New video early access, "Terrible Button"

It's a teardown of that weird police doorbell thing I got from my real estate agent last year, the disappointing conformal coated 720p camera with a squishy button and a surprisingly large battery!

On youtube and diode zone,

Did a little work with similar PIRs in the past. I know why they had to assemble them that way. It's because there aren't any low power surface mount PIRs and only a few sources for them. So there's no hope of getting vendors to make a custom assembly. They had to add an assembly step to attach the PIR to the flex through an interposer. The more interesting thing to me is that they must have gotten massive RF desense between the wifi and the PIR (false triggering IR sensor) because they have a long flex. I wonder if they have filter caps on those interposer boards.

I saw the editing teasers on twitter, it's amazing how the final video feels smooth to watch and listen while being so full of info. (It's terrifyring that they decided to move video back and forth through amazon and kept doing it despite the probably huge server bill... this suggests a trade-off that doesn't sound great for the user).
