Game of Thrones 4x7 Reaction & Review

Comments

There is maybe one or two people in the history of Westeros/Esos that could beat Baristan in his prime. Certainly no one alive during the Game of Thrones story. Jamie (with both hands), Robert, and Kal Drogo could beat the mountain pretty confidently. Daario, the Hound, and a few other characters would be a close fight.

Farbod

I think all those matchups against the mountain would be basically 50/50. All things even, Barristan and Robert should be able to beat the mountain but the consequences of a slip up are more massive so i think it evens out.

Cinema's Gate

I think all the guys you mentioned, in their prime, could beat the mountain. He's not a particularly skilled fighter, he's just big and powerful. We've never seen him fight anyone with any crazy skill either. Usually just slaughtering peasants. He can overpower the weak, but I don't think he could out maneuver the skilled.

J_Fley .

Had to join patreon for these last few episodes. So epic.

J_Fley .

What are you referring to?

Mark Roy

Not what I was referring to

Daryl

The fuck? Then don't watch. It's a tense show. Nobody wants them to fake a reaction.

Jakob Schaefer

I love how much you both are enjoying this show ,its great to see

LEE PARKER

Less tension guys. Uncomfortable to watch. 👍

Daryl

To be fair, Theon didn’t kill or burn those boys. Dagmer was the one who killed and burned them.

N_JR

oh, also Robert Baratheon and Oberyn maybe, they're also elite fighters

Belilos

I think it's generally accepted that ser Arthur Dayne, the sword of the morning and Aemon the dragonknight were tied for the best swordfighters in westerosi history - however to answer your question, Barristan, and Jaime in his prime could both almost match those men above and could both dispatch the mountain with ease. All a matter of opinion of course :D

Belilos

Great points on Sansa as a character!

Krystal

I forgot Hot pie shows up in the episode 🥲 love that he was still looking out for Arya even though he hasn’t seen her in a while. Oberyn is amazing, I was literally cheering when he volunteered to be Tyrion’s champion. 😭

Ailene Evangelista

Theon killed 2 young innocent boys. I get why you fell sorry for him but keep that in mind

Adrian

Season 4 is so good. I forget what happens next episode but I’m sure it’s great.

Ludus Aurea

Season 6 is amazing

Joseph Campbell

This seasons definitely peak game of thrones but there are still really good seasons to come. I can’t wait to see you guys watch them!

Joseph Campbell

I absolutely agree. What's weird for me is that House of the Dragon doesn't really have any memorable themes. The other shows he works on all seem to have repeating variations of themes, but HotD just doesn't have the mojo the other shows do. And it's hard to top his work on GoT.

John Neiberger

it’s not a matter of being woke or not. having sympathy doesn’t make someone woke. not that i think she didn’t deserve the slap. she def did but there’s no reason to bring woke into it.

Kayla Carlyle

One of the best episodes of the show in my opinion.

Corncobtv

Your reactions and discussions are some of the best i've seen from reactors! you're both a joy to watch as you invest yourselves and become excited about this show. The next two episodes are two of the best in GOT history, can't wait!

Ghostcat

Fun fact: when Tyrion and Bronn are chatting, and Tyrion says "you and my sister deserve each other", that line wasn't actually in Bronn's actor script, as the showrunners wanted to have a bit of fun and catch Bronn's actor off guard. Bronn's actor (Jerome Flynn) and the actress who plays Cersei used to date, and they had a bad falling out. Such a bad falling out that Lena Headey (Cersei) made sure that her and Bronn rarely share scenes together. Love Bronn's smirk after Tyrion says that line though.

TallTyrionLannister

Season 6 is definitely my favorite but this season is incredible too. I love your reactions guys.

Dani

Absolutely, there are several swordsmen that could take on the Mountain in their prime. The Mountain isn’t so much of a gifted swordsman rather than he’s just BIG and STRONG.

Maggie Jordan

Proudly an idiot!

ATG

When I got to this episode, I really had a lot of sympathy for Theon...so you guys are not alone in that Assessment. Oh yea Hot Pie for King of the Seven Kingdoms...

Phillip

Please follow the spoiler rules we post on each video.

SuddenImpulse

Yeah Barristan Selmy was in a league of his own back then.

Erwin Smith

Season 4 is the BEST season! I love Prince Oberyn!

Eddie House

You should know by now, the 9th episode every season is when shit hits the fan

Trey Stewart

I've been curious for a while now, do you guys get credit for the view when we watch these early access? Or do you only get credit once the video is visible on youtube for everyone?

Kelschman

Yeah if I was in Theons place I would not have killed two children and sir Rodrick. He was in a good position with the starks. A respected man and brother. But because his fragile ego he did all this horrible things. I still don’t think he deserves that torture. But I understand the people very well who hate Theon.

Rey Jr

In addition to Barristan, Jaime, and Robert in his prime, The Hound can also stand his ground against the Mountain, as seen in season 1.

IanJ

Oberyn is the Daemon of this series for me. Unpredictable badass warriors

Jared

Spartan to answer your request King Robert is no match to the Mountain. Sir Barristan Selmy will kill the Mountain in no time. Sir Barristan at the age of 16 defeated Sir Duncan the tall. In season 3 Jeffery was shaming Jamie that nothing was written about his achievements in the book of knights of Westeros and more than 4 pages were written about the achievements of Sir Duncan. He defeated and killed Maelys Blackfyre a man strong enough to rip a man’s head off with his hands. He is equal to Sir Arthur Dyane the best swordsman in Westeros.

IBRAHIM ALJABOR

In the books Jeffery is no good he kept cutting himself on the iron throne that means he is not fit to set on it. His daily hobby is to stand on the wall of the gate of the red keep and throw coins to the poor and when the people gather to collect the coins he shots them with his cross bow.

IBRAHIM ALJABOR

I think the men The Mountain are killing in this episode are prisoners, probably found guilty of raping or murdering. It's still horrible to watch, though.

Steffen Eide

I love how you see it as season 3 part 2. It IS. It's all book 3. (Book 1 was s1, book 2 was s2, S3 and S4 are book 3).

Rainbow

One of the things I love about GoT is how Ramin Djawadi uses character themes to weave a story. Listen to the soundtrack sometime, and you'll notice how often you'll hear Littlefinger's theme "mocking bird" playing in the background of a lot of songs. Its almost unnoticeable, but its there, subtly influencing the tune of whatever's playing.

Evilsponge

Right. I also think that people forget that although Theon may have been treated "well", he was still a young child when he was rejected and essentially given away by his bio father and then raised as a prisoner who was often reminded he was a prisoner. There was probably a lot of confusion and resentment towards both sides as well as a need to prove himself to one or the other. Theon is so young when we meet him. Barely a young man. It's awful what he did, but for me, I think he's more than paid for it and refusing to acknowledge that it's possible for him to have been wrong but also not need to suffer endlessly (especially when you've got lovers of Tywin and even Jaime who I admit is a far better character than Tywin in terms of genuine decency) for it is weird.

kelly

One of the three best moments of this season imo and one of my favorites in general, too. It’s all so subtle and yet delivered so we’ll that it’s powerful.

Katie Thomas

next episode 🙃

Monkey D. Tomy

I love how deeply you guys think about all the characters and storylines, you guys are so into it, it's great to watch. Reliving this incredible show with you guys is the highlight of my week! Thank you!

James K

Another great reaction guys! Love the enthusiasm for this show, its really is one of the greatest shows, I used to sit up dead late saying "oh just one more" when I first watched them because I needed to know what happened next! Looking forward to the next episode reaction.

Jeannie

People who get mad are the woke idiots I'm guessing? In the context of the world and time period it makes total sense. They think slapping the Queen is bad? Think about what happens in the homes of the commoners...

Roma

I never understood the hate Theon gets. How is it okay that we absolutely love Tywin for the genius he is, while he's responsible for so many atrocities like wiping out House Reyne of Castamere + House Tarbeck, and never paid for it, but when it comes to Theon "Nahhh let him get flayed both physically and mentally". If he had more wits and was more clever you'd forgive his cruelty?

HDN

Pudgey the writers spend 2 minutes and 56 seconds explaining little finger on the HBO inside the episode you tube channel. You can have your mod look at it first t make sure but HBO purposely did not put any spoilers in it.

I❤️movies&tvshows

Sorry it’s called the game of thrones YouTube channel. It’s produced by HBO. https://youtu.be/ctb_GQD8-nc

I❤️movies&tvshows

Pudgey mentioned she would like to know what the writers think or meant. The HBO YouTube channel has interviews with the writers and actors for each episode. It does not give any spoilers. It is just the writers explaining the story and the actors talking about how they portrayed it. On the same YouTube channel they have the episode revealed shows. This explains how the episode was filmed, what special effects they use, or how the set was created. With the actors talking about the special effects etc. Again with no spoilers. It’s very cool to watch. It gives insight like the history and lore videos HBO puts out. No spoilers.

I❤️movies&tvshows

The thing about Jaime for me is that I believe he has always been the man we love and see him as now, its just that when he is in proximity to Cersei, he becomes very ugly, just like her. There is a serious level of codependent toxicity between them and in every instance I can think of where Jaime isn't having to think about protecting Cersei or keeping her best interest in mind, hes a decent man. She is like poison to him. imo. And as far as the Theon thing goes, I feel the same as you all. Its ok to acknowledge how shit Theon is and has been, but ultimately what's happening to him is really terrible. I'm not excusing his mistakes but there is so much more nuance to him than people give credit for. The same goes for Sansa. I'm really pleased to see how empathetic you both have been about her as well because the hate she received from the first season was really weird and people refused to and still refuse to give her the same grace that they have given someone like Jaime for example. Which makes it even stranger to me because she was a young girl when this all began and there are a number of reasons why she was/is the way that she is.. Big up to you both for having some semblance of media literacy that so many seem to lack. Also, Pudgey is right. Littlefinger makes for a fascinating character study.

kelly

the people who got salty over cersei getting slapped are idiots

Locke

I've seen this so many times...but that scene with Tyrion and Oberyn always gets me. They are killing it. Outstanding writing both story and dialogue, I cant praise it enough. Pedro Pascal with that nuanced delivery, the contempt in his voice even through that accent really shows what a great actor is he, and Peter Dinklage doesnt say much but the way his expression changes its really heartbreaking. Easily one of the best episode of the show. The ups and downs of this show is really in the swing now, prepare your minds to be blown. :) Another great vid guys, really enjoyed it, getting popcorn ready for the next one.

neutchain

That scene is also taken almost exactly from the book. I remember reading that scene probably 10 years before the show came out, and still remembering how vividly written it was. When they re-created that scene in the show, it sent chills up my spine. PS: I'm not a book purist. I love most of the changes they made for the show (different medium requires some different storytelling beats and techniques). But some of those moments that are re-created are wonderful. The two biggest departures from the book that I understand changing but I really wish we could have seen are Dany's visions in the House of the Undying (impossible to film because it would have spoiled too much, when you see the faces attached to the people in the visions whom Dany had never met) and one of my favorite scenes in all the books: Where Meera Reed tells the story of the Knight of the Laughing Tree. Again, that story would have given away too much when visualized. They had to cut it. But it's such a pivotal moment in the books.

David Thomas

if you haven't watched the next episode yet then this comment isn't for you spartan & pudgey read it after by all means but... timestamp 30:31 ... ahahaha

A.D

Do you know, I *never* put that together. But that's almost definitely true, even in the books.

Roy Koopa

Now you guys feel exactly as I did about Oberyn. He’s just the coolest and smartest guy (he’s even empathetic - hard to come by in this world) AND he just oozes charisma. He’s in my top 3 characters in all of GoT.

Shay

He said “not with those teeth” lmaoooo This episode is so great. That scene with Oberyn and Tyrion makes me tear up every time i see it. Littlefinger is a creep. And Arya and the Hound are peak duo for me. Loved this reaction guys!

AG

The reason is said in this scene: this works now better because we already knew what she had done (so when this scene started, we could understand her a bit, where she is coming from, and so she wasn't just a pure lunatic in this scene).

S.

When Oberyn holds up the torch and says “I will be your champion” so powerfully🔥it’s almost overwhelming bc of how well they built our empathy and respect Tyrion in the first half. Then to see him finally get the aid he deserves just as he’s lost hope🤌🏾 top got w moment

girl gal

With Dany and Jorah a *bit of clarity— so she originally was going to have Daario kill all of the masters indiscriminately in Yunkai. This route would have her making the same mistake that she made in Meereen. Jorah’s council lead her to instead first give the masters an opportunity to join her. This is just cool bc she generally doesn’t change her mind even an inch. Jorahs little smirk is so 🥹. It reminded him of where he stands with Dany- by her side as her closest friend and advisor #JorahMyAndal 🤌🏾

girl gal

Jaime and barristan (in his prime and Jaime with his sword hand) could have definitely killed the mountain king Robert relied on strength so I think it would be a lot harder since the mountain also relies on his strength and size.

Y I

Nah bro roberts biggest thing was his strength that wouldn’t hold up against the mountain imo prime Jaime and barristan selmy might have been able to

Y I

Haha when Spartan said "is the joker done" I cracked up because I was literally thinking we have joker Pudgey back at that moment.

Valcor

Oberyns speech to Tyrion always makes me tear up.

Valcor

Robert was an absolute stud in his prime. It would be close but if I had to pick between him and the mountain I’m going with Robert every time. Also of course we don’t condone hitting your wife but Cersei is evil.

Darrell Henry

Ever notice how much Robin looks like "Uncle Peter"? 🤔 Especially after Lyssa and Peter "had their wedding night many years ago."

Diana Gero

IIRC in the books the Littlefinger reveal happens here instead of earlier when he and Lysa meet. I kinda wonder why they changed that because I feel it would've been more dramatic as it was... Also Oberyn is the 🐐.

Munir

Pedro the legend, IMO his brst acting 👏. But I feel that way about nearly every character from GOT

Jermaine Lee

Jaime and Brienne in the bath is the only one that takes it for me.

Mzuka

It is interesting that you said season 4 feels like part 2 of season 3 since 3 and 4 are each half of the third book while 1 and 2 were each the first and second book respectively.

Nick Huber

“It’s just a baby.” That line kills me every time 🥺

Sarah Stapleton

Fun fact: the scene with Oberyn & Tyrion in the cell was the very 1st one Pedro Pascal & Peter Dinklage filmed together! And they knocked it out of the park. Just incredible acting. Prince Oberyn is one of my favorite characters in the series. The shots of Sansa building Winterfell in the snow are some of the most beautiful IMHO. The visuals are always amazing on GOT. Love the scene between Arya & the Hound as well, so tender the way they shot their faces so close together.

Robin Lee Melendez

That scene at the end with Tyrion and Oberyn is probably my favorite scene in the entire show

The Door

I would say I agree with this, with the caveat that Barristan vs Arthur, if both in their *prime*... Barristan could win if Dayne didn't have his special sword, but it would be a nailbiter of a tough fight regardless, and the specifics of the fight could potentially lead to either winning.

SuddenImpulse

IMO, Barristan, Jaime and King Robert in their prime could all beat the Mountain (in that order). The Mountain is faster than he looks and crazy strong, but he's not nearly as skilled as any of them. Barristan was an absolute beast in his prime (he still is), he killed Maelys the Monstrous, who was kind of like the Mountain of his day. Barristan himself said that Jaime is the most naturally talented swordsman he ever met. The only person for sure better than either of them was Arthur Dayne.
