Arches Build 8 - Permanence

You can never get it back…

Download links below

Final main storyline update for Arches. Editing was a bit rushed at the end, but I did what I could with the time I had. Hopefully nothing too distracting. Thank you everyone.

Also, take note of how much work Paintfox did. I’m so thankful for his being part of the team along with everyone else. Will write more on my thoughts about this VN after the fully finished release. To be clear, this is the end of the main story.

Arches Build 8 - Permanence

I love his eyes… he looks so innocent!

Paul (Chiron)

Ahh yes emotional whiplash my old friend. Thank you for this beautiful story about trauma and healing. I'll be thinking about this one till I'm 110... at least

I've been processing this ending for a few weeks, but I think I'm at a place where I can genuinely say I loved it. There's obviously some disturbing moments, but the violence and terror never feel like they're being delivered for shock value or something equally cheap. The contrast between those dark moments and the tender ones helps to make the latter have a stronger impact, and after Echo and Adastra, I realize that these emotional highs and lows are a big part of what makes Howly's stories have such a lasting impact. As with those other stories, the major characters here all feel like nuanced people with complex histories, relationships, flaws, and motivations. That, plus the stories themselves, make me want to think, and I love that about every finished Echo Project VN so far. I do kind of hope this isn't the last we see of Dev and Cam, but if it is, I think this was a fitting (if bittersweet) send off for them. In case not enough people are saying it, thanks to Howly, Paintfox, and everyone who worked on this. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

:) I loved playing it

Nelson Cabrera

Jesus Christ that was some Incredible writing and artistry but man, that was tough. Someone please check that Howly is ok and give him a hug (if he wants)

Harvest Mouse Productions

This depiction of a relationship throughout is so detailed and really resonated with me personally. Thank you.

Okami7

This was such a good ending although it made me think long and hard about it xD, thank you so much for the amazing experience

Treagir

Absolutely amazing. I'm relatively new to the visual novel scene and I can't believe I've been sleeping on it for years. But this story, man oh man. I loved echo, it was the first vn I got introduced to and this was such a beautiful wrap up. Terrifying some spots, but love how you guys have been able to make this universe. Thank you so much for creating this incredible work of fiction that touches on so many themes close to my heart.

Eth0s

Just binged Arches 0.7 and couldn't wait for the public release. Will be back tracking to Echo and The Smoke Room soon! Great content!

Joshua Bernholtz

Finally happy to read this. Been waiting for the conclusion. Brian was the cocaine bear we deserved.

Tazor

Played Adastra a while ago. Finished Echo last week. Soon to start Arches and didn't want to wait until the final build became public. I can't NOT support this group's writing at this point.

Lurkybot3k

Just finished the game today. Awesome work from you guys: it hits hard in a way many other stories just don't, and that's what makes these games of yours so enjoyable. Thank you for all you do, and we look forward to additional projects from you guys!!!

Padvaxtag

Hey!! The novel is linear, there are no choices involved in this one!

Paintfox

Holy shit where do I begin? Howly and Paintfox and the whole team outdid yourselves with this one. One of the most heartbreaking, beautiful, and bittersweet stories I’ve read in recent memory. Echo was scary but this was gut wrenching on a whole new level and hit really close to home. This was definitely worth the wait. Thank you for sharing your talents and creating amazing stories. I will remember this one for years to come and looking forward to whatever new horrors awaits us at Echo.

DarsolSaber

Another great emotional rollercoaster. Thank you.

Okami7

I think I've realized I must hate myself. Haha. I stopped partway through the story to watch some fun TV. I was going to wait until the following day, but I sat back down and finished it. I'm still thinking about the story today. It hit me a very different way than Adastra hit me, but it's still sitting in the back of my brain. Just thinking to myself how the story could have been diverted with just a few different choices. A happier ending for the couple, but I know you can't always have the Hollywood happy ending all the time.

SonOfDarkHelmet

the thought of experiencing this story in full for the first time in one day make's my emotions do backflips, that must have been rough!

Redvedev

Goddang you Echo Project, it's too early in the evening to be ugly sobbing. Thank you, Howly, and everyone who contributed to the making of this. I wasn't prepared for Brian being even more evil and terrifying in this run than previous but... yup, he was. Also a big shout out to Paintfox, able to depict characters with real charm and warmth, and also that *nightmare* rendition of Brian when he finally shows his true colours. Adding the pandemic in to the story in to the same timeframe was a neat touch too, because if that did time did anything, it made everyone's mental health so much more precarious, so it really adds to the final act.

Redvedev

This idea of "The Divide" at the part with the shotgun, and how to leads to the alternate Devon, was a little tough to comprehend, but I really like the extra layer of tragedy it adds to the ending, and how it fits together with the arches theme as a whole. I've truly loved this story, and this ending is a great way to cap it off. ❤️

dvb

I'm both excited and apprehensive. Thanks for the hard work on this!

Brathor Cyr

That was quite the ending. Couldn't help but feel I missed something every moment there was a time skip. Definitely lost me at Cam "in an urn" part. But after that things got better. It's a hard life to recovery, a very somber ending, not happy but peaceful. This was a perfect way to end it

LLVPandaSevron

so good. i was close to crying there at the end and that really doesn't happen to me often

White Lieger

Such an incredible ending for Arches, and probably the whole Echo saga... Really well written... Just so nice, wholesome but also incredibly sad at the same time.... Like some other have already written bevor, Howly the way how you are telling those stories is just amazing. Oh and it was definitely worth the wait,

Furrco

But let's be honest for a moment is there even any fvn that can compare to arches when it comes to the quality of writing (as well as the visuals thank you paint fox and kardamom). For real let's look at the facts, Burrows cleared. Remember the flowers cleared. Minotaur hotel cleared. Nerus every dating Sim ever icoe pervader bhtr 9:22 password nitw lookouts motherfucking cleared. Hell even tsr echo and adastra get cleared. You are currently undoubtedly and unequivocally the number one fvn writer of all time.

brunis nerus

Well played. Howly you outdid yourself with this one. This was one of the most if not the most poignant well written and complex ending you could ever write. Every word was utterly sincere and heartbreaking in its sincerity. You have outdone every single other fvn works ever published including your previous works. You can be proud of yourself gg.

brunis nerus

Holy moly! I'm not sure if you're supposed to go through the entire story in one day, but I'm emotionally spent. I held off & knew nothing about Arches, glad I waited. On a personal note, I have a homeless uncle who is bipolar & schizophrenic, he refuses to take any meds. This story hit me super hard. Thinking of the struggles he has but also realizing he could be a better man, even if it means dealing with crappy side effects. I feel he chose the easy path to run away from his problems, but I can't really judge him too much, I'm not in his shoes. I want him to be better, but maybe I'm being selfish in thinking I know best. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that your writing and care for the story really hit home. P.S. I hate "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" so much, he should have been locked up (or dead) a long time ago.

SonOfDarkHelmet

How can a story be so heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time? You guys have done such incredible work

Sonny Barlow

That really was an emotional rollercoaster; definitely worth the wait!

Wazu

Be calm.

Zhou Nim

Just finished the Win version. First time ever touching Arches, and I'm just wondering if the format is different from other Echo Project releases in that there were no choice options, or if I encountered some sort of glitch? I feel like I was able to see what would've normally been every route play out all at once in linear fashion.

G K

and im sad ;_;

Kael

is done

Kael

Kael

What a rollercoaster ride of an ending, i liked the how the different characters ended up after the events of the story. Definitely The best echo story so far.

Salty aussie

Good read

WerewolfSlash

I too have not started it yet. Just finished the updated Burrows story, so perfect timing for another VN!

SonOfDarkHelmet

I had the same issue with this and the last TSR build. I’m not sure what to do since it makes it get rid of the download immediately.

LionLicker25

this is almost word for word what i was gonna say, so i'll just say "same" haha

cаша

i knew i would probably cry, but goddamn i did not except to cry as much as i did (and still am, lol). this was awesome and absolutely devastating at the same time.

Bjarke Lillie
