Last Human: Episode 6 (Devlog 8)

Hello everyone, yep, I'm alive LOL. Sorry for waiting so long to post the next devlog, just been so busy. I have a few interesting bits of news and then we'll get into how far along the LH update is and some idea of the release time frame.

In my previous devlog, I rambled on about getting a new computer. Well, decided not to do that because due to the shortage of memory, prices are skyrocketing on everything. Instead, I decided to try upgrading the one thing I needed the most - video card. I managed to find an RTX 3090 24gb for $800 bucks. And in the nick of time too because my existing RTX 2060 12gb died on me! I've been using onboard video for over a week now and I must say, doing graphics work on that has been a slow-moving slog. So bad that I just didn't try anymore. The new card is "out for delivery" today. If it comes in early enough, the plan is to take the tower out to my workshop, open it up and clean it up really good. I usually do a dust clean-up at least twice a year anyway. So it's the perfect time to clean out my fans and case filters, etc... then install the new card. I can't wait to see how or if things improve. It just so happens that a lot of the scenes I am working on currently have a lot of characters at once in them, with a lot of lights and filters... you just can't do those kinds of scenes comfortably with onboard video only. Much less any animation work.

Now on the release timeframe... I need to get this thing done before January 31st. You see, my wife and I are going on a cruise during the first week of February. And I wanted this to be done and out to you guys before that. And the plan was to come back from the cruise then jump right into the next Serenity update. That update is fully coded... just need to do the graphics/animations for it. I don't know how this will go to be honest... 2 weeks to finish up the LH update is going to be cutting it close. All I can do is try my hardest and just keep working until it's done. The release schedule for this update (when it is completed) will be extremely quick. So whatever tier you're on, expect to get access to the update pretty fast. Don't stress on joining higher tiers to get it faster... I am probably going to do a 2-release deal where higher tiers will get it the first day, the $2 tier will get it the next day, then out for free on the third day. It is the least I can do considering it has been pretty much a year since my last update release.

Worst case scenario... if I don't finish in time before my cruise... then it will probably be a Valentine's day release. I am trying hard to avoid that! The good thing about all this is that the next update for Serenity will basically be 2 months' work, then release (that is an educated guess). And subsequent updates for each game will be back to 2 to 3 months' work, then release. You won't be waiting a year for updates anymore. Over this year, we'll probably finish up Serenity chapter 2 and begin graphics work on Camilla, while still knocking out Last Human.

That's it for now my friends. I'm going to chill and wait for my new graphics card to arrive so that I can get this beast cleaned out and the new card installed, then finally get back to work. I was on a good roll too before my 2060 puked, dammit. But shit happens. Just have to take the punches and keep pushing forward. Thank you for the continued support! Love you all, ...Fire
