Chainsaw man decision
Added 2022-11-03 00:37:16 +0000 UTCHey all, so we are making the decision not to continue Chainsaw man on the channel, as the response was lower then we were aiming for and with our current resources we can't justify the editing time to a show that isn't doing well on the channel. HOWEVER
we want to make it very clear, especially to those who seemed upset by our decision to do an Anime, that Anime and Animated shows (like invincible) will be an integral part of the channel and our vision for this community alongside Live action shows. Not everyone has to like every show we do but these different types of series reflect what we love and we want to be able to bring it all on the channel. So we are definitely not giving up on Anime and will continue to try until we build an Anime community as well! We aim to have 1 live action alongside 1 anime as our ideal future staples.
We apologise to those who were excited in our episode 1, we really appreciate your support and will cover many anime in the future, but for the reasons mentioned above, will be stopping chainsaw man for now.
To those people who are inevitably going to tell us to do more Game of Thrones or start another big live action series, you must understand our GOT Reaction videos take between 6-8 hours to edit not including the full length or recording time, these shows are very big and take a lot of time and we cant cover 2 shows of this nature at our current size and resource availability. So we will still be trying to fit in an anime or smaller series for our 3rd slot for the time being, but our approach now will be that the 1st episode will be experimental to see how it does on the YouTube market, and if we are satisfied with the response we will continue, if not we will try another show.
2 shows we are interested in that seem to be requested a fair bit are Avatar the Last Airbender and Demon Slayer (eng dub). We are open to more suggestions of shows you think do well on reaction channels and fall within the nature of these shows, but please vote below and let us know which you would prefer we try!
Thanks for understanding, soon enough we will have an anime audience as well and be able to smoothly transition between both genres. To all of you that supported us following what we enjoyed regardless of your preference, we appreciate ya'll a lot and reflect the kind of community we aim to build! Much love

2022-11-07 19:40:56 +0000 UTC@Matthew My main two shows I am wanting them to watch after GoT are Breaking Bad and The Expanse. Even if it's not their next show, I wouldn't be at all surprised if its one of the next big shows they watch. As Mama Browsss said, there are not that many reactors that haven't already watched it, and it really doesn't need any help on poll votes.

2022-11-06 22:42:56 +0000 UTCYes! That would be epic! Not many Breaking Bad reactions out there since most already saw it.

2022-11-06 00:50:53 +0000 UTCDefinitely one of the best written shows ever, but if they're worried about the amount of views the reactions will get then I'm worried Dark wouldn't cut it as it doesn't exactly pull the most viewers as it appeals to a more niche audience.

2022-11-05 09:57:47 +0000 UTCthat’s exactly why i always recommend it!!! it’s such a great show/world that gets so little attention and it’s just so good

2022-11-04 09:45:38 +0000 UTCI am very excited for Shadow and Bone season 2. I knew nothing about the world and watched Season 1 randomly one day and it pulled me in big time. Such a pleasant surprise. Really underrated and doesn't give the attention it deserves honestly.

2022-11-03 23:57:41 +0000 UTCA good anime for the GOT crowd is Attack on Titan if you haven't watched it. I would at the very least (if you've watched it) recommend reacting to the final part of the series when it returns. A lot of people will be looking for reactors for it. I'd also recommend Death Note which is excellent (and has a good English dub).

2022-11-03 22:56:24 +0000 UTCI sync the episode on the TV and the full lenght react on the smartphone. Since I don't have much free time on the week I don't mind watching two episodes a week. I've watched the last episode of season 1 in advance because I could not wait and it felt like missing they comments. Rather wait from now on. Wierd I know.

2022-11-03 20:10:38 +0000 UTC@Ademis, Legit curious, when you say watch along aside them, do you mean that your first time watching GOT is as a reaction video? Or do you watch the episodes by yourself first?
Julien
2022-11-03 19:52:53 +0000 UTCmy two cents to add to this is to possible leave a third limited or mini series/movie review lane open that could be bi-weekly/bi-monthly along with one live and one anime. Only because the two series you have selected aren't short, I believe you have 60ish episodes for each to do (or they are aren't short for weekly reviews, i know there are much longer anime series you could have selected). As for the anime to choose, I recently watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners that has a current wave of attention from fans and reactors, but I also am not that big into anime, so take my suggest with a grain of salt.

2022-11-03 18:26:02 +0000 UTCavatar is a solid show! you’ll get a lot of new viewers from it. maybe watching shows with fewer episodes etc will be better for the time being, like sandman (which has just been renewed for a second season) or shadow bone (the second season premieres next year)
Alina
2022-11-03 18:14:54 +0000 UTCI think a solid approach would be to have one on-going live action series, one on-going animated/anime series, and to add some variety by doing a limited/mini reaction series (stuff like Chernobyl, Sharp Objects, Watchmen, Over the Garden Wall, etc.).

2022-11-03 13:06:35 +0000 UTCATLA is the perfect show for them as it attracts both the western audience (which is most of their current audience) and the anime audience as well. It also provides such a variety of content for them to talk about. There’s never really a dull moment throughout the show and by the time they reach the finale of Book 1 and start of Book 2, their enjoyment of the show and viewership will only increase from there. The entirety of Book 2 & 3 is a complete masterpiece.

2022-11-03 12:13:45 +0000 UTCI truly think you should consider watching Dragon quest : the adventure of Daï ! It's an old classic from the 90's which inspired a lot of mangas you know now, like naruto for example (and my favorite manga for the last 25 years) with a new anime released in 2020 that just ended. The story is really similar to a rpg, a bit childish at first and very epic later. 100 episodes for a cool story and amazing characters ! Seriously, it's an underrated anime so I don't think it will be worth for you to watch it now. But if you don't want to be one of these channels with the exact same content, please keep this anime in mind. Sometimes the show you watch will benefit almost as much as you from your reactions..

2022-11-03 09:38:22 +0000 UTCHave you thought about doing movies? Maybe one every 2 weeks or so. Guarantee that will bring in a lot of viewership if you pick the right films
TallTyrionLannister
2022-11-03 07:08:49 +0000 UTCThis is true. Most shows aren't going to net the kind of big response and viewcounts that GoT does on youtube, even a fair few of the other "big" reaction shows, anyone that expects that to happen is going to have a really bad time. Those consistently high view counts will come with time as a long term consistent community grows subscriber wise. Game of Thrones is largely the reason a lot of these bigger reaction channels even exist nowadays, they got their start in big growth with GoT or similar shows but their current large numbers are the result of long-term more normal paced growth from other content over time.
SuddenImpulse
2022-11-03 06:10:11 +0000 UTCUnfortunately it really depends on finances and channel popularity as far as when it makes sense to hire an editor. Reaction editors are actually REALLY expensive. Like a lot more money on average than most people probably assume it is. Some people have close friends that give them a "friend" discount or manage to find an exceptionally good deal, but that's the reason most reaction and gamer channels do their own editing, it either cuts too much into their patreon income or actually surpasses it and they end up losing money on the whole venture. You don't want to get an editor before you have a consistently reliable community, subs, and patreons situation of a certain size, so you don't have to suddenly switch gears in the middle of things when it dips. Once you get tot that point however, it's easier to maintain as you can consistently put out constant at a pretty nice pace. The hard part is just getting to that point of viability.
SuddenImpulse
2022-11-03 06:08:31 +0000 UTCI think it is a bit more complex than this, with respect. Youtube channels generally try to diversify their content and their community base, because the reality is that if they rely on a single type of show or single type of community demographic it makes long-term consistency and reliability for views, patreons, and subscribers very very dodgy and the youtube algorithm also doesn't like it, and unfortunately a few too many channels live and die by the finnicky youtube algorithm. Since their channel has been primarily live action, and a lot of the subs are specifically from The Boys and GoT, it is natural for a lot of the poll responses to be in favor of more of that type of content. I also think there was a further issue of the fact that they had "I have not heard of it" as the same poll option as "Not interested in Anime", so a fair few of those who voted for that second option may have been interested in anime but haven't heard of, or weren't interested in Chainsaw Man specifically, but they still got grouped in with that other answer. Any channel with longterm success goals generally wants to diversify content and audience, but it does takes time to build up that audience. So the audience for things like anime and regular animation shows is going to be smaller within the community until they actually put out reaction content for those demographics for awhile.

2022-11-03 06:02:46 +0000 UTCHunter x Hunter! One of the best anime of all time. People will watch your reactions to it. The brilliant writing of Hunter x Hunter expressed colorful emotions, amazing character building, and great fun watching the multitude of pure badass characters. It would draw in many GOT fans if they gave it a few episodes. Whatever anime you choose next make sure it has a massive following. I'll be watching!

2022-11-03 05:29:04 +0000 UTCI'm not into Anime personally but I've seen reaction channels thrive on that content. Maybe try anime on YouTube rather than Patreon. Either way good luck. #stannisthemannis

2022-11-03 03:59:23 +0000 UTCAll I’m saying is it sounds like people didn’t even give the dub reactions a chance. Unless the dub was known to be egregiously bad, then I would understand, but its whatever
Franky E
2022-11-03 03:33:12 +0000 UTCSorry I don’t mean that the show itself is carried by those things, I meant in terms of why reactions to the show are so popular. Maybe I speak for myself but I got into reaction channels because I saw so many compilations of reactions to what happens to Ned back in the day. And stuff like AOT, the episodes with the major reveals are usually the ones that attract the most views from what I’ve seen

2022-11-03 03:07:53 +0000 UTCWell, there’s a Mexican version of Breaking Bad, but I wouldn’t watch reactions to that despite being a massive fan of Breaking Bad. Because the actors’ performances really matter, IMO.

2022-11-03 03:02:37 +0000 UTCHey guys when you start your epic journey of ATLA, I can be one of the mods for it. I commented on your YouTube post as well, just let me know I would be glad to help out and prevent any spoilers.

2022-11-03 02:35:28 +0000 UTCYeah I don't think it relies on them that heavy at all, quite the opposite imo. People really enjoyed the politics part of the show.

2022-11-03 02:17:59 +0000 UTCYeah GoT is a very rare type of engagement show that has a lot of people still willing to watch first time reactions, especially you guys and the way yall think about events and break them down (plus how innocent you both are xD) thats what I'm sure 90% of people subscribed for is GoT/HoTD. A show like avatar is massive as well and very positively received, thats the only anime I can really think of that could bring in a fraction of the GoT crowd. Looking forward to episode 3 btw can't wait.

2022-11-03 02:16:11 +0000 UTCI think you guys should do what you like. Your enjoyment is more contagious of a show is better than pleasing everyone. 2022-11-03 01:42:01 +0000 UTCWhile I don’t watch anime personally, I think you would be able to measure the response a lot better on YouTube , than you would in the patreon group. You should post any new show immediately on YouTube to see the response

2022-11-03 01:33:05 +0000 UTCAgreed. The major thing about Game of Thrones is that a lot of it relies on shock value and “big events”, which is why its such a huge draw for reactions.
Franky E
2022-11-03 01:31:24 +0000 UTCI’m not going to argue dub vs sub because that’s fruitless. What I find strange is how that preference extends to whether or not someone will watch a reaction video of a dubbed anime. I mean, I’m watching the sub myself. But it doesn’t make a difference to me whether the reactor is watching the dub or sub, because I’m watching for the reactions and opinions to the episode and not for the actual episode lol. But like I said, to each their own.
Franky E
2022-11-03 01:28:30 +0000 UTCHey guys. Obviously you should do what's best for you and your channel. I would just say don't let Game of Thrones and HOTD skew skew what you think of as a successful show. Those two shows are extremely popular with a huge fan base. Most other shows won't be able to replicate that kind of response. What I'm trying to say is don't hold all shows to the bar of game of thrones.

2022-11-03 01:16:08 +0000 UTCI think that’s the sweet spot for reactors, when it becomes viable to hire an editor. Frees up lots and lots of time, and maybe even gives them time to react to another show, which expands the audience and brings in more cash, etc.

2022-11-03 00:57:39 +0000 UTCI'm not used to watch Anime but I'm on board with you guys for whatever you feel like watching. I joined for The Boys and stayed because of you both. Never watched Game of Thrones and it's been awesome to watch alongside you. Invincible is not exactly Anime but it's short in terms of episode length, so it must be the same time to edit as an anime. If you guys never watched it before I really recommend. Anyways, just watch stuff you both enjoy and I'm up for it.

2022-11-03 00:54:55 +0000 UTCCyberpunk edgerunners is big right now, and another anime I've seen getting a lot of traction on reaction channels lately is Bleach since the newest arc just started on hulu. Also dont listen to the sub purists out there, watch whatever version you prefer, its about what you guys enjoy.

2022-11-03 00:50:46 +0000 UTCWell, it’s like why would you want to watch a Japanese show with American voices? The incongruence of it, as well as the generally flat delivery of American voice actors, is incredibly off putting for a lot of people.

2022-11-03 00:46:36 +0000 UTCDamn sorry to hear that Chainsaw Man didn’t pan out. I actually find it wild that some people are commenting they would only watch reactions to subbed anime 😵💫 but to each their own.
Franky E
2022-11-03 00:45:28 +0000 UTCI would recommend doing some anime opening reactions or other 1 video anime things to bring the anime people in, and then move to shows once you’ve built that foundation.
milcasa21
2022-11-03 00:45:00 +0000 UTCChainsaw Man is a big anime and it was short. I think it hurts you more to cut a series off - might signal to people that you could drop any show that they’re subbed to you for if it’s not getting whatever level of engagement you’re looking for. Maybe you should have done Edgerunners. That’s really popular, is good, short, and it has a more acceptable English dub. I always think it’s best, when reactors are not getting the engagement they want, to either bear with it or cut your loses by just uploading uncut reactions to Patreon or something. Sure, it’ll still take time to do that and maybe not get the return you want, but it signals your commitment to follow through with a show. I think the other problem with anime is always going to be that if you react to dub it’s going to split your viewer base even further. Because a lot of people don’t like dub. And if you do Avatar which is a looooong show at like one a week, that takes up a whole slot for you for like, what a year? Maybe more? You might get the Avatar people sub, but otherwise it’ll just be GoT fans for a long time. Good luck with it all - lots of decisions!

2022-11-03 00:41:53 +0000 UTCOne million percent Demon Slayer! 🤘I'm stoked about seeing more anime on the channel. I just caught up with chainsaw man and enjoyed the reaction, but it's so new and without a huge fanbase so it makes perfect sense to look at moving on to a bigger anime if it's not doing well.

2022-11-03 00:40:16 +0000 UTCaww! i was looking forward to chainsaw man but i understand. the recent cyberpunk anime, edgerunners, seems to be picking up decent interest? 10 episodes, 20 mins each - maybe a decent idea? i reckon it’ll be a little rough no matter what show you pick until the audience diversifies a little more as a lot are just here for live action stuff! perseverance is key here i think, especially if it’s a short series. it all helps!
