i cant wait for season 3, u guys are gonna flip

Carma

Aang's daughter is named Kya, named after Katara's mother.

Kevin

I love that this is one of the weaker episodes of Szn 2 but u guys still thought it was great. Szn 2 has its problems like anything but to me Szn is epic and the drawbacks are way overblown. I actually prefer this story line to the one many of us thought we were going to get at the season finale. I thought Korra would have to relearn her bending like u guys but like Pudgy said we kinda did that before. Maybe it would have been good but I prefer this direction. I liked this episode but 3/4 are the epic ones I'm looking forward to! Great reaction!

The fish was a one time deal because the ocean spirit merged with Aang's avatar spirit. Even when he was out of control other times, it wasn't in that form, but the ocean spirit was furious at the death of its other half. Also, having the boat explode into the sky was pretty definitive and a shocking death (with a suicide!) for a kids show. Not much room for question marks there. I think only a firebender or airbender might have survived that like Zuko did for the pirates, but a no longer a waterbender and Amon? Toast. Last, I wish I'd been the one to notice this, but I read someone's interpretation of the scene where Korra uses the Avatar state to beat the airbender kids: it's Aang playing with his grandkids.

Pudgey, you’re sweater is adorable!

Aang and Korra don't "learn" to control the Avatar state. It's more like seeing it as "access." If you remember back, Aang didn't train to master the Avatar state. The guru episode was showing him that his chakras were blocked and that's why he didn't have full access to it. once he opened his chakras(and then the Azula lightning/Oozai battle) he had access to the avatar state while conscious. Aang had internal emotional turmoil which was preventing him from being "at peace" with himself so that he could access the avatar state willingly. Korra only had 1 real internal conflict that she overcame by the end of book1. Most of her other conflicts tended to be external with ppl, or situations. She knows who she is, and she embraces being the avatar(Aang didn't want to even be the avatar). Once all the internal conflicts were overcame, the avatar has access to the avatar state as a "fully realized" avatar.

You got it backwards Spartan 🤣. Or maybe I misunderstood you but for clarification, glowing for a moment is what shows true mastery over the Avatar state. You just draw the knowledge of the past Avatars for a moment and channel it towards a specific action with full precision and control. That's what Aang did at the end and what Kyoshi and Roku were shown doing in their flashbacks as fully realized Avatars. Just giving in yourself to the Avatar state and glow all the time wreaking havoc is often a sign of poor control. You also put yourself into more risk of getting harmed during the Avatar state by doing that, so not ideal.

The changes in the Southern Tribe are a textbook example of what often happens with occupied territories post-colonization. The economic stimulus of industrialization and intregration with the rest of the world often leads to the abandonment of certain traditions and even the slow erosion of cultural identity. Both Unalaq and Tonraq make valid points: On one hand, festival such as that bring in money, bring back jobs and stimulate economic growth. On the other hand, as Unalaq points out, some traditions have purpuse and the South's weak connection with the spirits has left them defenseless against these aggressive spirits. Really looking forward to seeing your reactions to the rest of the series <3

You’re good I wasn’t taking it in any way and vice versa, and I know I’m throwing in assumptions but that’s only cause we can’t talk about what really happens so I’m just throwing other potential scenarios. I get what you’re saying but to just ditch your air bending/spiritual master when all of season 1 you were basically denying his teachings to now say I need someone else is just dumb to me, the one time she finally listened to Tenzin and meditated on her dreams she finally connected with Aang so he knows somewhat of what he’s talking about, she barely even gave him a chance. And she may be struggling with air but all avatars start training at 16 so they learn most of the other elements as adults too so I can’t excuse korra for that. & just like Unalaq is the only one to demonstrate fighting spirits, tenzin is legit the only airbending master so she don’t have a choice. Just like in ATLA when toph said “I know y’all are in your feelings but Aang needs to learn fire and Zuko is the only option” and that was her mindset about a former enemy. That’s the biggest contradiction of Korra to me. “I’m the avatar but I don’t need air…I don’t need my spiritual side but actually now I do but not from you who’s been saying I need it the entire time”. It’s just as frustrating as her Mako relationship conversations. Her character development doesn’t carry over to the next season for me, they just restart her like it’s the first episode of the series

I LOVE VARICK. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU SEE MORE OF HIM. AAAAAAA

So since this is purely over text and things can get misinterpreted, I just want to make sure its clear that this is just a friendly disccusion and I don't want my replies to be read as if I am trying to argue/be hostile towards you. That is absolutely not my intent here. =) "but to say being with the only airbending master in the entire world isn’t gonna result in mastering airbending when that master has 3 kids who were fighting adults last season is crazy to me " I never said it could not happen, I said it wouldn't necessarily. There is no guarantee. Every avatar struggles with a certain type of bending, Korra struggled with Air, and she was learning it as an almost adult, whereas Tenzins kids were born airbenders and had him as a father from baby onwards. Previous avatars have struggled to learn things even when being taught by masters, and masters that assumedly might have had a number of successful prior students. "but you can’t say if she connected with her past lives like Tenzin was hoping and fully mastered her spiritual side/avatar state that she couldn’t have learned something to help with the spirits," You are right, I can't say that, but I never said that. We don't KNOW if that could happen or not or how likely. This is knowledge we are assuming Korra might be able to achieve that even Aang did not possess as an airbending master and avatar that went on this journey himself. We DO know that someone she had just witnessed doing it, handily and easily defeated the threat, right then and there. If you see a solution present, you are going to try and obtain that solution first and foremost, not take a big gamble that isn't directly related to a solution. Its a lengthy journey with no guaranteed outcome, vs someone we know for a fact was able to deal with the threat that was already right there who she could potentially learn from. Tenzin could have also let her attempt to learn this bending form while they were all there together and give her some extra training on the side, and postponed the airbender culture trip until after she had attempted to learn that bending from Unalaq. That's the best of both worlds, and far more pragmatic and responsible imho. There was no real need for him to leave on the tour right then and there, at least not that was stated. " I’m sure her uncle could’ve held it down at the tribe while she finishes her training" This is another assumption though. Why are we assuming this? What if a bunch of spirits attacked, overwhelmed him, and obliterated the village? What if she doesn't in fact learn how to combat them through this trip? There are other things I would like to bring up on why I do not think Tenzin would be successful in this, as well intended as he is, but that goes into spoiler territory, content they have not seen yet. You have to analyze characters by looking at the situation from their experiences and their perspectives, not from the outside where we possess information they don't possess.

SuddenImpulse

Yeah I had a feeling this would be a problem for this season lol

Aang’s childrens names are Tenzin Bumi and Kya. Kya is named after Katara’s mother. The female twin from the Northern water tribe that’s super monotone is voiced by Aubrey Plaza

Destinee Yang

We can’t say Tenzin’s trip wouldn’t have helped because she never went on it but to say being with the only airbending master in the entire world isn’t gonna result in mastering airbending when that master has 3 kids who were fighting adults last season is crazy to me but okay, and yea Tenzin was powerless but so was Korra with her current avatar state but you can’t say if she connected with her past lives like Tenzin was hoping and fully mastered her spiritual side/avatar state that she couldn’t have learned something to help with the spirits, I’m sure a waterbending avatar could tell her the secrets of the North Pole that were lost to the south cause of the 100 year war or some other solution to commune with the spirits. Aang could connect with his past lives instantly and travel to the spirit world cause of his upbringing and traveling the temples, he was getting spiritual avatar training without even realizing it which is exactly what Tenzin was planning. I’m sure her uncle could’ve held it down at the tribe while she finishes her training, she’s always just looking for a fight and goes with whoever can help her with that. Whole first season she ignores her spiritual side, and now the first time she’s interested in it is when a fight is involved.

Book 2 was a rush job, it shows in the writing and even the animation. First half is pretty rough, gets better the second half. There's still some good moments and lore. I think everyone agrees this was the worst of the four seasons, and doesn't help it was sandwiched between to better seasons.

Trainer Red

I hope you enjoy book 2. I personally love it. I agree with Korra's decision to have a new teacher even though she could have been nicer about it. Avatars of the past had multiple teachers guiding them, and travelled the world. Which are things Korra never really got to do. There is a lot of good stuff in this book, and I am glad you enjoyed the first one. Also the animation is a bit different this season Studio Pierrot did the first 6 episodes, and episode 9. Studio Mir the original animators did season 2 episode 7, 8, 10, and the rest of the show.

Jeron Edwards

North Korea power up yeet

Gemineye

Not the biggest fan of season 2 personally but worth it for Varrick alone haha

Gemineye

While Korra could have been nicer about it, I would definitely agree, she was technically right. Tenzin was not being sensible in this context, his air temple trip wasn't going to necessarily result in her mastering air bending, and Tenzin was completely powerless against a new seemingly potentially major threat that appeared. The only one that was able to handle that threat, is who she decided she needed to prioritize learning a type of bending from. If she had gone with Tenzin, and this spirit situation became a bigger issue, everyone would be screwed, she wouldn't be able to help, because air bending wouldn't have helped and her avatar state hadn't helped either.

SuddenImpulse

This season is a lot of fun! Let’s get started 🙌🏻

Drew

Book 2 lost me episode 1…haven’t mastered air yet but peace out Tenzin 🤦🏾‍♂️

TC24

I agree with Spartan the quickness of Korra’s power ups threw me off. I get that we saw it in ATLA so we didn’t need an entire season but an episode could have been helpful. BTW the sister is named Kya. She’s named after Katara’s mom.
