Viserys’s actor does a few of the histories and lore (prob cause he’s got such a good voice and you can imagine him tellin Dany when they were young). - he does a lot of the stuff you skipped cause of HotD. Fun fact he’s also the great great great grandson of Charles Dickens! (And Talisa’s actress was descended from Charlie Chaplin! And of course there’s Alfie Allen as Theon and his famous relatives haha.)

I don’t think I ever watched the History and Lore for this season before. I don’t know how that happened. Whenever the Blu-ray DVD,’s came out for the previous season I always devoured everything on them. One thing I always enjoyed was the commentary for each episode. Those were a combination of the show runners, actors, directors and other associated creators. There were usually some fun details to learn from listening to those. I’m going to respond to a few of the questions you guys posed here, as well as a couple of things I think or interesting.
*Yes, Pudgey was right about the dragon bone. I thought it looked like the skull of a baby dragon. And at the time I thought they might be foreshadowing a baby from Jon and Daenerys, as they kept passing the baby dragon bone back-and-forth between them. You will find out whether I was correct about that detail or not in the near future.
*I really liked how they used the history of the Golden Company to introduce the Blackfyre line. This was the house that was established from one of those bastards that Aegon IV legitimized on his deathbed. I think this is some of the most interesting Targaryen history. I’m really hoping that HBO will take up covering this part of the Targaryen dynasty after they have finished with the Dance. There are so many fascinating characters from this period that already have quite developed stories. In the main book series the Blackfyres are mentioned a few times. And they are one of the primary reasons that Catelyn gives for worrying about the challenges that Jon Snow or his future descendants could cause for her children.
*When they covered the Citadel and Oldtown I wondered if you two made the connection between the Hightowers establishing the Citadel and that they are Alicent and Otto’s family. Fun fact, Jorah Mormont’s wife, who was the reason he turned to selling poachers into slavers in order to make money to support her, was a Hightower.
*You guys should get someone to show you an image of how George Martin actually pictures Casterly Rock. It is quite different from the way that the show decided to portray it. He based the idea of Casterly Rock on the Rock of Gibraltar. The image and description is very cool IMO!
*Yes, Stannis knew Sam’s father Randall Tarly. Stannis mentions him to Sam back in the episode when they met in the library at Castle Black. His biggest impression of Randall is that he was the only one to defeat Robert in battle. Mace Tyrell was technically the one leading the army. But Randall Tarly was the general who one the battle.
*Lastly, the actor who played Rhaeger is not the same actor as the one who played Viserys. The wig had a lot to do with the similar look. And you should have heard the complaints about that wig when the episode first aired! People made quite an issue about it.

Fascinating! On the surface, I really love this.
When I stop to think about it, it wouldn’t have stopped Cersai from trying to regain the lands Dany’s taken/taken back, which was the purpose of them wanting to call a temporary cease fire with Cersai—they weren’t originally trying to get her to fight with them, they were trying to just get her to pause the war moves.
I also wonder if the Golden Company would have taken the job of helping fight the walkers, since they only sign contracts for wars they believe are winnable. They’re literally safer staying put where they are, since the walkers can’t swim and you need a ship to get to Bravos.
But again, fascinating thought and I liked your comment! :) Very nice AU spin.

Right, like I said, there’s a lot of info. out there about what happened. Based on what is officially released AND a ton of highly credible fan theories that were very well-researched, *my personal* viewpoint is that this is like R+L=J in that, to a well-informed fan, there’s no surprise—just confirmation of what we already “knew.” For example, I know what “interesting detours” Ned took, and likely why he really took them.
And that bores me *in comparison to exploring fresh territory* that hasn’t been dissected so much for so many years.

For anyone struggling, the video is called "Robert's rebellion was built on a lie. Whose lie?" Turns out I had already watched it. I recommend all the content from that same creator In Deep Geek relating to Roberts rebellion, from start to finish. It's really really brilliant stuff and explains so much, even to a seasoned book reader like me.

Watch the videos of In Deep Geek regarding Robert's rebellion.
Until very recently (and I speak as someone who read the books like 15 years ago, so before the show, and has been familiar with much of the lore), I'd say that a Robert's Rebellion content that stays true to what probably actually happened might be worth it.
Most of us think we know what happened at the tourney of Harrenhall, the time between that and the start of rebellion proper, what Ned knew, what actually happened at the Tower of Joy (not just when Ned got there but before), what happened in the immediate aftermath (Ned did NOT head back North right away with baby Jon, instead he took some interesting detours), the roles Houses Reed and Dayne in all of this, why Benjen joined the Night Watch...
...And so much more like why long before any of this, Rickard Stark (Ned's dad) was fostering and bethrothing his children all over the South when House Stark had traditionally been aloof from Southern politics and therefore from the Game of Thrones.

I’m the oddball fan who watches all the backstories and feels fully satisfied. I DON’T want to watch Robert’s Rebellion or Aegon’s Conquest as show series because we already know soooooooooooooo maaaaaaany details about what happens, down to who wins each battle. I’d much rather the franchise focus on things we know much less about, or to charter new territory post-Thrones S8.

Now that you’ve watched the Rains of Castamere story Jaime narrates, does it help you better understand why Cersai is so stubborn and won’t admit she’s probably going to lose her war with Dany? She grew up idolizing Tywin, and was the only one of his children who listened to him tirelessly when he spoke. She wants to be as strong, ruthless, and cruel as he was with the Castameres, to be his most worthy child, and to ensure the Lannister name is never again mocked—only feared. She grew up with that ferocity in her, and it’s only hardened through all her losses as her mother, father, then three children died. After her humiliation being walked naked through the streets while the commoners flung crap on her, you can see the appeal of her fantasy to rise up now and defeat the dragon queen and create a dynasty for the child she’s carrying now. As the man from the Iron Bank said, “Your father’s daughter, indeed.”
And yes, she’s extremely cruel and heartless and does terrible things to her enemies—just like her father did with his! In her mind, that doesn’t make her dishonorable, that makes her worthy.

Spartan, to comment on what you said about listening to the GoT soundtrack, I 100000% recommend you do that! I've always been a huge fan of the GoT music, and the song albums for all 8 seasons are on Spotify. The album for House of the Dragon is on Spotify too and is also amazing. The Targaryen theme is by far my favorite, but the Stark theme is also amazing. Check it out on Spotify and let us know!

Jon Snow and Dany really should’ve brought that white that they captured to the golden company instead of to Kings Landing because they would of had a way better chance of gaining support from them then they would’ve had from Cersei even if they had to pay. And Tyrion should’ve also told them not trust her because he definitely knows her and what she’s like and they’ve all heard stories about her and that should of been enough to not put trust in her. Now, they sail back to Winterfell thinking they have cerseis support and I just hope it doesn’t stab them in the back.

The history and lore has always taken up an episode slot (due to length, it being purely GoT content, and the editing time due to the length) and been between seasons (with the one time exception) since the very beginning of them watching GoT. It is something there was high demand for within the community. The musical is considered "extras" and voted on by the demi-god tier, and does not count as an episode slot.
While we value your support, I suggest reading the benefits of each tier more carefully to avoid these confusions in the future. The last thing we want is for people to make an incorrect assumption of the tier benefits and then be displeased when they don't receive what they expected. =)

I love the story of Aegon I & the Conquest! The world building in GRRM's books, GOT, & HOTD is so thorough & well-constructed. It's amazing how engaging it all is considering we don't actually ever see any of these historic characters onscreen, we just get tidbits about them here & there. Every few years there's been discussion at HBO about making Aegon's Conquest into a series. I wish they would! Same with Robert's Rebellion, it would be amazing to watch that story unfold.
One reason book readers & diehard GOT fans were so excited to see Vhagar onscreen in HOTD is because she's the last living link to the Conquest, Aegon, Visenya, & Rhaenys...the original 3 heads of the dragon. I was super stoked to see her!
The actor who portrayed Rhaegar isn't the same one who played Viserys. They were made to look similar, obviously.. I wish they'd portrayed Rhaegar as he is described in the books - with long hair like Aemond's, a massive warrior of a size to match the young Robert Baratheon. Rhaegar should've looked more like Cavill's Witcher & less like his brother Viserys.

musicals and other demi-god content is alongside already im pretty sure. so we are still getting 2 episodes/week, but you are right in that histories and lore takes up 1 of those 2 slots.
but come on... we have been on this journey for 8 months now, having to wait a few more days to continue the show is nothing in the big picture :p and the histories and lore videos does add to the reactions. you have to remember this is their first time watching GOT, and they've never read the books, so a lot of the things that seem obvious to us in the histories & lore is completely new to them.
