Fait Accompli Snippet -Week 3-

Hey guys, I'm busy, busy, busy but I have a snippet for you and ooho, this seems pretty heavy! These sisters are part of a greater force called Aspects you'll learn about them and their role in the world as you play.

Three sisters stand before you. They are shrouded in black mist and gold lace, obscuring your ability to see their bare faces. Though you don’t recognize the sisters you know they are sisters and you know they are ancient. Why they’ve chosen to show themselves to you is beyond your comprehension.

“Come to us, child.” The First bides. She is the youngest though you’re not sure why.

“Sit with us, warm yourself at our fire.” The Second, the eldest, crooks a long finger at you and you step closer, reaching them and the cosmic fire burning at the center of their semi-circle.

“You are far from home. It is unknown to you now.” The First speaks again and reaches into the black mist making up her body, pulling out a bloodied skull. She tosses it to the fire, feeding it and sending the flames upward, taller than yourself. Birds emerge from the fire but they are misshapen and you suck in a breath at their monstrous forms. “A piteous thing has befallen you.”

“It has been decided since before you were born.” The Third finally speaks to you and your core chills. “You cannot change what has been cast of you.”

“You cannot change your fate.” The Second chimes in with a click of her tongue. “But you can influence it, perhaps soften its blow.”

You try to speak, to ask what’s going on but you’ve been robbed of your voice.

“It is watching you. You are a curiosity to The Endless and now it will watch you.” The First remarks giddily. “Pray you do not become its next victim.”

“We will help where we can.” The Third raises her deep, hallowed voice again. “As we are now charged with your care.”

“As was asked of us.” The Second says. “A duty and burden we agreed to.”

“The Elde of Roots commanded it so.” The three chant together, drawing staves and striking them against the ground.

The fire spreads then, consuming them its iridescent flames and their screams are inhuman. Fear strikes your heart and you step backward but the fire moves towards you, igniting each footprint you make. You soon hear the gentle lapping of waves and look behind you to see a vast body of water. It’s dark and you know it’s deep, something to be avoided but the fire isn’t giving up and you have no chance but to keep stepping backward.
