The TRUE END that you watched on episode 25 and the GOOD END adapted into this OVA special The GOOD END is obtainable in the game when you have enough Saber points. What i mean with this is that in the game, there is a system that is called brownie points that you obtain by picking certain choices. This brownie points allow you to either not get stuck in a BAD or DEATH ending and to get the proper endings of the story. And yeah. All endings are canon. being the TRUE ENDS, GOOD ENDS, NORMAL ENDS, BAD ENDS and DEATH ENDS. All of them are canon since FATE operates on multiverse theory. Think about it. There are 5 proper endings to the story and 40 BAD/DEAD ENDS. So, for all the things we say about shirou, he only has like a 10% chance of surviving the Grail war In the case of UBW, if you play normally and priorize Rin over Saber, then you get the TRUE ENDING. And the GOOD ENDING is when you balance between liking Rin and Saber Now, In-univese, since you have high compatibility with both of them, Rin naturally has more attachment with Saber which is why she decides to make that last effort and renew her pact with her. This of course puts Rin in a disadvantage as a mage, since Saber will basically eat up majority of her mana just by existing. Since there is no more Holy Grail, Rin has to maintain Saber without its support and thats a BIG effort. So, even with Shirou giving her a boost with mana transfers, it remains to be seen if she could reach her peak as a mage We can call that a reason as for why she did not renew her pact with her in the TRUE END. Not enough relationship progress And I completely understand why you feel its weird. True, as you say, its adorable and nice but it kinda does not fit with the whole series, right? And yeah, this ending was made more like fanservice precisely for the people who wished Saber to get some sort of happy ending. So, yeah THE AGAIN, the GOOD END kind lost its meaning when we received the GLORIOUS LAST EPISODE ENDING which ties the knot on Saber story in a great way and without feeling weird if you want to watch it and maybe react to it, i will leave you the link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLRDX9Y4D40
