Game of Thrones 5x7 Reaction & Review

Comments

i enjoy season 5 a lot more this time around, yall are right

MattyK

Spartan’s a confirmed fabled Dragon Dreamer

Manny

How do you miss that, the second time, let alone the nineteenth?

Hi There

What are you talking about? It's the worst episode ever! It ruined everything about King's Landing.

Junriel Roa

Oh wow. I never thought of the gift being Lancel. Sometimes y’all surprise me and make me think. I’ve watched the entire series maybe 20 times and you guys caught things I didn’t lol

Betty Alice

I always watch their intro here, then watch the uncut version, and then come back to see their discussion at the end

Jenny Tolls

There's still a lot of stuff in season 5 that's pulled directly from the books - including the entire High Sparrow storyline (which is quite pared down). The final episode of season 5 catches us up to the latest book in the series. With one exception (can't say for spoiler reasons), I'd argue that the strongest parts of season 5 are pulled from the source material, while the weakest narratives are the deviations. I do think season 5 gets a lot of unfair flak, I still really enjoy it and it has some of my favourite moments in the whole show. But we have to give credit to GRRM where it's due, its his work that made this so special to begin with. It's definitely not true to say that D and D completely took over from the beginning - not only does the show stay close to the books at the start, GRRM was a close advisor AND wrote an episode for each season for seasons 1-4. D and D would consult him on scripts and characters all through the first four seasons, but this stopped from season 5.

Mzuka

Delete, no expectations setting.

DrückebergerTV

Next episode will be your favorite so far, I can’t wait!

Mitch Krueger

Spartan was right. This isnt a spoiler more of a clarification. Little finger gave the sparrow Loras’ lover as “a gift” and he then gave Lansel to the sparrow as another “gift”. He even said, “i give you a boy like i gave the sparrow for Cersei.” (Paraphrasing).

Jon Musen

Lol Joffrey ir Tywin would've Killed the High Sparrow so quick! 😆this was the first time I missed Joffrey

Jermaine Lee

Spartan your dream about Dani 🤣👏

thank u next

Nobody only watches the uncut reactions

Julien

I've been watching reaction videos forever. Yet something I didn't know that was a thing until recent weeks. Absolutely wild. She's a genuinely complex and compelling character! But to believe that she's not evil? Bitch who hates her brother for something that's not his fault, fucks her immediate relatives, intentionally replaces the heirs to the throne w incest babies despite knowing that the discovery would break the kingdoms, orders a child's completely innocent pet executed, diverts food intended.for the poor to feed dogs, and enables her vile son's cruelty? We're supposed to like her? Absolute insanity.

Julien

The notion of 'Alpha' is pretty nonsensical IMO. But Ned would 100% fit the prototype, if it's real. Ned stuck to his morals, his honor, at nearly every point in his life. He's a strong, stoic leader. Ruled Winterfell in peace. He didn't want to be king. Not having a lust for limitless power doesn't make you beta.

Mark Roy

I totall agree with Spartan and Puggy about Theon. I can't understand people who can't simpathise with his fate as well. People expecting him to be totally loyal to his captors is beyond me.

Dname

Was Ned an alpha? I ask that with an open mind. I see leadership from him, but not ambition or entitlement. Like Cersei said in the first season, he could have sat on the iron throne himself after Jamie killed the Mad King, but he didn’t. I think any alpha would have. And he never wanted to be hand of the king, he did it because he felt it was right. I think an alpha would have been much more eager for that power. But I may be convinced otherwise.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Oh, for sure. I watch the uncut version also. But my comment was I feel bad “for anyone watching the uncut reactions ONLY.” :)

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Well said! We shall never see his like again.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Agreed. Little Finger is extremely selfish. Without his schemes, Cat would still be alive and happy in Winterfell with her family.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

She is amazing in EVERYTHING. Did anyone else here watch Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles?

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Spartan talking about his dream playing psychological tricks on him now 😂 I loved that part and can totally relate I always find myself weirdly infatuated with a random character if I ever have a dream with them, which can happen easily when you’re binging.

Jonny Rey

God, watching Cersei’s smile fade as she realizes what’s going on in that last scene just never gets old. I don’t care for the High Sparrow much either but in that regard i was definitely on their side

AG

Lol, why do so many Cersei apologists exist? She might not be as bad as her oldest son, or Ramsay but she is still an awful, hateful, mean person.

Robert L

Aww Spartans little monologue about his Danny dream was so cute lol ☺️

Gummybear

im one of those who watch the uncut reactions, but I also watch the intro before that, and the outro after the episode with them in the uncut. and I think its fair to assume that goes for most of the uncut watchers as well, we are very invested in this journey :p

Martin

Cersei just found out what FAFO really means!

Rachel Taylor

I understand both perspectives but def agree with you in that it was better that, then to see the act itself being depicted. Definitely.

kelly

Right and his rule is just his own interpretation of the word. If you ask me, he preys on lost and broken people looking for purpose and guidance. He's a cult leader lol

kelly

I'm hoping after it's all said and done, they will do a discussion on both shows as a whole to compare and contrast and see what they picked up on for each show by watching the other. I think that would be really interesting as they have great insights most of the time.

kelly

And through all the shit he's seen was able to maintain his humanity through the empathy, kindness and gentle guidance he's shown and given. A beacon of light in the dark world of GoT. He will be missed for sure.

kelly

Don't Drink, you hit the nail on the head. Cersei's kids are her property to her and even though she does love them, she's still heinous ?? And the reason I think S&P are so sick of her is because even the folks who have done terrible things have gotten at least SOME semblance of retribution. Well except Ramsey, that fucker 😖 As someone who really enjoys a villain and really likes Cersei as a character it's like give it a rest people. At this point I think people just want to be contrary for thr sake of being contrary and that's it. Shout out to Lena Heady though because she gives a performance of the ages in this show. She should be very proud of her work.

kelly

I don't even think they'd have gotten far enough to even take Margaery and Loras. Especially since Tywin understood the importance of the Tyrell alliance. Cersei would have been in High Garden for sure by then. And Joff would have gotten a nice laugh at the audacity of the sparrows lmao the fifth season would be very diff I reckon .

kelly

Game of Thrones is always pretty dark but damn this season has been grim af so far lol there's a lot to enjoy about it for sure! So excited for the next few episodes because the building they've done really lends to a great feeling of anticipation.

kelly

I’ll take that a step further and note that even narcissists often love their children BECAUSE they see their children as an extension of themselves (possibly also why Cersei is romantically interested in her twin), not as completely separate people worthy of love in their own right.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

I feel bad for anyone watching the uncut reactions only. This was a hell of an intro discussion to miss out on, between the dream and the special guest video! I love y’all, you’re awesome and hilarious.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Yep, Little Finger hooked up both Cersei and Olena with witnesses who could help cut down the other. He told Cersei the other episode to let Stannis and the Boltons fight things out, then destroy whoever is left. He loves chaos, it’s his ladder.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

aaw Spartan, the dream part was so sweet

Abby

I have to laugh at him saying isn’t it a little late to be watching it. I did when it first came out, but a man must know there will forever be people who were too young (or even unborn) when this came out so this show will have new watchers for decades to come. That is wonderful. A woman is grateful.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Unfortunately the Sparrows would not work on Joffrey and definitely not Ramsay. They would have brought armies in to kill every Sparrow and sacrificed prisoners like Margery, Loras etc. Tywin wouldn't have let them gain any power in Kings Landing. Littlefinger and Olenna arrived too late to prevent it when Cersei had already armed them and gave them power

Mills

Re: camera on Theon during the assault scene last ep, I’ll agree with you and reiterate some of what I said before— I will be WILDLY unpopular and say I thought the decision to include Theon’s reaction to what was happening personalized it for a male audience who may have their own PTSD from having witnessed (perhaps as a child or while immobile) a loved one getting assaulted and feeling (for any literal or psychological reason) powerless to stop it. I don’t personally think including Theon in this scene took away from her suffering, I think it included a bystander man to make MEN think about how terrible SA is, and honestly isn’t it men who need to be thinking about how terrible it is?? What are we all screaming at the screen? For Theon to stop the other man from being violent towards a woman. That’s a good message in real life! Women need allies, men, please help if and when you can, whether that’s by literally intervening in a moment like this or just modeling in your life that you are not ok with women being abused. I accept any rotten fruit or veggies you guys have to throw at me now. I’ll just compost it. :) Edited to add: contrast Theon’s lack of intervention last ep to Samwell’s determination this ep to intervene (with Gilly), even though it meant getting the crap beaten out of him. They’re really highlighting how heroic men can choose to be. This is why Sam is a legend! The show is sending a message to the modern viewers: the man who does nothing when a woman he cares about is attacked doesn’t have balls, but the underestimated man who tries to help against all odds is worthy of love.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

I honestly don't get why Cersei's love for her children is supposed to be this notable quality. Most parents love their children. Loving your children is most natural, most ordinary thing in the world.

Julien

Tywin was holding everything together, as he said, he never trusted cercei not because she's a girl but because she thinks she is smarter than she actually is.

Philippe

I guess you could see it that way. She for sure has had a lot of decisions blow up in her face. BUT….lil finger forced her into a game she isn’t really qualified to play. And she’s mentally screwed up in the head, resulting in an evil nature because of the prophecy she carry’s with her everyday. At this point she’s alone, and being beaten by the tyrells in her mind. In a corner she does horrible things. But without power, she doesn’t stand a chance at preventing the prophecy from coming true. And her kids die. Can you/anyone see it from the POV, that the “need” for power is so she can shave any chance at saving her kids? And not for just being “better/richer” than others?

James McDowell

Maester Aemon is a rarity in Game of Thrones. Someone who lives to an old age and dies a natural death. This is why he will be always OG.

Karli Mac

My only disagreement is about cat. I always saw it as his way of hiding his true intentions, by making you feel like he’s a guy that had his heart broke by this woman. And he is still marked by that love….I never bought that. But I could be wrong. I take him as a snake…no good at all to him.

James McDowell

I like your take on lil finger, and think your 100% right. Up to this point, almost everything that has happened, (the ripple effect) is because of him. Starting with Aryn. Like her or not…..cersie was an unhappy wife that was raised like cattle and developed an sinister type of personality, while being in a romantic relationship with her brother. BUT….She was pulled into all these other things after strictly based on the scheme that lil finger developed. I personally find that to be very layered and deep, amazing writing by George.

James McDowell

LOL i get your Spartan with the dream scenario, i have dreamt those weird ddreams out of nowhere where you all of a sudden feel connected. Also not sure if you guys remember from house of the dragon, the faith of the seven aka the high sparrows was the religion that the hightowers followed. When Alicent took over after Viserys died, she hung faith symobols every where and forced everyone to follow the faith of the seven

Ghostcat

No doubt about it. To me…he approaches the game from a “sigma” pov, rather than from an “alpha” like Ned or Robert. His style is different which makes him very intriguing

James McDowell

I agree. After hearing the writers themselves talk about what they had to do to adapt it was very interesting. On YouTube they have the inside the episode videos for every episode. It was very interesting listening to them talk about how they decided what to do. How much Marten was telling them and where they chose to go from there. And back then were in a hurry to get to their Star Wars trilogy it was very much in the media about it back then. So they wanted to wrap this show up pretty quickly in season 7 and 8. HBO wanted 10 seasons. Circumstances being what they are and certain actors were also ready to wrap it too. So they settled on 8 seasons.

I❤️movies&tvshows

I’m just gonna keep it real, seasons 6 and 7 are my favorite in the entire show. People who complain about the “writers” taking over don’t understand how tv shows work, the writers had already taken over from the very beginning. This show is based off Martens books but this show was not created by Marten, it was D and D’s vision from the very beginning. People think that oh just because they had the books available that that didn’t require any additional work to transmute that to television, which is delusional. Not to mention they had Marten to advise them where the story was going in the books even if it wasn’t written down yet.

Littlefinger, in my opinion, is still avenging Catelyn. From Joffrey’s death from the strangler poison and Cat’s throat being cut. To supplying Oliver (Loras’ lover) to keep Cersei distracted while he set Sansa up in Winterfell. Then Lancel to the high septon to take out Cersei. He used Cersei’s own evil desires against her, to get rid of Margery, knowing how Olenna would feel having her grandchildren arrested. Then played a role in Cersei’s arrest. Remember his position he explained to Sansa when he was leaving Winterfell. He is Lord of the Vale and he believes Stannis could win over the Boltons and appoint Sansa as Warden of the North. Or if Stannis loses he still has Sansa in place to become the only Stark in Winterfell. A powerful position in his mind that could be a future Ally. He told her Tommen is a weak king. By having a hand in Cersei”s arrest, Little finger believes there will be a gap in who is advising Tommen. That’s why he asked Cersei about Jamie’s whereabouts when he met with her. Just like you guys talked about at the end of this reaction. Who is there now to advise Tommen? He is playing a deep game of thrones and revenge. Like Cersei explained to Ned you win or you die when you play the game. This time Tywin/Joffrey/Jamie are not there to play the game with Cersei. Littlefinger is no match for Tommen without any of the other players to help Tommen. That’s what makes this show so special and exciting. This season the writer’s completely took over as the books ended. So we get to see the story told in a new point of view. You guys mentioned why people say they don’t like anything after season 4. It’s not because suddenly the show is awful. It’s because it is being written differently and some people like that style and some don’t. At the end of season 5 compare it to season 2 and you most likely can see the difference in the writing. Nevertheless it’s still one of the best shoes to be on Tv.

I❤️movies&tvshows

As much as I dislike Littlefinger as well, you do have to admit he's one of the best players in the Game of Thrones.

Sarah

You guys do a great job of judging the characters IMO. I am in lock step with you on almost all your opinions…..but I honestly would like to know because I’m curious….why do you pull for lil finger? He orchestrated all of this horrible shit that ended up killing almost all of your favorite characters. I’m genuinely curious about your thought process around that. Also…..I always saw that scene with Cersei and tommen as her feeling actual regret for what she’s doing to her son. When he cries to her, I thought she felt horrible for what she’s doing, not that she was worried about loosing him to marg. She even reassured him, everything she does is for him. (Just my take), and I also don’t think she’s always “smirking” when snp get disgusted by her. I think that’s her resting bitch face most of the time. Which is also why I LOVE Lena for this role!!! I loved the review!!! Can’t wait for the next!!!

James McDowell

😅😅😅

CpaSpartan Pudgey

The daughters of Oberyn in the show are named Tyene, Obara and Nymeria. (Oberyn mentioned his eight daughters to Cersei in Season 4; they have various mothers.) Tyene is the one who poisoned Bronn and gave him the antidote.

Elizabeth D.

It’s so crazy all of the ways the Cersei’s plans back fired. She sent away Jamie (the only person she could trust to stand up for her), her uncle Kevan aka the only person with any sense on the council atp, and played with fire regarding the High Sparrow and got 3rd degree burned. When Tywin was killed she immediately turned into a kid in a candy store— using her authority Willy nilly for her own personal gain. Also, with Cersei gone, Tommen is completely isolated (another contingency she never considered). Tywin did warn her that she not as smart as she thinks she is🧐

girl gal

Cersei really IS a "hateful bitch". First time I saw that scene it struck me how perfectly this fits her. But what is most despicable about Cersei, is how stupid she is, and despite her only redeeming quality bding her love for her children, she keeps ruining even that with her stupidity. For example when she bothered and spied on Tyrion in season 2, Myrcella got sent in Dorne far way from her. When she accused Tyrion of killing Joeffrey, Tywin got killed. Now by giving weapons and power to the Fiath Militant, she not only hurt Tommen, but also got imprisoned herself. (there are certainly many other instances of her doing that, but I forgot about some of them) Literally all her plans end up biting her in the ass in the end... But not without causing real damage to others before ! She really is despicable.

Mathπ

Cersei's actor Lena Headey was amazing in this episode.

S.

Please remember that it was actually Tyrion who sent Myrcella to Dorne, NOT Cercei. I am not defending Cercei, and I don't really care for her, but I do appreciate the layers to her character and can understand why she is the way she is. For example, it kind of makes sense why she hates Tyrion so much. When she was little, she listened to her father, who said Tyrion was a monster who killed her mother. Then later, Tyrion sent her only daughter away to Dorne to be married, the same way Cercei was (and she hated it). Then, when Joffrey died, she did fully believe that Tyrion killed him. And of course later he killed their father. So in her mind he's killed both her parents and endangered all her children. She loves Jamie, but also feels betrayed by him for always sticking up for the one person who, in her mind, is causing her so much harm. And of course she hates Margaery because of the prophecy from the witch who said her children will all die, and a younger, more beautiful Queen will cast her aside. She problably thinks that if she can break this prophecy and remain the Queen, her children will be safe, so it makes sense that she will try to get rid of Margaery.

James Woodford

A MESSAGE FROM JAQEN IS SO COOL!! Y’all are officially big time now🤩

girl gal

Spartan's joy at Cersei's downfall was great 😂😂

Mzuka

I’m not sure if you connected the dots. Littlefinger played both Lannisters and Tyrells. He was the one who procured evidence to Cersei about the sins of Loras (the blond brothel guy was his gift to her). He then made it seem like he was offering Olenna the same kind of gift, the ''young man'' Lancel Lannister's confession, an evidence of Cersei’s sins. Lancel's confession has definitely nothing to do with Baelish's plan, but he took advantage of it and took credit for it. There's another part of this that's more of a theory, not gonna go into that.

HDN

If you remember Baelish gave Cersei the info about he guy who Lora’s was with (one of the brothel workers). He was set up with littlefingers help. And as bad as Cersei is, the high sparrow is a religious zealot and that’s so dangerous and he cannot be allowed to act with that type of unchecked impunity. Tommen is weak and stupid for allowing any of his to happen. Joffrey or any other king would’ve had his ass tf up out of here before he became a real problem but he’s a punk and listened to Cersei’s manipulative ass. And I liked seeing Cersei lose (esp bc she really set her self up) but I also didn’t like to see someone that locked Loras up for being gay and his sister for defending him, win. And I don’t think he would see eye to eye w/ Ned for several reasons. The faith of the 7 don’t respect the old gods and see those who worship them as barbarians. And given that ned was merciful & noble, I don’t think he would’ve handed Cersei and the kids to him if he were to see how brutal he is. The high sparrow would’ve put Cersei and possibly all her children to death and Ned was too nice to do that. And I really don’t see how the high sparrow is honorable or noble. I think he’s entirely too self righteous. Plus he harshly punishes high nobles but besides fed in the poor I haven’t s’en him do much for the smallfolk. Plus the “justice” he dispenses is just cruel and brutal. A couple episodes ago he had the faith militant being unnecessarily cruel to the common folk who are jus trying to get by. Like jus bc you’re a whore you deserve to get beat or killed? Especially when everyone in flea bottom is just doing what they can to survive. This man is insane and has NONE of the mothers mercy that he be talking about.

NeneSays

The High Septon is a religious zealot imposing his own morality through a promise of equality. But the equality he offers is everyone being equally beholden to his rule.

Roy Koopa

Whoa. Congrats on the video from Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen H'ghar)! That was lovely 🥳🎉🍾🎊🍺🔥

Julien

Regarding the intro: yeah, there was A LOT of anger about why the camera focused on Theon during Sansa's rape scene. Many felt that drew focus from her to him - which I found immensely silly. It was a tasteful way to film a horrifying scene. To me, the intent was obviously to maintain respect for Sansa, not to focus on Theon at her expanse. But others saw it as diverting from a woman's plight to focus on a man. 🤷‍♂️ My god, as I explained in the comments of that episode, I was so angry that I legit QUIT the show for a whole ass year. Theon wasn't remotely the reason for that! Yeah, there was a lot of anger 😅

Julien

And now you see just how ambitious of a guy the High Sparrow is.. What a dude.

Nick Wright

You guys I needed this so bad ❤️❤️

Sasha

Lmao spartans dream too relatable hahah
