Great reaction!!!

I always liked Zuko and Mei. Even though we don't get a deep dive into her, In my opinion it's obvious she's got some deep routed troubles. she's played off as that "dark chick". It fit's pretty well with Zuko's personality. Scared, confused, hiding pain/thoughts and Zuko was dark earlier in the show too. As long as Mei has a moment of realization (this episode) then I think they work perfectly for eachother. Both have come to see the light, after being in shadow for so long. (Zuko under his father and destiny) (Mei under Azula by way of fear).

I’m fine with it, Katara was very naive to the world, and had a lot of growing up to do. Aang however was very well trained, traveled the world, and although he has a lot to learn, I believe he can save the world, and that he’s worthy of Katara.

Stephanie Hundley

yea, especially because girls tend to mature and begin their adolescent changes at a younger age... Which makes it even more of a stretch.

Ietseatapples

Man the wait for these last 6 is going to be unbearable 😭 so excited

Cyan

ahh right, yeah that's a pretty funny reply 🤣

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Romance is the weak point of these writers, Sokka/Suki is the only couple that I don't see criticized. Where I grew up, 12 and 14 year-olds don't even go to the same school, but obviously the Gaang didn't grow up anything like us. Zuko and Katara have the same age gap, so I don't really get that angle. Also the show takes place over almost a year but they never mention their birthdays so their exact ages are hard to pin down.

Munir

Yeah, I was never on the Aang/Katara train. he is 12 and katara is 14. only 2 years, but pivotal 2 years in teenage developement. Think back to your school days....when did you EVER see a 14 year old girl date a 12 year boy? in a world with fantastical spirit creatures, and elemental powers, this is the only thing that seems "unrealistic." they are almost too young for a romance story...Maybe it would be more plausible/appropriate, if they told this story where Aang was 15 or 16...

Nate Terry

Yeah i've always see her as too aware of the meaninglessness of her noble life but also not aware enough to create meaning because...well she's a moody teenage girl. Zuko can be JUST as lame and self-pitying. They're a great couple and compliment each other well.

Darth Sckolar

After Sokka says, My first girlfriend turned into the moon, Zuko responds, That’s rough buddy. It’s an epic line for the fandom, but so is Sokkas part, so if you instantly laugh at his line, it’s very easy to miss Zukos.

Stephanie Hundley

what did we miss?

I LOVE YOU GUYS FOR THE TWO PARTERS

Also true

KaijinGarou

Yep, and his "new skills" don't make Azula any less of a firebending prodigy. That term doesn't get thrown around lightly, especially with how many benders there are.

SuddenImpulse

also, when it comes to Mai, the thing that surprises me the most is how ppl have strong opinions of like or dislike... I just saw her as Zukos gloomy gf and never really thought much beyond that. Shes cool i guess.

Ietseatapples

this is for sure one of my favorite avatar episodes, but it definitely does stretch plausibility and believability lol. oh well. idc that much (being a cartoon, it gets some passes lolol)

Ietseatapples

You did see Zuko's "new skills", kind of. It's not like he learnt to throw meteorites or anything. The currently common firebending style relies on anger as fuel and the original style, the dragon dancing style or whatever, relies on purpose and self-confidence, so it's kinda the same destination by taking a different route. It just uses positive reinforcements as fuel, that's why now Zuko is able to firebend perfectly calm. Anger never really was the way to go for him, so this method is still a level up for him and still makes him a more precise and powerful bender. You saw in this episode, even if none of them were going all out, how Zuko seemed to be a far better match for Azula now, but the mastery is in the details, it's not like you are going to watch a sky-crapper-size fire dragon flying towards the camera or anything. We'll see how their future encounters turn out.

KaijinGarou

You have a point about Mai before all of this but the thing is she didn't really know what was going on in Zuko's head and he wasn't willing to share either, so she just kinda joked about it. I think that "I didn't ask for your whole life story" answer was cute and funny, and wasn't necessarily a mean thing to say. Just a funny joke to make in a relationship that matches her personality very well. The only problem is Zuko actually had a lot going on in his head by that time but I think you misjudged her. Understandably so though.

KaijinGarou

It's great too that after their discussion and Zuko locking her up in that cell, the only reassurance Mai needed was looking into his eyes and realizing that he still had feelings for her and was truly sorry about them. Show, don't tell. Mai got the answer she was looking for that Zuko had been kinda brushing aside in their previous conversations in that moment.

KaijinGarou

You missed the best answer in ATLA history. This is rough, buddy.

KaijinGarou

One of my Favorite moments of the show

Philipp Lembens

Like others, I have been waiting for you guys to see this Mai moment. I certainly understand why you had the opinion of her that you originally had. But this was always such a huge moment. Even though she felt personally betrayed by Zuko, she was still going to stand up for him over Azula, when push came to shove. It always has me reflect back to that earlier memory of Zuko’s, when we saw that Mai had had a crush on him her entire life. And believe me, the Avatar community was seriously divided on shipping relationships when the series originally aired.

Blackeyedlily

So great to see you turn around on Mai, been waiting for it! I think those of us who’ve watched this so many times forget how felt about her and other characters when we first saw it. I think it’s a similar thing with how some people say you guys don’t like Azula enough - first time round I’m pretty sure I didn’t “like” Azula, cause she was the biggest threat to the people I was rooting for (Gaang/Zuko). Now every time I hear that Azula theme I get excited.

Mzuka

YESSSSS this is one of my favourites. I loveddd watching ur reactions to 'the betrayal' and Mai's epic line - "I love Zuko more than I fear you." EPICCCCC so worth the wait dude

Ezgi Cinar

I think most people were thinking of this Mai moment when they were defending her before. "You miscalculated. I love Zuko more than I fear you." 🔥🔥

Munir

To be fair, if Zuko was going to betray them, he probably would have done it on the "field trip" with Aang.

Munir

Thanks sparty. Had me worried for a second

Augustine Lee

The video is in HD. If it wasn't earlier, that would just be a delayed upload issue :)

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Yeah now that I think about it, it makes no sense that Sokka and Zuko went to the prison without telling anyone at all lol and it also makes no sense that Sokka would trust Zuko enough to go to a fire nation prison on a remote island. But hey still a great episode!

Jenny Tolls

hey fellow members this video is a great reason to sign up for demi god tier membership. Now pudgey and spartan cannot even afford video quality above 360p. sign up today and hopefully we get queen pudgey back in HD! :D
