New Release: Flight of the Intrepid 1: Ambush

Something new that I've been gearing up toward for a bit now; each of you (the Advance Readers) are going to begin getting free copies of everything I launch as part of your rewards.

I haven't been launching as many books lately. A lot of stuff has been in flux, and I sold the "Accidental Necromancer" trilogy to a publisher. That trilogy will be coming to you as well, before Aethon publishes it publicly, but I wanted to test delivery on something short and simple first.

And here we are with "Flight of the Intrepid"! I originally wrote this novella back in 2021 as a fun challenge; I finished the novella in a week, sent it to a printer, and had copies to sell at an author convention a week later. It was fun, but I had no idea where the story was going to go yet, back then, so I let it languish.

Fast forward four years, and now I have an end target in mind for the tale, so I'm back to work on the story. It's had about 20% more words added, greatly fleshing out the original tale, and a good editing pass. Now it's coming to you as one of your Advance Reader benefits.

Here's what the story is about:

For fifty years, humanity has stood its ground against the Drechnai. Tyrants of the first order, these beings have wiped out over a dozen spacefaring races, and they've done everything in their power to make humanity the next.

But for those fifty years, humans have scraped out a desperate battle for survival, relying on determination, tenacity, and raw courage to overcome our foe's impossible technological advantage. Fifty years of constant war has honed our species into a deadly blade.

Without warning, the enemy sued for peace. But Captain George Oliver doesn't trust them at their word, believing that this is some new deceit. Despite his misgivings, Earth's fleet goes to sign a peace accord with the Drechnai.

It's a trap! The human ships are attacked, leaving Oliver's command the sole Star Carrier still intact and able to defend Earth against the strike he knows is coming.

He's not wrong. The Drechnai intend to finish humans off once and for all time, their master stroke dealing death blows to both the fleet and Earth itself. But they failed to factor in the men and women of the Star Carrier Intrepid, who will pay whatever price is required for the human race to survive!
