I am not stating this as a denouncing of Bella's acting ability, just to clarify. It is quite common for actors to film scenes out of order. For example in HotD the "knife scene" with everyone in it was one of the first scenes shot by most of the adult actors together.

Why would he lie about this? The only thing that would achieve is him getting shredded in the comments for 9 episodes, not exactly enjoyable. He said himself in episode 1 he doesn't remember much. I think it is important to realize this was a 15 hour game that he played only once 10 years ago. This game did not have the same impact on everyone, and not all people prioritize videogame memories over other things.

Easily the most powerful scene in the game. Probably the best episode so far too.

I just watched the second part of Sony's Creator to Creator interview and Bella filmed the reunion scene with Pedro first before doing the killing David scene! Bella is so freaking good, it blows my mind. Award season, look out (if there's any justice in the award world).

For some reason I feel like I heard they are planning to make two seasons out of part 2 of the game, just since they're pretty sure it will last through at least 3 seasons. I haven't played the game, but do feel like they rushed this season to get to the end of part 1 of the game, especially since it's only a 9 episode season, and the finale is only about 50 minutes, instead of an epic 90-ish minutes like we got with episodes 1 & 3. But, I love it so far, so trust that it will have a great ending before we have to wait maybe 2 years for season 2.

It's ironic that the time when Joel finally embraces Ellie as a daughter is the time when she proves that she can handle herself. Ellie essentially emancipated herself in this episode. And yet she has never needed Joel more than here. Theirs is an emotional need, not a practical one. They chose each other.

I know it's kind of a running joke at this point, but I'm fully convinced that Spartan played a completely different game and thought it was The Last of Us. The David chapter is probably one of the most iconic parts of the entire game and this episode was almost all exactly how the game played out. Honestly, this was probably the most faithful episode to the game we've had so far. I would not be surprised if next week's episode comes along and we get a "I didn't remember any of that."

The fungal network really came into play in episode 5, when the infected came up from underground, they were initially somewhere else coming up from under a building and Kathleen was like we’ll deal with this later. Then after the truck explodes later in the episode, the infected traveled to that spot and burst out of the ground.
I think the pacing has been genius so far, never played the game but this show has become one of my favorites of all time. It already got renewed for a season 2 pretty early on, so I feel like things they didn’t expand on this season they will in the next.

About David's philosophy about the fungi: I think that was just his way of justifying his 'violent heart', i.e. he thrived in these times because he could let it out and be the sick fuck he is and didn't have to 'struggle with it' as he put it, try to be anything else. As people started killing each other as infected, he probably went 'Oh, so I'm not the only one! This makes sense, killing each other, we are all just being part of nature, doing what nature wants us to do'.

For some reason, I'm not actually worried about the finale - these guys seem to be as pro as pro can get, so I have faith they will do the rest of the game justice in what needs to happen to the characters and their arcs.

It feels as if James felt Ellie was better off dead than in the hands of David. He wanted to let her go. When that idea failed, he wanted to kill her. He knew what David was. He knew what would happen to Ellie. There was a cage for a reason. He said, "The fight is my favorite part." Imagine what that man being a teacher. Good on Ellie for taking that absolute creep out.

Fun fact: apparently the actor who plays the character James, is the guy who voiced Joel in the games
