so happy you guys are liking it!

Carma

Toph’s last name is literally beifong idk how you guys forgot that 😄

JeremyRD LaMaxima

Aang was a 12 year old and he was not at all annoying to me or my friends and family. Not to mention that he was an air nomad. His people didn’t like to fight and stuff avoided violence. Korra is a teenager and later an adult. You should know the difference between these characters not to mention that even as a teenager korra was still annoying asf. Aang was not even annoying and more understandable to me.

JeremyRD LaMaxima

I’m just saying, me, both my siblings that I grew up watching the show with, and about a handful of other friends I knew watched it at the time it was premiering, all had one opinion in common: Aang pretty much sucks until book 3, and even then when you really think about it, his likability is really only increased bc they make him slightly less annoying/mischievous and more focused on the task at hand. So no, I NEVER wanted Aang 2.0, nor did I expect it, when I started watching Korra, it’s not even true to the storytelling style. Aang was very different from Kyoshi and Roku, they weren’t carbon copies of his personality.

Jonny Rey

Correction: you* wanted Aang (in the minority) and Korra was the opposite. Aka: speak for yourself. The only “people” I’ve ever talked to all thought Aang was an insufferable annoying little boy for 90% of the show while Korra was an actually likeable, relatable, strong-willed and quick-tempered young adult/teenager. Don’t know why you’d have a problem with that either, considering every word I just used to describe Korra could also be used to describe Zuko from ATLA, and you all loved him just fine.

Jonny Rey

Remember, Aang was called the LAST Airbender for a reason. Don’t forget ALL Air Nomads were born benders, so their entire nation was killed in the genocide, which means now, the only Airbenders in existence are Tenzin and his children, directly descended from Aang. That’s why Tenzin and his family are so important, and why you never see any Airbenders in pro bending.

Jonny Rey

Fair enough. With things like this there will always be a spectrum of opinions. =)

SuddenImpulse

I think Ty lee is insanely overrated, she only beats people by surprise, yes she is a powerful sidekick but she has never taken down any of the main character benders in a one on one. Its just my opinion for an Avatar that Korra is not up there, she loses to so many causal people, as oppsoed to the likes of Aang(12 years old), Roku, and Kyoshi that body armies and one Chi bloker would be like an insect to them. Anyways, anyone can have their own interpretations/opinions, still I think Korra is fun to watch sometimes and this season 1 is amazing, have a good one!

Eshwar Tangirala

With respect, she had never dealt with chi blockers before and clearly didn't know what one was at the time of that episode, and still resisted for a bit with an arm disabled etc. Aang is also a very good airbender and they excel in evasive and defensive fighting, which is ideal against chi blockers. Korra is not that and is also very aggressive and bullheaded in the way she fights which is the worst way to deal with chi blockers. Aang and Korra were both very strong avatars. I am going to take the word of the people that actually created the universe over fans of the shows. If you disagree, that is fine though. Personally I wish people could just enjoy both characters and not feel the need to try and take one down a peg over the other. I can already see this happening with the Earth Avatar in the upcoming show as well. They both accomplished major feats the other did not, they both failed and succeeded in ways the other did not. I won't go into that further as that is spoiler territory. I think to claim one is definitively better and/or stronger as an Avatar over the other requires cherrypicking examples, downplaying events, or otherwise not being consistent and objective in comparisons in some fashion. Especially given we only see either of them during a small window of their overall lifetimes, where their skills, knowledge, etc. can advance or stall throughout. Same can be said about the other avatars, many of which we know nothing or close to nothing about. It is very possible there were avatars that put both Korra and Aang to shame in their abilities either outright, or in specific areas. There was a massive room full of those statues. on multiple levels.

SuddenImpulse

Also Katara bodied her twice and Zuko beat her, not that that matters. Korra is fun to watch not not a strong Avatar by any means, if she was chi blockers wouldnt be able to beat her in a face to face fight.

Eshwar Tangirala

Its not mental gymanstics, its facts your trying to avoid. Dude you cant say stabbing someone in the back is the same as going up against someone straight up one on one, just stop lying to yourself, just admit there is no chance in hell a fully trained avatar should lose to a Chi blocker straight up, thats embarassing. Ty Lee did not beat Azula one on one in a fight, stabbing them in the back when there fighting someone else is not the same thing as one on one

Eshwar Tangirala

Yeah, if they surprise them, my point, Korra was squared up one on one with this Chi blocker and she lost, and shes an avatar, when she loses to the leader of Amons army im fine with that.

Eshwar Tangirala

Do whatever mental gymnastics you need to to, it doesn't change the fact that Ty Lee is one of two people in all of ATLA that was able to solo take down one of the greatest benders of all time, Azula. Aang, Toph and Sokka all went up against Azula with NO bending and STILL couldn't beat her. Zuko never could take her down, NOT once. Not even Toph the greatest earth bender in history. Yet little Ty Lee, a single chi blockers did it one move. Imagine fighting 30 Ty Lees at the same time. That's what Korra has been going up against. Also Korra bodied the chi blockers in th episode so what are you talking about?

Tiang Maphosa

Chi blockers can get the better of any bender if they can surprise them that is why they are so dangerous. Of course they aren't supposed to go toe-to-toe that is not their style or to their advantage. They are supposed to dip in and dip out.

SuddenImpulse

Yea they never fought at any point beause she would get whooped by any strong bender. She only knocks down people by surprise, she knocked down Azula by SURPRISE, Azula wasnt even looking and she was about to zap Mai. Ty Lee did not take down anyone on team avatar one on one straight up except Sokka. She only knocked Katare and Toph down by surprise, she would die in one move by them if it was straight up lmao. Saying Ty Lee "took down" Azula from stabbing her when she not looking is abysmal.

Eshwar Tangirala

Ty lee and Aang NEVER fought at any point. But Ty Lee was able to take down anyone she went up against the entire show. Aang and Zuko could never take down Azula, but Ty Lee did. Aang, Toph, Soka all went up again at the same time Azula with no fire bending and STILL couldn't take her down, BUT TY LEE DID all by herself. Chi blockers are insanely OP.

Tiang Maphosa

How is she a weapon if shes a full fledged avatar and chi blockers are sometimes getting the better of her, no hate, just curios, she is fun to watch sometimes, Ty Lee never had a remote chance of even touching 12 year old Aang

Eshwar Tangirala

I do also agree with the Korra hate, people wanted Aang and Korra was the complete opposite of that.

Tiang Maphosa

This is my FAVORITE episode of Korra season 1. Korra is a WEAPON

Tiang Maphosa

Mid season so you guys should do a love & hate list! Thx!

Daflo9

I'm not saying you have to love it or hate it. I have a middle take on it myself. I was just giving the most extreme scenarios for the point I was making but I didn't try to imply those are the only options.

KaijinGarou

YES Spartan the way you put it o think is so right. But when you separate them, they are both incredible shows. But both very different. Of course you’re only in the 6th episode, so JUST wait. A whole extra season too. Also, this episode always reminds me of the game of thrones scene in A Dance with Dragons. Where the Sons of the Harpy show up in the arena. Idk I just find Game of Thrones similarities in all my favorite shows.

Amber Mary

Tbf the very next sentences after that statement they themselves indicate that they are very early in so that may be a premature statement. "Either you love it or hate it after finishing it." Idk about that. I know many people that love it, dislike it, and people that have a more nuanced middle take. Same is applicable to most shows imho.

SuddenImpulse

spartan you're so right that ppl hate cuz they just want avatar in a different light where as korra is a genuine contuination of the world

Michael Doyle

Loved when Amon took those cheating fools bending away, losers, no sympathy for cheats!

Eshwar Tangirala

im glad you guys enjoy the show

ReDragon8700

You should wait to watch the whole show before saying people think ATLA is better just for nostalgia, guys. I too think the plot and pacing is pretty great up until this point but there's much more left to watch and this season is my favorite of LOK for a reason. Either you love it or hate it after finishing it, I think it's too soon for you to assume something like that about the fandom. Although I get you were excited after the episode and didn't mean it to sound like that.

KaijinGarou

"We're not even halfway through the season" there's 12 episodes and y'all are on episode 6. You're literally at the halfway point lmao

Jenny Tolls

Yes this is a good point. Korra absolutely wrecked that one city street in episode 1.

SuddenImpulse

Keep in mind that if you are earth bending police officers in a city of cement and steel, you probably don't want to be earthbending unless you have too. I think the metal cables probably serve as a "de-escalation" tool that is also versatile. It seems like a very logical progression in a industrial revolution era period piece combined with elemental manipulation. LOL

Nate Terry

Yeah, airbenders also just can’t fly either

Zeek

Yes you guys are definitely right, this show on its own is good but if I have to be honest, you need to completely finish Korra before you can understand why some still prefer Avatar over Korra lol but you could definitely end up liking Korra more than Avatar once you finish the series. It really depends on the person and how they view certain things in life. Regardless, you guys will enjoy this series just as much as Avatar. Another great reaction

Tonic

Yea Korra is great honestly I love this part but it’s not even close to the best of Korra. I love how u see how nostalgia for ATLA is part of y ppl hate on LOK. Great reaction just wait the season ramps up from here

Kamau Catching

I think tenzin was probably helping with evacuation, and for Lin (tophs daughter) she’s wearing all metal so those lighting weapons are really messing her up

Jahari Fields

Toph's last name is Beifong. That's how Korra knew Lin was her daughter in the first episode. Lin introduced herself as Cheif Beifong.
