Game of Thrones Histories & Lore Reaction | Season 6

The mystery knight AKA the knight of the laughing tree is Layna Stark. She defeated the 3 knights whom their squires have beaten Harold Reed (Meara’s father). She ordered the knights to punish the squires for their action. Thus Reed’s prayer was answered. The mystery knight disappeared because Layna and Prince Rhaegal runaway. Harold Reed stabbed Sir Arthur Dane in the back not Ned Stark. This is best reaction for history & lore little long but best.

Ice was Neds Sword until Tywin had it melted into 2. They became "Widow's Wail" (Joffrey's sweord) and "Oathkeeper" (Jamie's that was passed onto Brienne)

Show Euron Greyjoy and Book Euron Greyjoy are two entirely different characters. One detail that they didn’t really go into with Sam Tarly’s story is how his father could have let him become a Maester, as that was much more suited to his character. But Randall Tarly felt that such a position was beneath someone from House Tarly. I don’t know if Spartan or Pudgey made the connection between the section talking about the Citadel in Oldtown being founded by the Hightowers and that being the Hightower family of Otto and Alicent of House of the Dragon. And I don’t know if it would be considered a spoiler to tell them the primary theory behind the Knight of the Laughing Tree. So I won’t elaborate on that here. But as they seemed really interested, if it is thought to be appropriate, I think someone should share that with them.

Fun tidbit about House Dayne (aka the coolest house in Westeros) - we don’t know their House words. GRRM has said it’s too much of a spoiler to reveal. Also, Dany and Rhaegar (and Jon) are descendants of House Dayne through King Aerys’s great-grandmother. Their lore is tied to some of the biggest prophecies in the story. A house with a weapon called Dawn whose wielder is the title ‘Sword of the Morning’ seems significant for the Long Night, or War for the Dawn as it is sometimes called. GoT left a little Easter egg for this in the season finale of S6, in the scene where we see Jon’s birth. The prince who was promised/Azor Ahai is said to be “born beneath a bleeding star”, which most people assume is the comet in season 2. But in episode 10, as Ned joins Lyanna, he sets Dawn by the bed and it is still covered in Arthur’s blood. Dawn was forged from a fallen star, so what does that say about Jon…?

I interpret the Dothraki prophecy in the same way Spartan did; the Stallion Who Mounts the World that Dany birthed was not Rhaego, but her dragons. Especially Drogon, who is her mount. Drogon mounts the world, she rides Drogon - he's another kind of analogue for the Iron Throne/the dream of world conquest. GRRM loves to play with the language of his prophecy and leave room for different interpretations. He's more concerned with the choices people make because of their interpretations of prophecy (Melisandre, Stannis, Cersei, Aegon etc.). Rhaego didn't live to fulfil the prophecy, but his life is what awoke one of the dragon eggs, so she did birth the Stallion - she is the Mother of Dragons. If Mirri Maz Dur had not interpreted the prophecy as applying to Rhaego and taken action to prevent, Dany would never have birthed her dragons and the prophecy would not have been fulfilled. The same pattern is present with the other characters who act on prophecy and thus make it self-fulfilling (see Cersei and her dead kids). With this in mind, Aegon's dream becomes even more interesting. I wonder if the Long Night would ever be a threat if the Targaryens never came to Westeros?

I think he just meant alliance wise. As in they would be a bit more hesitant to be used as LF's tool against the Starks vs. say, the Lannisters or Ironborn. . Like the Tully's or the Reeds with the Starks. The clarification can't hurt though. =)

So most valyrian steel weapons pass down automatically to the oldest son in a family. No matter if they are deserving. Here are some examples: Heartsbane - House Tarly Lady Forlorn - House Corbray Longclaw - House Mormont. Currently in the possession of Jon Snow. Nightfall - House Harlaw Ice - House Stark, taken by Tywin Lannister and melted down into Oathkeeper, given to Brienne of Tarth, and Widow's Wail, last possessed by Tommen. Red Rain - House Drumm, but possibly the ancestral sword of House Reyne. Dawn isn’t passed down like these weapons. Dawn must be earned by a member of House Dayne who is deemed worthy to wield it and given the title of the Sword of the Morning.
