And if you believe Hans when he promised Theo "a Christmas miracle" to open the vault (and right before he miraculously encounter John) then you also have Christmas magic, another trope and another staple of a good 'ol Christmas movie.

What anyone (and everyone) has to agree about this movie, I think…..
….is that Hans Gruber is one of the most exceptional movie baddies.
I clocked Hella recognising him from ‘The Harry Potters’. She knows 👍🏻
“This is amazing, you’ve worked all this out by yourself?” 😂
(also Alan Rickman was a good friend of the legendary Rik Mayall, so that’s also a plus 👍🏻).
That bit in the bathroom (tell her… that she’s the best thing that happened to a bum like me!) is why I love this movie ❤️👊🏻

So Eyes Wide Shut had a Christmas music heavy score and had constant references to Christmas and took place at a Christmas party?
Edward Olson
2024-12-22 01:31:01 +0000 UTC
Why Die Hard IS a Christmas movie: 1) takes place at Christmas, at a Christmas party 2) story of a father trying to get back with family at Christmas time 3) Constant use of Christmas music 4) Constant reference to Christmas in dialogue.
People who say it isn't can't provide specific examples of what does make another film a Christmas movie that excludes Die Hard.
Edward Olson
2024-12-22 01:28:18 +0000 UTC
Regarding FBI Special Agent Johnson's reference to "just like Saigon": The average age of a U.S. soldier sent to Vietnam was just 19. The last flight out of Vietnam was April 30, 1975, when that actor was 24. So he definitely was old enough to have served as a helicopter gunner in Vietnam.
Edward Olson

finally had time to watch this reaction, you ladies never disappoint!, this is such a perfectly constructed movie, every little thing has a purpose and Bruce Willis gives the performance that turned him into a movie star, a different kind of action hero than was seen in the '80s, one that bleeds and sweats and is vulnerable, anyway yes please do the sequels, Die Hard 2, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Live Free or Die Hard are all worth watching, you can ignore A Good Day to Die Hard though, if you don't have time or don't want to watch all of them Die Hard with a Vengeance is the best sequel and the one you absolutely must watch, I might prefer it to the original.

1000% disagree with it just being average. It's actually terrible.
-Extremely lazy and contrived plot, even to the point of recycling exact word for word lines of dialogue from Live Free Or Die Hard.
-Worst, most generic action sequences in the entire franchise.
-Worst, most generic and forgettable villains in the entire franchise.
-Every performance based aspect that made John McClane such a great character in the four previous movies is gone. Granted, what we now know about Bruce Willis' health issues disproves the theory that he didn't care and was just doing the movie for a paycheck, but the damage was still done.
-Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney have zero chemistry together, making it the worst partnership of the entire franchise.
Even if the movie was just average, that's STILL bad by the quality standards of the franchise before that point. It's just a plain bad movie all around. If the four previous movies were all high class meals of varying good quality, A Good Day To Die Hard is stale and moldy bread served with room temperature water.

This movie was the birth of the everyday man action hero.
Before Die Hard, action heroes were mostly bigger than life guys like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Ladies, I have to respectfully disagree, Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, it's just shown on a few TV channels over and over again at Christmas time.
But that doesn't make the movie a real Christmas movie.😉
Die Hard 2 and 3 are definitely worth a reaction. Die Hard 4 is still very good, but the series is already starting to decline. Die Hard 5 is OK I think, but an unnecessary sequel.
My favorite is Die Hard 3. The interaction between Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson is awesome.
Another good Bruce Willis movie is R. E. D. (2010). It's a fun spy thriller.
Great reaction as always, ladies.💜

Ok so, there's 4 sequels:
Die Hard 2 is actually really good and unfairly dismissed or outright forgotten.
Die Hard With A Vengeance (Die Hard 3) is the clear second best of the franchise and comes the closest to being on par with the original.
Live Free Or Die Hard (Die Hard 4) is pretty good, but I don't hold it in high regard like a lot of other fans to the point where these people put it above Die Hard 2. If you're going to watch that one, make sure to watch the unrated version as the PG-13 theatrical cut is a hack job.
A Good Day To Die Hard (Die Hard 5) is absolute crap and such a poor note for the series to go out on (given Bruce Willis' retirement due to health issues). Avoid it.

The better part about Die Hard 2 is it's still Bruce playing John McClane. In the other sequels he's different Bruce Willis characters just using that same name. Otherwise, Die hard 3 is 2 thirds of a good movie before losing it.

I've never had a problem with one of them re-watching a film in order to be along for the ride of the others seeing it for the first time.

I think we can all agree on this fact first: Movie Munchies and Asian Angels are the best dressed and best looking reactors out there. :-)
Second, and more controversial, is the fact that Die Hard is a Christmas movie. This has been an ongoing debate since its release. IMO, yes it is. The central theme revolves around Xmas, and takes place on Xmas Eve. Xmas music plays in the background and is mentioned many times throughout the film. Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" plays whenever Hans is on scene and is the bad guy's theme. This song is usually played in many Xmas symphonic concerts. Finally, there were many Xmas decorations all around the set providing some visual clues.
Third, this was Alan Rickman's first movie role, and this is less controversial, he is one of the best film villains of all time! While there are some good villains in the movie world, Hans Gruber ranks among the best, if not the best! (IMO)
Thank you MM! Merry Xmas to all of you lovely ladies!

Die Hard 2 is great. If it weren't for Alan Rickman's performance in the first film the sequel would absolutely be my favorite of the lot. The third film is less good, after that it's better to pretend the rest of the follow-ups don't exist. The quality really falls off a cliff.
At the very least you should cover Die Hard 2. Thanks for all the great videos, Munchies, and a Merry Christmas to you!

John McClane would have just shot Mr. Potter.
John McTiernan, the director, really went on a run of great movies in the late 80's and 90's. Predator in 1987, Die Hard in 1988, The Hunt for Red October in 1990. Maybe only Stephen Speilberg has a better run of back to back movies. I don't know the full story, but his career got sidetracked by some legal troubles.
I'm glad you consider Die Hard a Christmas movie and you settled the debate once and for all time :)
