"This whole Bolin Desna situation is so weird!" Spartan said, while watching two mecha avatars battling each other in New York right before holy Ginora comes from the heavens delivering salvation 😂

I’m willing to take a step further and say there’s parts of book 3 that exceed ATLA above and beyond.

Tiang Maphosa

Gotta repeat the sentiment of my fellow fans before me. I didn't LOVE season 2 prior but your reactions have helped me come to appreciate it more. Season 3 is arguably the BEST season (fan favorite) and can't wait for you to experience this roller coaster. I won't say who but there's a character I've been raving about since their debut that just gets better with time. So excited for this!

Dan Lee

I think the writing for that was fine. A lot of that was explained either directly or indirectly through subtext. I think too many people just expect all important exposition to be spoon fed to them when in reality that is a hallmark sign of low quality writing.

SuddenImpulse

I actually interpret Jinora's "light" as her showing Korra the light inside Vaatu which then allowed Korra to pull Raava out of Vaatu. Jinora kinda "lit the way" to find Raava's light, otherwise, it would have taken 10,000 years for Raava to finally come out of Vaatu....again, my interpretation.

Nate Terry

For the record you guys definitely had the best reaction to this episode I was impressed during the episode how you loved it with all the emotional scenes and how the hit you. I felt the same way. I saw a Article online that said this is the best episode of Korra I disagree but I love seeing underrated episodes get it's due. This very much reminds me of the book one finale in avatar and I personally do think this was a top-tier finale but I think sometimes ppl can overthink things after we watch it. Unalaq is honestly simple. A really intelligent substantive spiritual leader leading a world and a tribe that are becoming increasingly more frivolous/unserious and disconnected from the spirits. In time he builds up some animosity towards these other unserious people/cultures. Then he's presented with the opportunity to literally reshape the world in his image and likeness. Regardless of how much it would hurt the world around he would do it because he wouldn’t care about the world around him. He’s just trying to tear down the world as they know it and create another world where spirits and man are together and he is the new leader. He literally says this in EP. 12. His motivation is power and the the rewriting of history. Like If I could undo imperialism across the world and make a more just world while gaining power I would do almost anything to achieve that reality. Unalaq feels the same. The world is fucked up and we need to start over essentially 😂 Do they flesh out his past? Well no not here it's like that's always required of a great villain. Joker was a great menacing villian in dark knight but I didn't no what made Joker Joker. But everyone loved that Joker brought choas to the story. When the Joker movie came out it gave us a story of how he got there but we still thought he was great villain before that. Unalaq isn't great fr but far from what ppl make it seem. I love how smart/strong he is and how much he teaches Korra ab the spirits and you'll see how impactful he is and will be in his death. This episode for me will always be defined by the talk tenzin gave Korra, the team defending Korra, The fight, the tree of time, Korra's growth, etc it's all awesome. Can't wait for the next season it's even better! Great reaction.

Don't spoil even if to get them to understand Unalaq but hey u fighting the good fight 😂

Kamau Catching

Your comment makes me wish the writers had done some things differently in order to make Unalaq's motives as you describe them more clear. Right now he really does seem like he just wanted power and darkness for no reason. A different approach could have been that he wanted to unite the physical and spiritual realms (parallel to him uniting the two Water Tribes? but changing it so it is truly to save the spiritual state of the South and not his selfish goals), and to do so he needed to open the portals. Korra for some reason refuses/is unable to, so he ends up making a deal with Vaatu to become an Avatar to be able to open the portals himself. Showing Unalaq kinda in disagreement with Vaatu (and not as besties as we saw here) but accepting the price to pay to unite the two worlds could have added more complexity to his character. And THEN he becomes more power hungry because of Vaatu's influence and does everything he does in the series. Show us the slow corruption of a character that truly wanted to unite at first, making us understand his motives, but was ready to go to extremes in order to do what's right in his eyes, and got burned in the end. Korra defeats him and leaves the portals open, adding an element of tragedy in that he had to die to achieve his goal.

I literally can’t wait for the next few episodes, and next two seasons!! I agree, they could have gone more into his backstory, but as a whole I love this season. Is it my least favorite of all of the Avatar franchise, maybe, but I’m still getting these characters and this world, so I’m happy. Plus the fight scenes in Korra are really a step up IMO, you have more masters and older people who have had time to get better, and in time I feel like benders have gotten better in general (Ex: more people being able to lightning bend and metal bend) so it gives a lot to be able to work with. Also I think Korra and Mako didn’t work bc of the fact they were ALWAYS arguing and never on the same page. I feel like they just knew it wasn’t meant to be.

Stephanie Hundley

I don’t think that Unalaq is a generic villain and he does have a backstory. He had a goal - uniting the spirit and human world. His measures to achieve that were just too much and drastic. He was willing to fuse with Vaatu in order to create a dark Avatar that could make this happen. At the end he became too power hungry and violent. Darkness figuratively and literally consumed him. Slight spoiler for s3: Unalaqs backstory will be expanded a bit more in S3.

Jasmin

Thank you so much for your first paragraph. Unalaqs intentions aren't mysterious have always thought he thought he found Vaaatu the same way the logic of the promise and power is spot on.

Get ready for (almost) everyone's favorite season and perhaps the best in the Avatar franchise, you'll absolutely love it! Also, since Books 3 and 4 were ordered together, the story is actually connected this time and it gave the writers a chance to plan things long-term. Also, in regards to book two, the creators did vaguely state multiple times that there were big production issues with this one.

Stefan Gheorghiev

What they are missing is a understanding for each other.

Jasmin

get ready for one the best seasons in the avatar world. season 3 of Korra is pretty awesome.

Daflo9

I think I already said this but Watching this season with you guys made it so much sweeter. Like ive seen this season so many times and each time it's better! Considering its my least favorite I really enjoy it this time around. You guys really enjoyed it and seeing that its pretty awesome! BUT season 3 tho!!!!!!!! Oh BOY! I can't believe it's finally Here!!! Best season of Korra!!!!!! And its crazy you guys got a little emotional through the end of this season. Just wait this new season! You guys will tear up for sure!! 🥹🥲 Ohhh can't wait.. to continue this great journey with you guys! Best Reaction Couple!!!!!!!!! 🙌🏻😌

Elias Flores

Honestly, I kind of just thought it was because Republic City is the NYC equivalent in their world. Major hub for a lot of things.

K

I can't wait for season 3. I think it's as good as anything from ATLA.

Daniel Castro

The season generally reviews decently well. The lowest rated episode on imdb is 7.5 and the highest is 9.5. I think the internet gives distorted impressions of peoples views on these things.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the moment we've all been waiting for. Season fucking 3 baby let's go!

Gemineye

I genuinely enjoyed watching book 2 ten times more whilst watching your reactions. Cannot wait for book 3, it is amazing!!

- I think that, at some point in time, Unalaq entered the spirit world at the northern portal and found Vaatu. Vaatu prob told Unalaq that he could become the dark avatar = promise of power. And I think Unalaq just wanted power. And maybe, besides that, he also wanted spirits to roam free. But when they merged, Vaatu gained the upper hand which is why they looked more like a spirit. Vaatu prob knew this from the beginning. He used Unalaq to get free. - Personally I was a bit confused about Jinora light attack. Where did that come from, and why did that reignite Raava? But seeing that all the dark spirits were able to do 'something', I guess it is plausible that the spirit of Jinora (normal, not dark, so light then) should also be able to do 'something'. Also, because they said that darkness can't exist without light, then Raava was never completely gone. But that then also means that Vaatu isn't completely gone either...

I actually enjoy Book2 a lot against popular consensus. My really only critique of book2 was the Korra/Mako romance(I actually don't need a romance), but how the writers treated it was not satisfying. Now, something Ive been waiting to talk about since Book2 of ATLA! the writers world-building in Avatar universe is so good. I know so many ppl who just didn't understand this finale...Korra turning blue and having a giant death match seemed out of nowhere but, if we go back to ATLA, we learned from the Guru teaching Aang to unlock his chakras(inner spiritual energy)[not to be confused with the avatar spirit] remember that the avatar has 2 spirits in the same body, Raava and the human's spirit. The Guru was trying to have Aang the human unlock his chakras and have inner peace so that he could be in touch with Raava's spirit to have mastery of the avatar state. Then in book3 of ATLA, the lion turtle tells Aang that before time, "we bend not the elements, but your own spiritual energy"(paraphrased). now, fast-forward to this finale, with Raava gone, Korra had to "bend her own spiritual energy" just like the lion turtle and Tenzin had said which allowed her to bend her energy into a giant body. I don't know if the writers knew how they were gonna connect all of this from ATLA and Korra at the time of ATLA being written. did they have an idea of how the avatar began? did they know how Raava and Vaatu story would pan out? If not, it is extremely well connected..and I don't see a flaw in the spiritual stuff as it connects between both shows as it pertains to lore

Nate Terry

Unalaq went to republic city because its the home place of the Avatar and his legacy. He went to destroy the city that is the symbol of the avatar starting with his statue.

Dream217

Excited for the next two seasons! Can’t wait for y’all’s reactions!

JT_45

Book 3 is my fav, in my opinion its also the best. Be prepare bc its going to be awesome

Anderson

As for Unalaq, he’s just the worst villain. Everyone knows it, even the people who wrote him. It’s ok.

K

Regarding Korra and Mako, they’re both forceful personalities. Mako is a fire bender, and Korra has the temperament of a fire bender at times. As a couple, and even as friends, they often bickered and snapped at each other. For some people, that kind of relationship can be exhausting. People romanticize “arguing like an old married couple” but the couples I’ve seen grow old together may have teased each other, but the bickering and snipping was rare. And when you’ve had a long day on the beat, or being the avatar, the last thing you want is to fight at home too. It’s ok for people to break up simply because they aren’t enjoying being in a relationship with the person. Also, people rarely marry their high school sweethearts. Korra and Mako do love each other. They care very much about each other. They want the best for each other. And honestly, they think each other is physically attractive. They just don’t know how to be supportive of each other. It’s not an “I want to grow old with you by my side” kind of love. It’s an “I’ve got you back” kind of love. It’s still a lovely thing to have, and their relationship highlights that there’s many different ways to love someone. As someone who was once a teenage girl, I’ve loved at that age, only to realize that what I was feeling was attraction and at best friendship. If I’d stayed with one particular person, I’d be living a very different life, one I might regret.
