The Legend of Korra 1x8 Reaction & Review

Also you can’t compare the power levels of everyone to ATLA. In ATLA they were kids in the midst of a war…they had no choice but to stand up and fight for their freedom. In Korra, they’ve all grown up in peace and balance, even Tenzin & Lynn’s generation. They never had to fight for their survival or stand up for others bc the GAANG took care of that before they reached maturity.

Spartan you gotta listen to pudgey a bit. She might be on to something 😎

Joseph Peterson

In response to the power creep Spartan was talking about, I personally feel TLoK is more realistic than TLA. Like, on paper you have basically children leading a war against a whole nation, as you mentioned Aang and crew fought and defeated armies on the daily without much struggle. Then you have situations like when Mai took out a bunch of high-security prison guards with knives. Like it’s fun and cool and all but very for the young-teen audience. I think the combat and power levels in Korra are way more realistic. But it might just be personal preference. But there are special situations that do feel… inconsistent… lol

"I am the solution." Is one of the best moments in the franchise. Absolutely epic. Your reaction didn't disapoint guys well done !. Loving this journey 👏 can't wait for you to get deep into Korra. Its a journey 😁. Glad your enjoying it so far.

Yess!!!!

Love the reaction! A few points om Tenzin though. Aang was trained by the monks while Tenzin probably only had Aang as a teacher instead of an entire nation. Also as Avatar, Aang learned much faster than other benders and that probably helps him with airbending too.

Lmfao pudgy knowing notorious thugs is hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Kind of like U.S. congress

lol ummm Naga is she/her (referencing the intro), not he/him. Spartan's guess of Tenzin's age was really spot on.

I watched ATLA & Korra back to back and again I prefer ATLA on everything but the Villians and the action sequences

Tenzin says Beifong’s name in the first episode. “Lin, you are looking radiant as usual” Also, Yue said the Moon was the first waterbender. There is no animal And yes, Tenzin could BODY all of them, but they hid in plain sight & had electric gloves. He and Korra are usually the first targets because they can beat mostly everyone solo

@Ryan HOA's are a great example lol

I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE AHHH

It's def annoying but it's lowkey realistic lol I mean lots of older people in positions of power like that in real life politics are also very incompetent lol

Ryan

I do believe the moon itself is the "guide" for waterbenders

Korra has a lot of good in it. Most of the hate comes from more obvious things later on

I think the point of the councils behavior is to show they are basically not only easily influenced by Tarlocks particular form of "charismatic" politcking, but also to at least some extent paid off by Tarlock. That said I do agree with the criticisms that giving them at least a little more depth would have been nice 100%

SuddenImpulse

Pudgy made an intriguing throw away comment, comparing Zuko to Asami. Some parallels with parental figures and being an outcast, but their temperaments are quite different.

Lindsay Mathieson

Nice to see the councilmen/women are just as naive as ever. Literally all it would take is a single instance of just one of them siding with Tenzin to give them more depth and realism, but no. I really dig the new team Avatar here. There’s just something awesome about the aesthetic of a group of teens going into the city at night and hanging out in their car, listening to the police scanner until they hear some action. I just wish we got some actual scenes of them hanging out and waiting for stuff to start going down. Tarrlok’s manufactured protest is some grim stuff. Take away the bending and that’s real life. The bit where Tarrlok is looking around for a way to get at Korra and spots Asami is so messed up. He just blatantly goes for the politically acceptable target. Korra standing between the people and police, ready to start fighting, is one of my favorite shots of the show. It was one of her most heroic moments to date. I’m almost sad that we didn’t see her fight the police, that would have been a crazy battle. The confrontation with Tarrlok is great. I love that Korra refused to budge. The fight scene is also super creative, and makes great use of the environment. The water bubble + ice daggers might be the single coolest waterbending move of all time. Korra wasn’t holding back at all. She had Tarrlok defenseless, and still knocks him around with earthbending and was about to hit him with fire before he started bloodbending. How far do you think she was going to go? Was she going to kill him? It would have been interesting to see what happened if Korra did kill him/take him out. I think it could be cool to see other powerful people in the city react to these sort of unilateral avatar choices (which seems to historically have been a thing, with Chin, Sozin, Ozai, etc.). It would also significantly undermine the Equalist propaganda. How do you keep people riled up against the Avatar if she just went out and killed the face of nonbender oppression?

YounesCuppino

Yeah don't hold back if you like the show. Don't feel like you need to tone it down or whatever. I know several people who preferred Legend of Korra over Legend of Aang. Mostly for the more mature themes. Also, I know it seems like they tried to put characters like Bolin and Sokka in the same box. But the characters are definitely distinct. As I see it, Sokka's intellect went into Asami, and his down-to-earth goofiness went into Bolin.

Jonathanese

Yep you are on target with all of that. They don't have one, there is just what you mentioned. You can even kind of see the ocean push/pull tide influence in a lot of the waterbending movements, especially with Katara.

SuddenImpulse

Interesting point you make re the Water Benders Spirit animal - I don't think they really have one, for them its the Moon and the tides, they live with and on the ocean and developed water bending from the push/pull of the tides. Also, they are the only tribe to have the two spirits (the Koi Tua and La) controlling their element actually live in the physical world with them.

Lindsay Mathieson

Omg same😭

FINALLY OMG. i swear i started getting withdrawal😭😅
