Game of Thrones Histories & Lore Season 1

This has a bunch of spoilers, both in story details and actual scenes from GoT they haven't seen yet.

Thankfully the standard and time-tested recommendations for GOT reactors were basically settled years ago. I trust your moderators to steer you toward those as we go along.

There are some excellent videos on the lore and world by Alt Shift X on YouTube which might be worth reacting to. I highly recommend their 'East: the strangest places in Game of Thrones' video, but I would definitely have your mods/admins watch them beforehand to ensure there aren't any spoilers from the show as sometimes they make references to it. Enjoyed this reaction and looking forward to more GOTs reactions now HOTD season 1 has finished. :)

To answer the question at 15:00... Targaryen = a family name, Velaryon = another family name, Valyrian = a race of people (Targaryens and Velaryons are both Valyrian).

I've never seen this before so thanks for sharing. It was interesting and funny to hear different characters accounts of the same historical event, it really does a good job of showing their personalities and levels of morality.

Also, Oldtown, as mentioned in the lore vid is where the maesters main base, the citadel is. But it's also where the Hightowers, Alicent's family in HOTD, is from. That's the city they rule.

You guys did a pretty good job with this video. It is for sure a huge lore/info download, so DO NOT fret if you missed some things, or might have misinterpreted some minor details. I would argue some of those details are NOT that critical at this point in time, and the ones that are, will come up again as the seasons in the show progress, and I believe you will be better able to absorb them organically. I have just two notes (with much love, BTW): 1. I have heard you toy with this idea a few times, so I just want to clarify that the Night's Watch, the King's Guard and the Order of the Meisters are ALL sworn lifetime positions. Members must RENOUNCE their houses and their titles, and cannot take wives or father children. There is supposed to be no leeway with any of those rules. This is why Jon Snow is NOT ALLOWED to go fight with his brother Robb to avenge his father - he CANNOT just ask for permission or ask for leave! This is why Jaime Lannister CANNOT inherit Casterly Rock or produce any heirs - Jaime joining the King's Guard is the primary source of Tywin's anger with him. This is why Maester Aemon Targaryen COULD NOT go help his family during Robert's Rebellion, and also why he is not counted as a Targaryen in-line for the throne - I mean, besides him not wanting the crown when he actually had the choice. 2. Please, please, PLEASE, King Robert Baratheon should be referred to as Robert, or King Robert, or Bobby B. if you may, lol... Robb is Robb Stark! Anyways, keep up the good work. Loving your reactions.

Yep there is one for each season. They were on the extra on the DVD's and intended to be watched after each season, there are playlists with them on youtube. They are wonderfully done. There are not many reactions to this content, and a lot of people were asking for it, so they figured it would be good to kill two birds with one stone.

Not sure if anyones pointed this out but there is a couple of old white guys in the show so it can be confusing: Maester Luwin = the Maestor at Winterfell with Bran. Maester Aemon = the one at the wall with Jon. And then there’s Grand Maester Pycelle in kings landing who’s on the small council

The Valyrian houses that survived the doom are the Targaryens, and their two vassal houses Velaryons and Celtigars. HOTD has changed things a little bit by seperating the Velaryons and Targaryens and completely ommitting the Celtigars from the show.

IIRC, Maester Aemon (Targaryen) is the Mad King's uncle, at least in the show. Aemon's brother was another Aegon. That was cool, though. I didn't expect a reaction to this, and I actually hadn't seen it before. There were some things I knew and some I didn't, and it's all well presented. At times it really feels like a documentary.

Targaryens and Velaryons are both Valerians. The name "Valerian" is the name of the people. The name "Velaryon" is just the last name of one of the many Valerian families. That being said, the Velaryons survived with the Targaryens, but their families are so mixed with each other, they're more like one giant family.

Don’t know why nobody has helped them differentiate Velaryon from Valyrian yet cuz they’ve mistakenly take both as the same thing multiple times now. Those are 2 different terms. Valyrian refers to all people from Old Valyria which include House Velaryon (Corlys’ House) & House Targaryen.

One sad fact for you guys. But in the last lore video you guys watched, it talks about the ancestral sword of House Stark called Ice. It was Ned's and his family's sword for generations. That's the sword that was used to behead Ned. 😭

I think they are doing a great job absorbing the info. Pudgey seems like she’s all in on GOT. She’s eating this info up. I’ve never seen this video before. I wish I had when I started watching GOT back in the day. It fills in a lot of gaps.
