This episode solidified my opinion that of our main crew, I would be the most afraid of Katara. Toph, Aang, Sokka, all are very skilled. But they are, especially Aang, very pure hearted and forgiving. Katara is different. Maybe hidden deep down, but still existing, is a seed of hatred in Katara that has been slumbering within her since her mother's death. Katara is strong enough not to let it take over, but when she senses a thread for the people she loves, its like she turns into a totally different person. She is TERRIFYING and I believe every word she says.

I know ;)... I was trying to be funny. Having a future episode in mind.

Philipp Lembens

@philipp it was confirmed by the creators he died, they just weren't able to show that at the time with this show on Nickelodean and with a young target demographic.

SuddenImpulse

Tho it is still really unclear what happened to Jet. But i do appreciate the leniency.

Philipp Lembens

As always with Avatar, I promise y’all will not be disappointed with what’s to come including the finale. You guys are witnessing greatness ✊🏽

JT_45

Definitely intentional, the show does this a lot. In Zuko Alone when he is confronting the guards and calling them out, the "camera" slowly pans them to his right side. In Lake Laogai when Iroh is lecturing Zuko, it pans to show Iroh behind him on his unscarred side until his scarred eye is mostly out of frame.

Munir

lmao

SuddenImpulse

Phillip tread lightly..or you may suffer Jets fate. I will assume you are referring to Spartan being mostly right..and will spare you this once.

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Comon guys… lets be totally honest now. If there was the idea for a correct theory… we all know who probably had it. There is really no need to argue about it.

Philipp Lembens

Lol, I didn't even know I posted this comment 😆 I started typing and changed my mind. So thank you for engaging with my partial, unintentional thought!

Heather

Yeah I definitely think its intentional. The best animation usually tries to do a lot of symbolism and meaning through imagery and the way things are presented and this definitely wouldn't be the first instance of that with ATLA. When they have to storyboard each scene before its fully illustrated and animated they have to decide what angle each character is shown at, and also mark how they will move about through scenes, so its definitely something they would likely be purposefully doing, especially with something so consistent. Same deal with the Iron/Zuko prison bar stuff.

SuddenImpulse

I don't know if this is intentional, and maybe I'm more aware of this because of the conversation around how Shereen's scars were filmed in GoT, but when Zuko is talking to the Gaang, you don't see his scars. As if the scar represented his pain and dishonor.

Heather

😭😭Zuko having that photo of Iroh on him always hits me for some reason

Unique

I am not a mother but thanks for thinking of me either way haha!

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Same, not sure they’re of they’re age. An they’ve never mentioned kids but I wanted to say it to Pudgey just in case

Chaz D

How old are they? Look like mid 20s but never heard them say it

I love Katara being a full lioness protecting her man🔥 Its so realistic the fact she cant accept Zuko easy, to be fair she was the first one in trust him back in Ba Sing Se, she showed kindess to him to release him from his scar and past and Zuko didnt care about that and betrayed her trust and cus of that endedup killing Aang. But u know it will take more time to her

Emi Benitez

I love how at one point this episode, the Gaang are the ones trying to capture Zuko. I kinda wish they had gone through with it, it might've been pretty cathartic for them.

Munir

You guys touched on a really good point with Zuko. He was sort of robbed of his true identity and it was replaced by this person he only wanted to be for the sake of his father. In this episode we see him really start to rediscover who he is as a person because he, for years has moulded his identity around capturing the avatar and being the ruthless man his father wanted him to be. I love how awkward they showed him being this episode because he's just trying to be his true self for the first time in many years.

Cyan

Spartan, I don't know how you're confused by the air temple being upside down. You're from Australia! Isn't that normal for you guys?? 😜

iOmegaTron

As someone with the fear of heights, the air temples are terrifying, but beautiful. Looking back at the Iroh flashbacks, he never accepted Zuko's destiny to capture the Avatar. We also see him trying to direct Zuko to the righteous path right from the start. That sigh was symbolic of just how much work that would take. Katara's demeanor at the end is so far removed from her innocent self in the beginning. From an outsider's point of view, her threats are pretty dire considering she has the ability to carry through. Remember how she used to be so trusting of everyone, always giving them the benefit of the doubt, even over Sokka's objections. The war and our travels have changed her a lot and alot of the gang.

YounesCuppino

A subtle detail for me that I love now is after Zuko chooses his destiny and defies his father, has Irohs theme…I think it shows he’s changed. Also, a lot of the scenes with him show him from he scarless side and his clean face and how he’s separated himself from being defined by his scar

Steven

Another favorite episode!♥️🔥

Blackeyedlily

I’m not sure if you’re a mother or not but if you are happy Mothers Day Pudgey!
