Comments

She's 17-18

Farmer John

Aang died at the age of 66, so about 53 years after the ATLA finale. Since Korra is 17 at the start of LoK, exactly 70 years have passed since the ATLA finale.

"I, am the solution" so badass gives me chills every time

Eshwar Tangirala

I agree with you, but I didn't mean OP in the sense that is often used, as people tend to abuse that term. What I meant was simply that, if you have a bender, regardless of talent or capability, and you have a bloodbender, 9 times out of 10 the bloodbender is going to win that fight unless they are attacked in a way that disallows them from bloodbending. This is not really the case with any other form of bending, expect perhaps combustion bending. You are right that its balanced out by the restrictions and limited number of people that can do it, but I mean more a 1 vs 1 fight situation. Chi blocking is also very powerful against benders, but it is a bit limited in that you have to be right up next to the bender and land enough successive hits to disable them fully.

SuddenImpulse

Yeah maybe we’ll know once Kioshi’s movie comes out.

Aang was said to have lived only 40 years after the ATLA finale. And Korra is 16/17? If I’m not mistaken so almost 60 years have gone by

Destinee Yang

I don't think bloodbending was initially that OP tbh. Don't get me wrong, it was AF when you could use it but originally having only 2 known benders that could use it like once a month made it pretty impractical and well balanced in comparison to other bendings. Taking away those handicaps is definitely what makes it OP 😅. But I guess it still has very few users to be that impactful in the bigger picture.

KaijinGarou

I know you didn't say the creators confirmed this. I'm just saying I'm pretty sure they didn't and arguing why I don't see anything there. I think Rangi and Roku look nothing alike, although I guess it depends on what version of Rangi you're looking at as we didn't get to see her official design yet I think. Unless that's the one from the mobile game, which definitely looks nothing like Roku xD.

KaijinGarou

Yeah that’s why I said , I’m not sure if it was confirmed by the writers. I never said it was true, Rangi and Roku do favor each other though as I said .

Pudgey kills me. I may not know what she's talking or laughing about and still makes me laugh with her 🤣

KaijinGarou

That might be just you. I don't find any of those characters to look alike, especially Rangi and Roku. I'd need to beat my brain out to find the resemblance there. Korra could somewhat remind of Katara but only because they're the same nation and share eye and skin color, but they're built very different and I at least find their face shapes quite different too. I doubt that was ever a thing and much more that any creator mentioned it. I didn't hear of it and I've watched and read a few interviews. And I don't see it either.

KaijinGarou

You're correct Spartan, there is an adult Aang animated movie coming out in October 2025 that will feature all of team Avatar.

Mzuka

I mean, I think we need to understand that the Avatar is not invulnerable. Remember that when the Avatar is NOT in the avatar state, they are just "exceptional" benders. It's only in the Avatar state when they start exhibiting "godlike" bending. Any person can be an exceptional bender if they have the chops for it. Look at Azula, she naturally excelled at bending. Katara became a natural too. Toph was a natural. In Legend of Korra, it's not farfetched to see someone like Yakone be exceptional enough to best Aang while he's NOT in the avatar state, which would then trigger it for defensive purposes.

Nate Terry

10/10 reaction! Few things I want to further clarify: I've seen people confuse this before so not a big deal, but Katara was from the Southern water tribe, just like Korra is. The Northern water tribe is where Sokka met his first girlfriend, Korra learned more proficient waterbending, and Aang fused with that water spirit temporarily to become that water monster. As someone else said, Bloodbending is still extremely rare (you correctly mentioned Hama and Katara who wouldn't teach someone that) but Yakone and consequently Tarlok are anamolies. Any random bloodbender couldn't do these things, just like how only Yakone and Tarlock could bend without the full moon (something neither Hama or Katara could do), they also are far more powerful and skilled at blood bending. They are in a sense blood bending prodigies, like Azula was a fire bending prodigy and Toph and Earth bending prodigy. Bloodbending is definitely a little OP in general, since bending requires power from inside oneself and has a physical aspect to it, and bloodbending is all about taking control over someones body, but these two are basically on super-steroids and so are able to bend so many people. Just like chi blocking, it doesn't really matter too much how good a bender someone is, just that they are caught off guard and able to be attacked by the blood bending. If Yakone was able to attack first, he almost certainly could have bloodbended Ozai into submission. Ozai was a very powerful firebender but he still needs control of his body or he can't really do much, hence why Aang made sure to bind his hands and feed immediately once he had defeated him.

SuddenImpulse

Lin is one of my favorite characters in the series. I do feel like blood bending is seriously op tho.

Oulianor Timothee

Yeah that’s why I said , I’m not sure if it was confirmed by the writers.

Bloodbending has always been OP but the reason yakone is so good is that he’s legit an anomaly. Also it seems he was older than Aang so think about him training with it while Aang was still in the ice

Jahari Fields

This is just a theory that does the round every so often.

Invisigoth99

Also the Moon was the original bender for the Water benders.

A fun fact You guys might like is and I don’t know if this was confirmed by the writers but usually the next avatar in line looks like the spouse of the previous avatar. So Kioshi’s wife looked like Roku Roku’s wife look like Aang and Aangs wife, Katara looks like Korra.
