Emilia also didn't recognize her, which the anime showed. In novel, Subaru asks Roswaal about this, and Roswaal cryptically explains that the two Echidnas are completely separate people, and Roswaal is only interested in the "real life" one who is now dead. A big mistranslation in the subtitles is the line "If I lost anyone, I would not hesitate to reduce everything to ashes." The japanese actually says "If *you* lose anyone, I *will* destroy everything." Roswaal is saying literally that if any of Subaru's allies die, Roswaal will destroy everything to force Subaru to restart (the curse will kill Roswaal because of the vow he made, but doesn't matter to him since Subaru will restart). This way he can make sure that Subaru never gives up on the perfect route where everyone is saved, because without the book, Roswaal thinks that anything less than Subaru's best is not enough to win the royal selection.
