Game of Thrones 2x6 Reaction and Review

Comments

Pudgey thought Talisa would be good for Rob at this point. Unfortunately she ended up being the worst possible thing for him. If Rob would of taken Spartans initial advice and just forget about her his fate might of been different

Also, for what it’s worth, and I know I’m really late, but in the book he’s not too torn about which side he should be on. He pretty much instantly sided against the Starks. If I remember correctly it was even his idea to take the north, not Balons, and he never thinks about warning Robb

Jeremy Garner

You mean Ardie Savea lol

Tyson Wilson

Yup they also have a baby together now

Mango Maniac

No, I've watched the show more times than I could count.

FullMetal B

Are you watching this show for the first time?

Julien

@Sudden, definitely a botched execution in the book, where we experience it in a Theon chapter; and everything I saw in the show is consistent with that. He couldn't even get this demonstration of strength and authority right. He fucked up.

Julien

What you say is convincing about the reality of executions using inadequate swords. Nonetheless the sequence’s function in the episode is to highlight Theon’s inadequacy as a leader and as a person, particularly in contrast to John. Both swing a sword that day but only one lands where it should.

Daniel Siegel

It's basically a youtube joke video where the GoT characters have different dialogue voices over their scenes. Can link it to you in mod chat in the future if you are curious about it.

SuddenImpulse

if GOT was an early 2000's comedy sitcom instead of the brutal drama that it is... it's so funny and well done!

kkoe

Jakka Hakka sounds like it could be the name of the number eight in the All-Blacks (New Zealand's national rugby team) LOL

Calu

I was never really sure if that is intended to be portrayed as a botched execution. It might be to some extent as he clearly wasn't really wanting to do this and was partially goaded into it and an emotional and psychological mess, but this is also fairly accurate to real world history. In modern media most beheadings are shown to be quick, single strikes, but in the real world this rarely happened as the body is just too strong to cleanly cut from traditional swords and their sharpness and weight. It was common for these situations to take repeated strikes to....finish the job. This is why executioner swords that had a lot of weight and force behind them were sometimes used, and its why the guillotine became so heavily used during the French revolution. Ned's and the Nights Watch deserter were clean primarily because they were done with a Valyrian steel sword.

Mods.... do you know what this is? 🤔

I like what Clark Kent— I mean Spartan in glasses— said about the theme this episode being leadership. I would add that part of the message was that a good leader has to have compassion. Joffrey’s lack of compassion leads the people to hate him. Theon botched the execution of someone who didn’t deserve to die. John in contrast couldn’t execute the girl because he saw her as a person, not just an enemy.

Daniel Siegel

I was definitely looking forward to this episode, mostly for the stuff at Winterfell and King's Landing. Admittedly, I didn't remember that the later scenes with Osha were also in this one. Nice callback to the beginning of the season, Pudgey!

To add my own two cents: I think he's committing to his father's side, but he's not 100% committed. He's pumping himself up in having chosen a side, and believing in that side to push through any doubts, inhibitions, etc. When Maester Luwin appeals to him, he's hesitant and more subdued for a moment, but then it's like there's a mask that he puts back on.

AB-5

I love that you guys are starting to notice Sandor "The Hound" Clegane. Great character.

Nick Wright

Of course, no worries! I definitely understand where you are coming from. I think we actually agree. He was definitely conflicted earlier on and then really ended up just committing to it after a certain point, and had gone past a point of no return. I think he was quite well aware that invading Winterfell, and then additionally executing Rodrik, meant that any further interactions with the Starks or their bannermen would be hostile. So I think he just went all in on it at that point emotionally and psychologically. There is no excuse for what he did.

SuddenImpulse

Igrit and Jon met on the show and got married. They are together today...

It's perfectly fine with me if you understand him, but I see that differently. As I said, I know he's conflicted and it might not be easy to handle that mentally. But he just threw away his fairly good past and relations - and started to be brutally cruel to his once-quasi family. And he doesn't seem much tormented by it afterwards - he enjoys a fuck and sleeps pretty well. For me, this is way over the line, I could not forgive that. (Btw, I know the show, and the books).

CherryPi

This is a bit more complicated than the show made it out due to lack of time or internal thoughts shown. He was generally treated a lot better by the Starks than is normally the case for a War-resultant ward, but he was still generally treated as an outsider, and you can see a lot of his identity a pride is tied to what little he remembers of his family, culture, and home. Yes his father is brash, but understandably so in this situation. He craves approval and a sense of family belonging that he has not had for 95% of his life. He did struggle with this situation for a fair bit of time, and unfortunately when you are stuck between two choices in a world like this sometimes the choices lead to brutal results. In this case he would be disowned and likely eventually led into a violent situation with his family, his original home and culture, or he would be disowned by the Starks and face a similar fate. Theon is doing a terrible thing, but at the same time one can understand why he is doing it, and how he got to this point. He is also young, younger in the books than in the show.

SuddenImpulse

I dont think that's fair. There is a lot more to it then that. But I can't say anymore right now.

FullMetal B

My bad, didn’t see the full length reaction when I wrote this comment.

Juliet N

Maybe Theon is conflicted but he was with the Starks for years, they were his brothers and sisters. And along comes his brash father, and he forgets all that after a few days? And it's not only about family and friednship, he even swore fealty to King Robb! To impress his daddy, he starts to kill, torture and humilitate just like that. This is a huge betrayal, and he still made it quite easily.

CherryPi

what do you mean? all edited reactions come with full length versions as well

CpaSpartan Pudgey

I'm sure you know already, but incase you don't, the actor Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) and actress Rose Leslie (Ygritte) fell in love during this season and later married after Game of Thrones.

PHIL

Ok, since they are now passed getting any spoilers from it, can we work in a reaction to the Game of Thrones bad lip reading/medieval fun time land? Would absolutely love that!

FullMetal B

There's literally a 10-min looped video of Tyrion slapping Joffrey on Youtube. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYNeT2nzEgA

Charlotte Zhang

Are you guys not gonna make unedited reactions anymore?

IMHO Game of Thrones is about 1. Power: How people relate to it, what they will or won't do for it, and what it costs them as people 2. Identity: Are people more than their names, families, or allegiances? Are we born into our families or is family something we find & make for ourselves? Are we responsible for the deeds our families do, or the promises they make? Can we begin as one thing and become another? How does power (or loss of power) change who we are? I love fiction that asks big questions like these.

Robin Lee Melendez

I messed up after last episode and watched the rest of the season cause it's so good 😭. Tywin and Aryas scenes in this and last episode are just so good. Another great pairing of characters like Tryion and Bronn. Or Tyrion with literally any other character lol.

FullMetal B

IT'S NOT A THIRD EYE, SPARTAN (yes i watched the conclusion, just messing w ya)

Julien

Ygritte and Jon snow are married in real life. I love their interaction on the show

Louis Melendez

Theon was writing a letter to Robb Stark to tell them about his father's actions, but in that same scene, he makes his decision by burning the letter, rather than sending it to Robb. It shows the conflict within himself, but him making a decision in the end to side with the Greyjoys.

Jonoridge

So everyone (other reactors) is nervous about Arya and miss the importance of Tywin and Littlefinger's conversation.

Bran Flakes

I love how quickly this one was released since the last 👌🏻

Sean van Hengel
