Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.

Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.

Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.

Loving the reactions!!! I'm subscribed here but for some reason wait for YT to be posted to watch the full length on here timed with the YT uploads haha, but decided to skip ahead. Amazing episode, and I hope you guys end up liking the "Ember Island Players" episode (which is after this) a bit more. Was really creative recap episode that was especially useful and beneficial back when this aired on live TV to get viewers up to speed with the series before the huge finale.

Just AnotherArtist

This happened because of Hama using bloodbending to escape from her prison. Increasing the Fire Nation's paranoia toward waterbenders.

Apex Calibre

Nope. One is the edited one is the uncut.

Not a theory. It's pretty clear (unless you're a child) that Hakoda and Katara found her mother dead. I'm only saying it cause they made it in a way for kids to understand. It makes no sense that he would take her body and kill her on the boat (?) lmao. The reason why Katara said "she was gone" instead of "she was dead" is because the writers already used up all their priveleges of mentioning death by name in the show (jk, not actually real)

Hamide Demir

Well yes but I more mean before we heard his memory of the event. It was never a doubt that she was dead. If she was taken and killed on the boat then it would've been more open ended but the fact that it's 100% that she's dead makes sense that there was solid proof (like a body) in the tent

Orange Evie

Also it's been said multiple times in the show that the fire nation KILLED her mother. And the guy who killed her mother (Yon Rha) said, "I'm not taking prisoners today", implying that he's going to kill her.

Saibal Sarkar

They are! Mentioned it in the comments last week

Please tell my you plan on watching legend of korra after this

Katara hugging Zuko was a moment that was well worth the wait. So much emotion in this episode. We really get a look at the story of Katara/Soka's mom and why it really has been haunting Katara since it happened. Her letting the monster go unharmed is a huge character arc she needed. She also shows why she is one of the most powerful waterbenders in the world.

Eddie House

Such a great episode, one Katara needed to take. Looove the look on Zuko’s face when he first sees Katara bloodbend, so great, he’s like oh shit, I’m glad I’m on her side now!

Stephanie Hundley

I completely agree. I just think forgiveness is the wrong word that people use for these situations. A lot of people see forgiveness as completely erasing what the other person has done from your head. Took me awhile for fully understand what it means to forgive someone for your own sake.

Jenny Tolls

Well Katara had to end up with her mother's necklace somehow...

Munir

I've always thought ppl get forgiveness all wrong. Forgiveness isn't for the other person. It's for yourself. If you don't forgive the person that wronged you, then its you that has anger and bitterness, and resentment. By forgiving, you let yourself be "unburdened" with all that anger, which in turn improves your mental health(angry ppl become rotten). It's sorta what Aang was getting at with his advice, But ppl act like forgiveness is some kind of certificate you give the wrong doer to absolve them of their sin. it doesn't. Even the writers of this show seem treat forgiveness like that. Katara had to give Zuko the certificate so that HE could feel good. no, she should have done it for herself, that in turn would have improved her relationship with Zuko. also, I enjoyed this episode because the writers showed the backstory for Katara/Sokka's mother thru 3 perspectives. (1) thru Sokka, (2) Katara, (3) and then thru the fire commander. Also, Zuko's fighting improvement from Book1. remember his first dual with Commander Zhao, then with Azula?

Nate Terry

Yep, I definitely got the impression she was found dead. It's one of those "It's on NIckleodean so they can't show a corpse" type of things.

SuddenImpulse

The simple fact that the whole intro scene with Zuko vs Azula was a small part of this episode shows how good this episode is.

Eshwar Tangirala

There's a theory that says that Hakoda and Katara walked into the tent seeing Kya dead right there. It's why there doesn't seem to be a doubt of maybe she is alive. It's also why it seems Katara is having a lot bigger of feelings towards their mom than Sokka does. I'm not sure if this theory was ever confirmed or not but the dialogue after Katara saying the events "the man was gone *pause* and so was my mother" kinda feels like they knew right there

Orange Evie

Yes they did

KaijinGarou

Sokka: "What's on your mind?" Zuko: "Your sister". Sokka: "OK, dude I thought I had forgiven you but that's going too far. On guard!"

KaijinGarou

Small clarification: Katara doesn't blame Zuko for her mother's death. She's just saying in other words that it's impossible that she forgives him. As impossible as him bringing her mother back.

KaijinGarou

I believe they have already confirmed they will be replacing ATLA with Korra once they finish so you’re in luck

Christopher

HEAR ME OUT - You guys did HOTD then GOT, everyone loves watching you guys navigate different shows that live in the same universe. Soooo its only right that you guys continue the Avatar universe with "Legend of Korra". Pleaseeee lol

Adore this ep. I think it teaches a really important lesson about grief. You dont HAVE to ever forgive or forget the people who wronged you, or hurt you. But you also dont have to let the pain from your grief poison other aspects of your life and the relationships you want to have. It was really special to watch this episode, especially growing up

Cyan

Cool theory I've seen is that reason the Fire Nation wasn't taking any waterbender prisoners and killed Kaya outright is because of Hama, the bloodbender from the Puppetmaster. Basically after her escape the Fire Nation decided waterbenders were too dangerous to be kept alive. Sad sort of poetic justice in Katara being the reason Hama is finally stopped and sent back to a Fire Nation prison, given that her escape may have been what caused her mum's death. Can't really cheer for it because Hama was a victim of her circumstances. The cycle of violence is never ended by more violence.

Mzuka

The ship scene had a very interesting sequence of moments. Katara lands on the ship and you can see tears fill up her eyes as she uses her rage as power to push everyone off. Then she turns water into tentacles that extend from her arms, and finally she brings out the blood blending that Zuko was even surprised from. Very well done! That whole scene was my favorite moment in the episode.

Jenny Tolls

A great episode. And Zuko’s final question to Aang gets into some of the really core meaning of this entire series. You have an epic finale to look forward to!

Blackeyedlily

Such an emotional, layered episode.

SuddenImpulse

This episode always hits me right in the feels. I think some small part of Zuko wanted Katara to get revenge for her mother because he wouldn't be able to dish out the same, being as it's Aang's job to face his father. Which is what I think made him ask Aang what he'll do when he's finally face-to-face with Ozai. That's further cemented by the, true to the show-runners style, parallel with having Azula show up. It demonstrates Zuko's conflicted feelings about his family dying.
