Jesse experiences them up close. From the dealers to the junkies to the innocents that end up suffering, Jesse literally & figuratively takes all the punches. In spite of this, it seems Jesse's humanity grows as Walter becomes colder. You'd think it would be the opposite.

Robin Lee Melendez

@Julie don't worry they aren't reading it.

SuddenImpulse

Lets try and keep a basic level of decency and respect here please. Its one thing to ask people to follow the rules or edit/reword a comment, but lets not go slinging around direct attacks, insults/namecalling etc. please. Everyone here is paying to be here, and general baseline of mature adult behavior is expected. There are many ways to have a conversation, debate, or disagreement without such things.

SuddenImpulse

Wrong again. Breaking Bad lives up to the expectations anyway so you're crying for no reason. Move along.

Dennis Reynolds

That's exactly what they're doing idiot. If you don't like the comments log the f*ck out.

Dennis Reynolds

I dont think Gretchen & Elliot did anything wrong. I think Walt is just a whiny little baby

Juan

Just stop. Breaking bad is a great show because of the characters and not only the plot. It is a slower paced show which takes it’s time for each character. It won’t be like got where every ep something big happens.

Rey Jr

This literally sets expectations so much it’s unnecessary

Julie

You may have replied to the wrong comment :p but totally agree

Martin

Yall people always commenting "starts picking up" are annoying as hell. Yall be saying the same comment all the way through the series, like damn just let them experience it for themselves.

Daniel

Spartan is a Resident Evil fan, nice! These meth heads really were like out of a hillbilly horror movie.

James K

I know the show is still slow right now but it starts picking up the pace in season 3- starting at some point in season 3 {I won't say when) all the way until the end of season 5 is one hell of a rollercoaster ride... insane episodes 1 after another with very little filler. 3 of the best characters of the entire show haven't even been introduced to you yet. And seasons 3, 4 and 5 are without a doubt head and shoulders better than the 1st 2 seasons....... Anyway, great reactions as usual, you both pick up things pretty quickly and do a great job at dissecting the episodes.

Dennis Reynolds

I also wanna point out, that jesse's rage confronting the two meth heads was not caused by the stolen meth anymore. I think he is mostly fuming about the kid's situation. That got him into the mood way more effective than his pipe before.

Millennial Designs

this episode really shows jesse’s humanity, for one of the first times, truly deep down. i love him. it also sort of starts to show the opposite of walter.

kallista

Addiction is a hideous thing

Guadalupe Rosas

Carmen wasn't flirting with Walt she was pitying him

Guadalupe Rosas

OMG will you shut the fuck up about "morality"?? I swear you people are so damn annoying, don't you have anything else to say about this show other than commenting about Walts immorality every damn episode till the rest of the series??

Milorad

Where did I say walt was forced into cooking meth? I said the cancer diagnosis was the driving factor behind him entering the drug trade when it all first happened, that's all. Stopping putting words into other peoples mouths you 🤡. Jesse was also cooking for probably a few years before he met walt again, so to put that choice on walt is delusional

Jeezleberry

Walt was not forced to do anything. He chose to do so instead of take money from Gretchen and Eliot. People get cancer every day and do not manufacture and distribute schedule 1 drugs. Walt likes it. Using a free will defense will never work when you attempt to justify and rationalize Walt's behavior but do the opposite with Jesse. Jesse wouldn't have had an RV, the cooking materials or more knowledge to cook w/o Walts blackmail. Most philosophers do not believe in free will btw. It doesn't make any sense.

Shawn Brink

R.I.P. little bug during opening scene.. Sketch, Scrooge, Poodge or whatever his name was, not so much.. Thanks for the video Spudgey and crew behind the scenes.. you guys are doing an awesome job!!

PastaDon

Totally second this tip!! Dialogue heavy script.. The characters are the foundation.. what they are doing and the things that happen are the subject of choices..

PastaDon

if only had jesse had politely asked for the two degenerate drugs addicts to give back the money they stole from him, everything would have gone roses and dandelions... walt truly is satan himself bc he didn't follow the hundreds of examples of non-violent, peace-loving drug-dealers

Jeezleberry

actually walter only used blackmail to force jesse to cook in the first episode. Later after they both try to stop, I think episode 5, walt comes to him again, after jesse was already cooking meth with badger, and made an offer. jesse is in the meth cooking business of his own free-will, not driven by desperation after a cancer diagnose

A little analysis (considering only things we know up to this episode): I really think that talk between Walt and Gretchen says a lot about their past, even considering all the blanks we still have. When you take everything into account what we know up to this point, all that was said on the birthday party, their reactions to Walts diagnosis, and especially Gretchens shocked eyes when Walt claimed that they had "cut him out", we can very strongly assume that 1. Gretchen & Elliot never wanted Walt gone and would have had him back any time 2. They never tried to keep any success or money from him and would have always shared IF he just reached out. 3. it's quite likely that even back then, it has been Walters pride that caused the trouble. Maybe he did not feel appreciated enough, did not get the applause he thought he deserved, was not treated as the centerpiece of their team and finally tried to make a point by leaving. Of course he is now frustrated to the bones; and the anger that he chose to leave an empire behind must have eaten him up from the inside all these years. I think that explains Walts motivation and attitude towards Gretchen here very good.

Millennial Designs

Most of the tv shows and movies do that because there are strict labor laws governing how long minors in the entertainment industry can work and be on set, so hiring twins essentially allows the crew to film for longer. For example : Ben from (Friends) played by twins.

This is a good tip--it might help to filter out some elements for interpretation, because not everything you see is a "plot point." Although I am enjoying their speculations. And incidentally, this is one area where Game of Thrones went far wrong. In Breaking Bad, the writers were really careful about not driving the plot where the characters wouldn't go. It's the other way around--the plot unfolds because of the way the characters make decisions consistent with how they've been established. In the last season of Game of Thrones, the characters are largely reduced to tools to take the plot where the writers wanted.

Kate

Where’s my money, bitch?!

David J

I always felt like this episode is when the show started getting really good. I can't wait to see how you guys react to the rest of the season.

David

A tip I would add for watching Breaking Bad. Watch it like it is a “character driven” story, instead of a plot driven one. Although you do this a lot better than I did when I first watched it. Look at it like everything that happens is something that effects the characters, and the action and plot is a bonus that happens around it.

Sean van Hengel

Pudgey’s idea about Skyler’s dress at the birthday party is interesting. It’s the kind of thing these writers would have thought through in the writers room.

Greg Nelson

Fun fact: the child in this episode was played by two identical twins! Can you tell them apart?

Steffen Eide

Nah no worries. I have watched BB many times but I don't have specific episodes as well memorized as some other shows. We welcome and appreciate advice like this since us mods sometimes can't remember to cover everything. Sometimes they haven't reacted to the content being mentioned yet and it DOES come in handy as we forward it to them, so feel free to make such suggestions in the future. As long as its spoiler free like this, its very welcomed. =)

SuddenImpulse

The carbon monologue reflects what happened to Walt. Walt made Grey Matter a lot of money and he has nothing to show for it.

Demented Avenger

Hah well you guys were definitely right about the foreshadowing with the bug getting crushed in the beginning. I LOVE the scene between Walt and Gretchen. So much history to unpack in one conversation. If there is one defining moment of Walt’s entire life, it’s his departure from Gray Matter.

imperial

Oh I thought that might be the case. Thanks for the reply! It actually might be subtitled by default. My fault

James Woodford

Generally a lot of reactors (including these) tend to react in a batch (say 2-3 episodes) and edit in a batch, so I am guessing they probably have already watched that episode before seeing this. I don't particularly remember the details there but I am sure its solid advice.

SuddenImpulse

Hope I’m not violating any rules but I’d recommend having subtitles on at the star of next expisode unless you speak Spanish.

James Woodford

Please remove this and review the posting rules. We try our best to repost them on each video in a timely manner. I appreciate and understand the excitement, but they can only watch this for the first time once. We don't want to pre-empt expectations of when, how or why characters or events they haven't seen yet are going to occur. Thank you and enjoy the reaction. =)

SuddenImpulse
