Game of Thrones Uncut Reaction S6 E4 'Book of the Stranger'

Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.

Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.

Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.

These reactions DO NOT include our intros and discussions. You will have to refer to the original edited version of the video.

Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

yeah ghost sorry new here lol

BabaYega

Abigail we can assure you nothing has changed in your tier. all we did was release the uncuts earlier than the edited in Demi God. you still receive 3+ weeks early access in super soldier as per normal. so please dont stress.

CpaSpartan Pudgey

no fabian, they're locked temporarily until the times they normally come out for your tier. they're unlocked early for the higher tier

Something Did Change, Cuz Now I Can't Watch The Full Uncut Versions, They're Locked For Me

Fabian

I don't think the mods can delete it but I think we can mostly all agree that this kind of comment should be deleted. This is their first time watching GoT and honestly, it's the best show ever from beginning to end. So let them experience it without commenting stuff like this.

Natasha Medina

Did Anyone Recognize Ghost From AntMan And The Wasp? She Was The Girl Who Got Held At KnifePoint By Daario

Fabian

Pretty sure this isn't at all how it works. Nothing has changed about your tier.

Julien

I paid the 8 $ fee for 1 month to watch your game of thrones. I can only afford 1 month because im.on disability. Now in the middle of that month, I now have to pay 4 more dollars to continue watching season 6. This isn't fair

Abigail Buck

when they say that no one pays attention to the music on a tv show, they haven't watched Game of Thrones. I'm not talking about the intro. rhamid jawadi hit his apex with all the music he has produced for GOT. Much of it is iconic!

Stannis loves grammar.

The reason you can’t compare the Civil War to this is because the Union was actually able to defeat the Confederacy thus leading to the end of slavery. Even then, slavery didn’t end overnight. It took years for the entire country to free all slaves. Dany at this point can’t win, and Tyrion knows this. If the Unsullied and Second Sons go to fight the Masters elsewhere, they’ll most likely take control of that city, but they lose Meereen and slavery will restart just like it did earlier with Yunkai and Astapor. Tyrion is the only one who is logically trying to solve this issue. You can’t stop a wildfire all at once. You have to fight it where you can and when you can.

Jacob Cantu

Did you read that Chris?

Jenny Tolls

100% AGREED

Ailene Evangelista

I mean you're talking 7 years vs hundreds. It's a huge transition for everyone and while it may be easy for the young the older slaves who know nothing other than that life will struggle. And the economy will take a huge hit as well. Tyrion is trying to be a mediator not a ruler.

Vash32

The first 10 minutes of this episode are the moments I’ve been waiting for since you first watch episode 1. I cry every time, I love this reunion so so much. PUDGEYS REACTION!!!! The best thing I’ve ever seen! Pudgey, speaking of the soundtrack, there is one song coming up (I’ll tell ya when it’s showed, thoughts I have a feeling you’ll know it when you hear it) that I listen to everyday. It’s SO GOOD. Like how could a track sound so amazing.

Amber Mary

yes but that shows that you cant change something fundamentally like that in a single day. it needs time

Adrian

At the end of the day we ask people to respect the rules we have and moderator requests. Beyond that it just depends on the details. If we see something we feel needs to be deleted, we will usually try to ask first, but when rubber meets road, if we think it needs to be deleted, it's getting deleted one way or another, whether the person agrees or not. This is S&P's platform, S&P's rules, and S&P's discretion.

SuddenImpulse

Not all Dany fans behave the same, just as not all Jon/Cersei/whatever else stans. Lets try not to generalize large swathes of people so negatively, plus it had nothing to do with that lol.

SuddenImpulse

@Adrian Yes, but not because they necessarily want to be slaves, we haven't really seen any that actually wanted to continue being one with respect to everything that entails. It was primarily because he was extremely old and unable to have economic security at his age without extensive support or going back to that prior "work relationship". It also seemed to be implied he worked for a wealthy family that may have treated their slaves a bit better than what was the norm. As we noticed with Hizdar's proclamations, there was some variation and nuance in the beliefs, opnions and treatment by the slaveowning class, albeit they were still slaveholders.

SuddenImpulse

@Jik It really is a time and place issue, not a content issue, as you said. We have a place specifically for people that want to discuss the episodes, books, future content, all with spoilers allowed in our official GoT discord channel and we advertise that heavily. That is the place for those discussions and debates, not here or youtube where they read all the comments.

SuddenImpulse

in the series some of them (the old teacher) ask for being sold back into slavery...

Adrian

And Tyrion is a full grown adult. Daenerys is like a mid-teen in the SM not even a full adult.

SuddenImpulse

This comment literally wasn’t meant for them it was meant for the chain above so you coming for dany fans is misguided lol

Gummybear

Chris you are just the worst lmao so self conceited. “Im not deleting anything” lmao let’s see how far that gets ya

Jenny Tolls

I can understand wanting to implement some sort of transition period... but 7 years? Seems extremely long and quite an arbitrary number.

J_Fley .

I do think the vast majority of the criticisms are fairly valid and many good conversations can be had, BUT the comment section of people watching the series for the first time is NOT the place to discuss that stuff. That kind of conversation should be saved for after the show is finished and they have had time to form their own opinions. As a book reader, comparisons mattered a lot to me while I was watching the show because that was what I cared about. But for folks who only watch the show and are not completely saturating their life with GoT/ASOIAF content, the endless debates and arguments accomplish nothing positive. It basically feels like patrons are just trying to push them to one side or the other so they can get the reaction they want, rather than getting the genuine thing.

Jik

I'm not deleting anything. They already know people's general feelings toward the later seasons.

Roy Koopa

They're not going to stop reacting. No one said the comment section was about pretending everything is perfect.

Roy Koopa

No, not above all. They despise sorcery above all. I can promise you that scene will not happen in the books, and not least because Dany isn't immune to fire in the real story. Because it's nonsense.

Roy Koopa

I also think dany’s political strategies have been terrible , But she got the slave thing right . Tyrion allowing slavery for 7 more years , in front of 2 former slaves is crazy .

Zeek

Spartan and Pudgey , please don’t let dany Stans get to you , I’ve seen it happen to other reactors where they fake liking her to appease her minority of loud opinions and I love y’all for being honest, just don’t change ❤️

TheRoguePrince19

They loved season 5, so there is hope :D

DrückebergerTV

I think they are responding to "Mango Maniac" in the comments above - not to you.

jmus

if that's what you see then we suggest being more open minded and actually considering the points being made. the rationale is there, clear as daylight. if you want to believe it to be something else, then that's up to you. We will continue to always share our raw and honest opinions fresh off the show, because we invite open discussion and exploration of ideas in this community.

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Ever since I joined your Patreon (during S3) I dreaded the later seasons bc I know what people become like. Lately its the worst its ever been. The constant comparison to early seasons, saying how it compares to the books, setting expectations/leaving open theories/the complaints alone... its so much going on in the comments for a first time viewer. I'm glad I binged GOT in a bubble where I had no secondary opinions/pressure from outside. I really do hope you guys enjoy what remains of this show and that everything that youve known to love for almost a year of watching this show is not ruined by others.

Julie

These comments are so unproductive. Do you want S&P to stop reacting? just make your comments on a discussion where people who have seen everything. You want them to make the same comments as you or see the show as a downfall while theyre still in the midst of enjoying it.

Julie

100

Supernei

Im not reading all that either but you've made similar comments on other videos, you're looking way too into it from your very very own POV.

Supernei

Its generally considered poor taste to wildly misrepresent someones position and craft a strawman to deconstruct when you want to have an actual debate on a subject. It also makes it far less likely that they or others will be willing to engage in one at the time or in the future.

SuddenImpulse

I’m sorry - did you say something in that wall of text? All I see is “misogyny misogyny hypocrisy misogyny” throughly mansplained. 🙄

Izattyi

And Seems all you care about is bashing her. The regression of the nations dany freed is not a reflection of her not caring, it’s a reflection of naivety and inexperience which every character has exhibited on their journeys throughout the show as they make mistakes and learn to become leaders. That is literally her whole arc.. she is learning the hard lessons about what it actually means to be a breaker of chains and rule successfully in a foreign land, understanding the intricacies of culture and tradition, balancing different political agendas, knowing when to trust her instincts and what council to heed. it’s completely unreasonable to expect a young girl with zero experience to have done everything right straight out the gate lol. She has faced some of the most difficult and complex challenges in the show and everyone is so overly critical of her decisions. She is doing her best and learning and fucking up like literally every other character in the show. And literally no one said Tyrion is pro-slavery. They were offering valid criticisms.

Gummybear

How was it cringe or unlikely to work? She was bound to the temple so that limited her options. She used her strengths as a leader to command the trust and help of the widows and lured the kahls into her territory where they felt safe because no weapons were permitted there but they didn’t account for her ultimate weapon-fire. Pretty genius plan in my opinion.

Gummybear

I agree and that’s why it’s so frustrating when people find dany’s storyline boring or don’t respect her journey/growth because the situations she’s faced have been some of the most politically/morally complex and nuanced in the show.

Gummybear

I'm not reading all that because youre already being hyperbolic and placing words into my mouth that I didnt say. Also spinning facts right out the gate with the, "she was okay with drogos slavery" - she wasnt. I stopped reading there. But okay! I'm glad you think that way! :) or sorry that you feel that way :( or whatever response will make you happy enough to leave me alone lol

Nana-Afia

All you care about is making excuses for Dany and using her half-assed abolitionism as a get-out-of-jail-free card to deflect any criticism of her. “Dany freed slaves and is therefore 100% above reproach and if you disagree with that then you support slavery.” Yeah, to hell with that. Someone who was actually concerned with Dany’s relationship to slavery in the story would be much, much harder on Dany for being OK with it when Drogo was rounding up slaves to pay for her army to invade Westeros. She had a choice: an army, or no slavery. She chose her army. Even the women she “saved” from the Dothraki were still enslaved. Someone who was actually concerned with Dany’s relationship to slavery in the story would be conscious of the curious correlation between Dany’s support or opposition to slavery and what benefits her at any given time. Someone who had a care for the welfare of freed slaves would expect more responsible leadership after their abolition, as opposed to Dany’s pretty appalling negligence that resulted in the obliteration of Astapor, including the death and suffering of lot of freed slaves. Where’s the concern for these people when they’re starving, re-enslaved, dying of disease and fighting over raw puppy meat? It’s like once Dany’s gone, who gives a shit, right? If the welfare of these people were the primary concern, why is there no criticism of or accountability for Dany from her base for what she allowed to happen to them? Why does it fall to the “slavery apologist” Dany “critics” to say, “Hey, Dany screwed up in Astapor and a lot of freed slaves are dead because of it”? Someone who was actually concerned with Dany’s relationship to slavery in the story would be critical of Dany 1. reallowing slavery, even voluntary enslavement, in Meereen and then 2. profiting off of it. If slavery is so abhorrent — and yes, it absolutely is — why allow any of it? Why make money on it? Why agree to let Yunkai start it up again? Because when push comes to shove — when there’s a cost — Dany folds. Someone who was actually concerned with Dany’s relationship to slavery in the story would accept that making some effort to understand Slaver’s Bay’s culture and political landscape could help the abolitionist movement, instead of equating “understand the culture and political climate” with “allow slavery and be nice to the poor slavers.” Ignorance of Slaver’s Bay is part of why Dany mucked it up so much (appointing a priest to help lead Astapor?!), and the freed slaves would have been better served if she made more of an effort to understand what it was she’d gotten into. But any suggestion of, ya know, common-sense pragmatism gets written off as sympathy for slavers or whatnot, even when said pragmatism would be better for everyone in the long run. How many people have died needlessly because Dany has no idea what the hell’s going on around her? Someone who was actually concerned with Dany’s relationship to slavery in the story would know that abolition is a means to an end and not an end unto itself. There’s more to abolitionism than waving your hand and saying, “You’re free, my job is done.” Abolitionism on its own doesn’t guarantee security, economic opportunity or employment. That takes actual effort. Basic abolition is the easy part, and pointing out the effort required to make abolition work does not make someone pro-slavery — it makes them a goddamn grown-up.

Mango Maniac

Please review the posting rules we post on each video. Thank you.

Re the tyrion, missandei, and greyworm discourse. I'm intrigued that y'all are praising tyrion so much. If we look at it from the perspective of what's good for the people, its not what tyrion suggested. The slaves out number the masters something like 5:1, so hes essentially doing what's worst for majority of the people. Not smart. Or morally ethical. If you have the ability to end a moralistic failure such as slavery, you do it immediately, thats not something you wait on. In other political qualms, sure, you can negotiate with time. Owning humans as property is not something that falls into that category. Which is why we see dany offer them their lives if they abolish it (tried to make peace like missandei said). Tyrion is definitely overstepping his bounds and dany WOULD NOT appreciate or agree with it lol. Hes in the wrong on many fronts. Interesting perspective tho..

Nana-Afia

@Scuba Steve At this point, it would be a plot twist if they DID come out

Munir

Not gonna lie I love season 6 but the Dany scene in this ep was cringe and made no sense like the chances of that plan working was so low and it did , I honestly find dany cringe 80 percent of the time.

TheRoguePrince19

Facts lmao when Dany survives the fire again it’s just for pure shock value

Stannis the Mannis

I’ve always felt that while some of it is privilege and niavity on tyrions end I also feel that it was the decision made to protect the most people, or what they believe would protect the most people. Which is crazy to even consider. I think they sort of hint at this earlier when the slave asked Dany to allow him to return to his master. And she says if he signs a contract and gets a wage, but at that point it was pointed out that he would be a slave in all but name. If the wages being paid were immediately then going back to the master for food and board. I don’t think tyrions proposal was necessarily a serious one with intent to follow out to the end. More so just to buy time until they can figure out what to do with Dany and Drogon gone, and really not having the means to enforce all non slave policies in all places at all times. It’s great to say slavery is illegal and wrong but if you have no means of enforcing the policy then it’s just lip service and ultimately can be equally as dangerous for those being oppressed. It’s a complex problem. Breaking the wheel is great, but it also provides the opportunity for chaos and as Littlefinger says Choas is a ladder. And if you don’t have the structure in place Chaos can churn out even more brutality. It’s a super complex real world relatable dilemma that most shows steer away from those types of issues.

Scuba Steve

I’m absolutely convinced George’s last plot twist for us fans will be never finishing the books. I’ve just accepted that and am thankful for what we got

Scuba Steve

Nene, always out here with straight facts! tyrions is wayyyt in over his head. Hes actively making deals that contradict danys life work. Missandei and Greyworm are there telling him and he dismisses him. His class privilege is really showing and it put a really sour taste in my mouth. Missandei is right. You must speak to your oppressor in the language they understand. Slavery didn't end by asking nicely, they had to kill their masters tf?!!

Nana-Afia

I think this comment is spoilery but Hollywoodized is a perfect way to describe it

Gummybear

I don’t find it lazy considering it’s been established lore and recurring element of the show and that is what we are reacting to.

Gummybear

I agree with your premise but not the conclusion. Dany gaining control of the Dothraki makes perfect sense considering their laws and culture. They respect strength above all else and to become kahl you must kill a kahl. Dany made a showing of ultimate strength in killing ALL the kahls of each kahlassar effectively uniting them all under one leader by their own law. Not to mention she did it without any weapon and walked out of a fire unscathed. It makes perfect sense they would kneel to her. Osha’s death was admittedly a bit rushed but still made sense.

Gummybear

Clearly you all are the ones that need to chill. If they want to delete my comment, they will. Have a nice day! 👍

Gypsysoul.adventureawaits

Such a dumbass statement. Some of yall need to keep yall mouths shut, is it that hard?! geez.

MeanAngel

Exactly! And that’s why the conversation between him and misandei is so important when he states he understands what it means to be a slave and she asks him how long he has been one. His proposal confirmed exactly what she said which was that he knew but didn’t understand because anyone who had been a slave their whole life would understand what 7 more years of it would mean.

Gummybear

Exactly, thank you, I couldn't have said it better myself. One day of slavery is a day too long, and he's offering 7 years to ease the transition for the masters, not understanding what that means for the actual slaves that have to suffer for all those years, it's ridiculous.

Sophia

Agreed. People like this are just sad

Tam

🍿👀 sure

Moderator Update: The spoilers and hints being given repeatedly in these comments, with refusal to acknowledge moderator requests, and violating posting rules, needs to stop. We have had some pretty serious spoiler comments on both youtube and patreon in the last few days. If a specific individual is doing this repeatedly even after our requests we DO note their account and we keep track incase an escalation is necessary to resolve the issue with more permanence. We are really going to buckle down on this for the final stretch of the show. If we cannot make this current commenting-reading system work, we WILL be forced to consider other alternatives. Please don't mess this up for the majority. If you have questions, concerns, or aren't sure if something is okay to post feel free to DM one of us mods on Discord at any time. Thank you.

SuddenImpulse

Davos deduced what happened to Stannis before this episode. They just never explicitly spoke about it. Given that Jon was killed shortly after Melisandre arrived back at Castle Black, Davos had some bigger issues at the time.

TallTyrionLannister

I think the mods should begin axing this type of comments too

Julien

I liked your comment, Druckeberger. We’re never going to get the rest of the books during GRRM’s lifetime. If we do, I’ll gladly eat my words, but until then, the show is our only canon. Period.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Tbf they should have their own opinion regardless what other people say

Rey Jr

Pudgey cried at the beggining for Joy and celebrated the ending. They didnt had issues in the middle either, except like osha, wich is a result from viewer pressure.

DrückebergerTV

George also said Winds would be out by the end of 2015 and here we are. He said he wont write any more episodes until winds is out. Well, hes writer for dunk and egg show. Point being he can still figure out she will kill them in a very similar way to the show, no matter what he once said. Espacially if it is coming from a 24 year old Interview.

DrückebergerTV

Wrong

Jenny Tolls

With respect George himself stated that the Fire that birthed the dragons was a 1 time event? “Martin does allude to Dany having an affinity for heat and fire…but she is definitely not immune to it the way she is in the show. In fact, Martin outright said as much during a Q&A back in 1999, calling the idea that Targaryens were magically immune to fire a “common misconception.””

Scuba Steve

George has explicitly clarified that Dany isn't fireproof, in multiple interviews.

Hi There

They loved this episode. Have you even seen the reaction?

DrückebergerTV

If Winds is ever to be released and it turns out, this is how she makes them join her as well, i bet you will sing a different Song.

DrückebergerTV

They loved this episode. They loved season 5 as well, just saying. And there are not wrong to Do it.

DrückebergerTV

Instead of making this useless ass comment, how about you just, wait for it, let THEM watch the show and come to their own conclusions. I know, it's a strange concept. But if you take a minute and think about it, you may just be able to understand it.

William

Yup. We have similar backgrounds. I am absolutely astonished that anyone could think Tyrion made a good, humane deal. Then again, I'm not. And note how they never talk of compensating the slaves. Only the masters, for losing their property - which is exactly what happened in part of the world in real life. It is never wrong to kill a slave master. Dany should have executed every single one of them, not just the 162 or whatever.

Julien

I think from this point on, just sit back and enjoy the hollywoodized show it will be from here on out. You had to think before, now just turn off your brain and watch like any other show. Sigh. 😓 still... epic.. tho 🤷‍♀️ so yeah .. keep up the wonderful work 🤩🤩

Gypsysoul.adventureawaits

Delete this, you’re setting up further expectations. Just because you don’t like this season doesn’t mean you get to ruin it for others.

Jenny Tolls

Dany being immune to fire is an invention of the show. While it does add dramatic effect, its a very convenient and lazy way for her to get control of the Dothraki.

Farbod

This episode is the one that always reminds me of the drawing of a horse getting progressively worse as it goes from hind to head. With no book giving an outline, and with their decision to cut so much of the books' storylines, they're just flinging in big moments and hoping people will connect the dots in their own minds, rather than going through the trouble of detailing how you get from A to B to C. So Spartan is absolutely right to say it's just nonsense how Dany gets control of the dothraki in that way. It's the same with Osha's death. Her story is just swiftly wrapped up because they need it to be wrapped up. I never noticed how heavily prengnant Osha's actress was the first time I watched it.

Roy Koopa

I don’t know much about the history of slavery in Australia but knowing the history of my country and the country I grew up in (Rwanda and USA) I would react the same as Missandei. This is a woman who actually had to be a slave her entire life until Dany broke her shackles. I doubt any enslaved person would agree to 7 more years of torture. The “agreement” Tyrion made is only beneficial to the masters. 7 years is a long ass time. For slavery to be abolished they don’t need to wait. Look at the US and the civil war. Tyrion should’ve told them to pay their servants wages if they wanted to keep them or else. Like grey worm and Missandei were saying, Tyrion doesn’t understand the salvers or masters in essos. The Essosi are a different breed but he acts as if he knows the ins and outs of it. Maybe instead of making dick jokes, he should’ve been reading up on the history or talking to people.
